3 School choirs met at the Festival di Primavera for 15 editions. The Festival is by now the most important Italian Festival dedicated to the school youth choirs and has for the last two years developed an international dimension. The Festival di Primavera (literally spring festival ) is a flagship initiative of Feniarco, the Italian federation of choirs, and is organised in collaboration with the Association of Choirs of Tuscany (Act) and in partnership with the European Choral Association Europa Cantat. Moreover, it is part of the Italian festival network Italiafestival, and of the European EFFE festivals network. The Festival takes place in Montecatini Terme, a nice city strategically located halfway between the charming Lucca and the beautiful Florence, close to the coastal town of Viareggio. In Montecatini, participants will sing for two long weekends: the first one, from 20 th to 22 nd April, with Primary and junior high schools choirs, children s choirs, and the second one, from 26 th to 29 th April, with High schools and youth choirs. The Festival focuses are training, sharing experiences and meeting new realities. The days in the festival will pass attending atelier with Italian and foreign choirs and participants, enjoying relaxing moments, concerts and having a lot of fun! Renown Italian and foreign lecturers will guarantee a high quality offer for the young participants and for their conductors. The themes of the atelier will cover a variety of musical genres, from classical to traditional, with exciting performances and a big involvement of singers and audience during the concerts. There will be 11 atelier for young singers plus one dedicated to adults, parents and accompanying persons (during the first week). What about the teachers? We thought about them as well! The mini Coro LAB for conductors, teachers and musicians will be back with lectures to increase your skills and competences and a Study Tour to follow closely the atelier. The Festival di Primavera s formula is in constant renewal. The innovations of the 2017 edition will be the connection with the National project Officina Corale del Futuro, a training initiative supported by the Italian Ministry of Social Policies that will involve young conductors and singers under 30 from all over Italy. During the second week of the Festival, 10 youth choirs representing each one Italian regions will be in Montecatini Terme for a common training that will end in a performance in the beautiful Florence with a special guest: the Coro Giovanile Italiano (national youth choir). Conductors, teachers and singers are all invited at the Festival di Primavera Feniarco, Act, the artistic coordinator of the event, Maestro Lorenzo Donati, and the collaborators await you in April for a singing choral spring!

A special day for curious and attentive parents, desirous to draw near the choral world and music, even if it is the first time!

7 coro LAB at Festival di Primavera From April 19 th to 22 nd 2017, the mini Coro LAB will be offered to conductors, teachers and musicians who want to improve the management and direction skills of a children s or youth choir. The project is organised in lectures to improve your skills and competences and a Study Tour to follow closely the atelier. 9 Atelier Misa a Buenos Aires / Misatango Lecturer: Virginia Bono (Argentina) The Misa a Buenos Aires, known also as Misatango, combines characteristic syncopated rhythms and the dissonant tango s harmonies with a contrapuntal choral writing and has a big variety of melodies, accosting in an original way the Argentinian tango musical style to the sacred text of the Latin mess. From Bach to Calipso Lecturer: Michael Gohl (Switzerland) Explore the soul of different musical cultures in the actor s shoes: the actor slides in the heart, in the corporal expression and speaks the language of the other characters with the maximum authenticity. From a little Bach s fugue, passing thought romantic music, exploring gospel and body percussion until an original Calypso from Venezuela. A woman in love Lecturer: Petra Grassi (Italy) Inspired by an evocative Barbara Streisand s song, a choral atelier for women only that will talk about love. One of the most promising Italian conductors will guide us in a route among different ages and styles united by a theme that engages millions of composers since ever.

10 Rent - measure life with love Lecturer: Paolo Zaltron and Isabella Astegiano (Italy) One of the greatest musical masterpiece, winner of the Pulitzer price, of four Tony Awards as best musical and best booklet, Rent is the rock version of the Puccini Bohème. A story of young people where all the strong contemporary themes meet. Italy s flavours Lecturer: Simone Faraoni (Italy) Voices from the coasts of Italy, rich of stories and cultures. A travel in a land that sings and has always sang. Songs that come from far away, but talk about us, songs that smell of sea, songs burned by the sun, from the Albanian communities in Molise to the Greek ones in Salento, from Naples to Maremma (Tuscany), from Sardinian dialect to the Friulan and beyond.

