2 ABOUT THE RESIDENCY PROJECT Through a mini grant provided by the Los Rios Community College District the Sacramento City College Music Department was able to invite the award-winning singer, songwriter and international touring musician, Roem Baur for a 2017 Spring Semester residency here at Sac City. The semester-long residency included free workshops, lectures, performances for our community as well as rehearsal and performance collaborations with ensembles from our department. Mr. Baur s cross-genre background combined with his rich and diverse professional experience provided Sacramento City College a unique opportunity for student growth and development. Through his workings with our students we were able to inspire and educate individuals from both traditional and contemporary influences, students of both the performing and recording arts, and community members ranging from the amateur to professional levels. The Residency Project culminates with tonight s performance. Thank you to the Los Rios Community College District and the Brice and Barbara Harris Fund for the Fine & Performing Arts for the funding to make this project happen for our students. 4 OUR GUEST ARTIST Roem Baur is an award-winning singer and touring songwriter from San Francisco. From appearances on NBC s The Voice, the main stage at Super Bowl 50, official SXSW & CES conferences, and the International Youth Conference in Zimbabwe, Africa, he has garnered fans all over the world with his wild (Entertainment Weekly) stage show and ridiculous vocal range (rslblog.com). Classically-trained in Opera and Musical Theatre, he answered the call of rock n roll shortly after college and immediately began touring living rooms, cafes, and small clubs with a voice that seems to burn with fire (Examiner) before forming his band and releasing his first studio EP with GRAMMY nominated producer, Damien Lewis (Rihanna, Janelle Monae, Katy Perry). Baur s self-released single Maybe I Don t Need You landed his music on terrestrial radio and won the Road to TRI contest by Bob Weir (The Grateful Dead), which resulted in an invitation to record live videos in Weir s legendary TRI Studios. In June of 2016 he released his most personal work, Night Phases, that has been praised by music bloggers and critics as one of the best releases of the Summer.
