1 B.C. Registered Music Teachers Association Victoria Branch Summer Newsletter June 2013 bcrmtavictoria.webs.com Phone President s Message Many of you teach alone in private studios located in private residences. A feeling of isolation can become an accepted part of our teaching life. Take steps to help combat this feeling by getting involved in assisting some part of the association. It isn t necessary to take on a huge position, but you could follow the example of Lisa Guthrie who helped with the luncheon registration, and Susan Kadatz who took photos at the luncheon. Each of the executive members would like an assistant from time to time, and one way to help both yourself and your association is to be willing to donate some time whether it is collecting money at the door for a student concert, mailing membership lists, or sharing your knowledge with less experienced teachers in an informal setting. Take some time during the summer to think how you can increase your participation in the day-to-day workings of the Victoria Branch of the BCRMTA and enjoy contact with other teachers in return. Pat Williamson VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!! Would you be able to help on occasion? With concerts? With social events? With.? Please contact stellabarbon@shaw.ca to volunteer your time. 2 STUDENT CONCERTS Tatiana Harrison Our sixth and last student concert of the season, held on 1 June at Gordon Head United Church, was a successful one. Thirteen studios submitted their entries and 34 performers arrived on a sunny afternoon. The concert opened with the presentation of awards to four students for their support during the past season. These were: Evan Woo, Jasmine Zhang, Jenny Yu, and Nathan Salvador, who performed at least four times during the concert season. They were given their Participation Certificates, gift cards from Tom Lee Music, and boxes of chocolates provided by anonymous donors. These students are to be congratulated for their dedication to the concerts. Our president, Pat Williamson, presented the certificates and Tatiana Harrison assisted with gifts. A group photo was arranged and taken by Wendy Maggiora. Thank you to Mike Harrison for his kind preparations of the stage, greetings in the lobby, and indeed for making such wonderful programmes.
