3 Part I: Fr Charles Jurgensmeier, Master of Ceremonies Director of Music and Associate Professor of Music in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Loyola University Chicago. Soprano: Delia Surratt The California born Delia Surratt began her musical studies in Los Angeles where she obtained a B.A. in music from Immaculate Heart College. She received scholarships to sing at the Music Academy of the West in California and at the Tanglewood Music Festival in Massachusetts. She then moved to Italy where she received scholarships to do post-graduate studies at the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. Her singing career has brought her to sing in the major theatres and concert halls of Europe and Africa till this day, where she is engaged in singing symphonic and chamber music as well as operatic repertory. She is currently a Professor of Vocal Technique at the State Conservatory of Music S. Cecilia in Rome and the John Felice Rome Center Loyola University Chicago. Piano: Diana Schmück Described by the Chicago Sun-Times as one of the finest chamber pianists on the scene, playing with her ears as much as her gifted hands, pianist Diana Schmück has appeared in concert throughout the United States and Canada, in Europe and as far as the Philippines. She has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at Chicago s major venues, including Symphony Center, Ravinia, WFMT, and the Chicago Cultural Center. Diana is a founding member of the Orion Ensemble, heralded in the Sun-Times as one of Chicago s most adventuresome, polished chamber groups and praised by critics and listeners alike for its Cedille recording, Twilight of the Romantics: Chamber Music of Walter Rabl and Josef Labor.

5 Part II: Popular Songs of the 1930 s and 1940 s Beth Holmgren, Master of Ceremonies Professor of Slavic and Eurasian Studies and SES Department Chair at Duke University Soprano: Ewa Kowcz-Fair Thrilling audiences with her dramatic soprano, Ewa Kowcz- Fair is equally at home in oratorio singing, intimate recital programs and opera. Well known as an interpreter of Polish folk song and tradition, she regularly appears as a soloist with The Lira Ensemble of Chicago. She made her Orchestra Hall Chicago debut with Hanna s aria from Moniuszko s Straszny Dwor (The Haunted Manor) and was invited again to sing Halka s aria from Moniuszko s Halka. Ms. Kowcz- Fair is a graduate of the Krakow Academy of Music.
