1 WEDNESDAY LUNCHTIME CONCERTS St James Anglican Church 173 King St Sydney (Opposite Hyde Park Barracks) For more information visit or call JULY DECEMBER 2007 As Sydney s oldest church, St James is a place of soul-stirring worship, challenging preaching and fine music. We are a progressive community that welcomes all people regardless of age, race, sexual orientation or religion.
2 The Wednesday Lunchtime Concerts bring together organ and instrumental music as well as some fine singers. I hope you find the Lunchtime programme a good way to rest from the hectic pace of the week. - David Drury St James Church is an active parish within the Anglican Church of Australia. The church building is the oldest surviving ecclesiastical building in Sydney, designed by Francis Greenway, an architect who was transported to New South Wales for forgery. Construction was begun in 1819 and the building was consecrated in February Since then, it has been in continuous use for Christian worship. The parish currently has some four hundred parishioners who live throughout the wider metropolitan area. The Church is open daily. A tradition of fine church music has been continued to the present under a succession of talented organists and choirmasters.
