It does run warm so you need to place it somewhere that it can get air around it. I did find that the instruction for resetting the Passcodes for wifi with Macs was severely lacking. UPDATE: APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS LATER The SBG6580 has shown dismal performance as their are severe amount of buffering dropouts during streaming causing a disruption to the internet on my wifi devices such as the ipad mini and iphone. This happens whether they're 50' away or right in front of the device. Telephone assistance from the manufacturer is expensive

The representative informed me that I could pay $25 for a replacement unit, which would very likely suffer from the same issues. I decided to buy a replacement unit from a different manufacturer. The short summary: Don't buy anything made by Arris! This thing has incredibly lousy/weak wifi, or is just flaky. I thought I was "upgrading" from an older modem/router combo, only to find my wifi strength, range, and speed reduced considerably by this device.
