18 Find out more about us at: Rehearsals - Wednesday Evenings - 8pm to 10pm All Saints Parish Centre, Church Road, Fleet Musical Director: Roy Rashbrook Répétiteur: Angelina Palmblad Hart Voices is a mixed voice choir based in Fleet, Hampshire, which achieves a high-standard of singing from a nonauditioned choir. We perform four concerts each year across three terms, running from September to July. Our programme varies from stunning major choral works to satisfying chamber music programmes and the occasional light programme of popular numbers! Singers come from Fleet and the surrounding area, as well as many of the outlying towns including Guildford and Basingstoke. Choir membership is currently around 55 voices, many of whom have sung with the choir for several years. The combined experience and enthusiasm of our members enables us to explore new musical horizons - both in repertoire and venue. We aim to broaden our experience, strive for quality and musicality in our performances and involve young singers wherever possible. Soloists are often drawn from the choir, although for more complex works we regularly invite professional singers to perform with us. Our collective enthusiasm for music makes us a very sociable choir and we also make an effort to have regular trips away: previous trips have included Hungary, Lithuania, Belgium, Llangollen (Wales), Barnstaple, Glasgow and Ayrshire. Most recently we performed at the Prague Spring Choral Meeting in April Soprano 1 Sylvia Beedie Eve Borsey Clare Downer Eszter Faulkner Elizabeth Flitcroft Mary Gibb Hilary Godbold Kirstie Hennessey Joan Kilby Katy Lethbridge Jackie Maw Lorraine Pickett Sharon Price Clare M Thomas Di Tilston Pam Whittle Soprano 2 Nessie Black Ann Bradford Alison De Winter Anne-Mary Hine Alex Lawrence Catherine Schlieben Jackie White Kate Wickenden Alto 1 Lin Cantlay Jane Desmidt Paula Godden Llinos Harris Catherine Morganti Polla Rashbrook Louise Shapley Fiona Smith Sally Stonard Liz Teo Alto 2 Anne Elcock Sue Huddie Liz Oliver Angela Richards Carolyn Smith Helen Smith Jenny Spencer Pat Vidler Sarah Walker Tenors Linda Hore Judith Layzell Deryck Martin Matt Watts Bill Wickenden Basses Richard Dexter Graham Gillies Mike Huddie Richard Joyce David Price Michael Soul Laurence Welch Fancy joining? We don t have a formal audition process but if you can sing in tune and read music and fancy making Wednesday night your choir night, then contact us at enquiries@hartvoices.org.uk or simply come along to our next rehearsal! Hart Voices (Charity No ) is affiliated to Making Music (the National Federation of Music Societies)
19 Find out more about us at: Rehearsals - Wednesday Evenings - 8pm to 10pm All Saints Parish Centre, Church Road, Fleet Musical Director: Roy Rashbrook Répétiteur: Angelina Palmblad What Choir Means to Me Choir Members tell us about how important being a part of the choir is to them. This month, we hear from Katy Lethbridge Choir Member: 4 years Voice Part: Soprano 1 Music has always been part of my life. I danced and played piano and violin when I was young and regularly went to classical concerts with my parents. I was inspired to sing by a brilliant choir mistress and performed in many school productions including Mozart s Requiem, The Happy Prince and, the highlight, as a frog in Britten s Noye s Fludde! We also competed at the Welsh Eisteddfod. I never lost the love of singing and dancing, but found it difficult to find the time when I started work and then had my family. However, it is an itch you just have to scratch and I went on to spend many a happy moment performing in amateur musical theatre and opera. But I always missed the challenge of classical choral singing and started looking for a good local choir to join. When I heard Hart Voices performing Mozart s Requiem, I knew this was the one! So I joined about 4 years ago and have never looked back. I love the challenge of the amazing choral works that we tackle Handel s Dixit Dominus in March 2018 was a particular highlight but I also love the fact that in our summer concerts we do lighter music and I can take trips down memory lane back to my musical theatre days. But for me the greatest thing about Hart Voices is the people. A friendlier and more welcoming bunch would be hard to find. Very supportive and all sharing a huge love of the music and singing. And no divas! The regular choir trips are a good way to get to know everyone and have great fun singing, laughing, seeing new places and maybe having the odd glass or two! The trip to the Prague Spring Choral Festival this year was immensely enjoyable and a couple of years ago I even got to return to the Welsh Eisteddfod. So amidst an incredibly busy work and family life, Wednesday night rehearsals are a little haven of relaxation and escape into a lovely musical world. If you want to sing, Hart Voices is the place to be! Katy Lethbridge July 2018