11 The Festival di Primavera 2017 will have a strong connection with the Officina Corale del Futuro, a National training project of social promotion that intend to create and consolidate at least 10 regional youth choirs lead by at Festival di Primavera conductors under 35. The regional youth choirs are an example for the other youth choirs in the same region, as flagships of quality, willingness and responsibility. Moreover, the project wants to consolidate the Coro Giovanile Italiano (national youth choir), an excellence in the National choral world, for the session, lead by Luigi Marzola and Carlo Pavese. From Monday 24 th to Wednesday 26 th April, the regional youth choirs and the Coro Giovanile Italiano will move to Montecatini Terme for an intensive session full of study and concerts that will end on Wednesday 26 th April at the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral in Florence. The musical programme will have exclusive commissioned pieces. All the young participants from the high schools of the Festival di Primavera will be at the concert in Florence. 12 Regulations of the festival Ateliers During the festival, every choir can attend one atelier only: due to organizational needs, one group can not be divided into two or more ateliers. When registering, each group will be asked to indicate two ateliers of its choice. The options are your suggestion for us but the final ateliers composition will be decided by the Artistic Director of the festival, maestro Lorenzo Donati, and the festival organization, based on several factors such as voices, choral experience, previous participation in the festival, group size, other. When the group arrives, each participant will receive a booklet with his atelier scores and will have to carefully keep it! In case of loss or damage of the scores, it will be possible to purchase a new copy at the festival secretariat. Concerts Thursday and Friday night, during the Choir to choir concert, every group will perform two songs from its repertoire (maximum length: 5 minutes total). On Saturday afternoon, all the participant choirs sing in the Gran Concerto di Primavera (Ateliers concert) where they perform the compositions learned in ateliers and, all choirs gathered, a piece together. In the concerts, musical pre-recorded accompaniment is not allowed and we kindly invite you to choose a repertoire from your own country. Only for high schools choirs: on Wednesday afternoon the groups will move to the beautiful Florence where the festival will offer a special event in the frame of the ministerial project Officina Corale del Futuro. The transfer will be by train and the cost of the ticket will have to be paid by the participants (more information about the costs of the train ticket will be available later, since the festival organization is negotiating with Trenitalia for a special choral deal ticket).

13 Accommodation Participants will be accommodated in Montecatini Terme, in 3-stars hotels (rooms with 2, 3 or 4 beds, private bathroom). Availability for single rooms (only on request) is limited and entails an additional charge of 20, per night per person. Almost every city in Italy has introduced the tourist tax : the participation fee does not include this tax, which must be paid directly to the hotel hosting you (you can find the tourist tax fees on the search keywords are Tributi-imposta di soggiorno). Applications This is a non-competitive festival. Application is open to school choirs (from primary to high school) and to choirs made up by children aged 6-13 and by young people aged 14-19, coming from all over Europe. There is no size limit for the composition of the choir. The online application form (available on the website), filled in by the representative of the choir, should be sent to Feniarco, not later than 31 st January Together with the application, the choir has to present the list of participants (divided in: choir members, conductor, accompanying people and eventually bus drivers). The application is only valid with the payment of the 50% of the total fee by bank transfer to Feniarco, Banca Prossima IBAN IT26T BIC/SWIFT BCITITMX The balance of the remaining payment must be paid in advance, before your arrival.

14 Participation fees The participation fees are the following: for primary and junior high schools is 130 per person, for the high schools is 180 per person. The contribution includes: full board accommodation from the lunch on the arrival day to the lunch on the departure day, study activities (atelier), study materials (scores), concerts, insurance, promo material of the event, logistic and organisational support. For every 25 participants, one participant is free (the 26 th person does not pay the fee). The fee applies to participants, conductors, musicians, all other accompanying people and bus drivers. The total and the free fee will be calculated on the overall number of participants. All transportation costs to reach or leave Montecatini Terme are at charge of every participating group, such as the bus entrance tax and the bus parking payments (you can find the fees on Any change in the number of participants, have to be communicated before the 31 th March Later changes will entail the total payment of the participation fee.
