7 Chapter 2 GUI 2.1 Minimum system requirements Framework: Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Supported Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2008; Windows Vista; Windows XP Processor: 400 MHz Pentium processor or equivalent (Minimum); 1GHz Pentium processor or equivalent (Recommended) RAM: 96 MB (Minimum); 256 MB (Recommended) Hard Disk: Up to 500 MB of available space may be required CD or DVD Drive: required for the installation of the GUI Display: 800 x 600, 256 colours (Minimum); 1024 x 768 high colour, 32-bit (Recommended) 6

8 2.2 Setup Insert the CD-ROM into your computer and go to: Digital Modular Headend GUI setup/gui setup v.xx.xx.xx/setup Johansson DMH Figure 2.1: Location of the GUI setup file If a security alert dialog box appears, press on RUN Follow the setup wizard Once the installation completed, run the DMH program from your desktop: Figure 2.2: Desktop icon 7

9 After startup of the GUI, you should see the login screen: Figure 2.3: Login screen Choose the mode: USER mode: Available functions: CONFIGURATION, HELP, LOGOUT, ABOUT and EXIT. No password is required to enter this mode. SERVICE mode: The SERVICE mode gives access to all functions. USERNAME: SERVICE PASSWORD: admin 8

11 Chapter 3 System setup In this chapter, we will install and configure the modules. This can be divided into 3 steps: 1. Installation of the modules: In this step the GUI gives a USB-address to the modules. 2. Setup of the modules: Configuration of the LNB, multiplexes, extra module options. 3. Configuration of the streams: Configure the programs to be distributed. 3.1 Installation of the modules Go to the INSTALLATION menu. You get a rack overview (Figure 3.1), but all slots appear as empty. Figure 3.1: Installation of the modules: empty rack 10

12 Click on INSTALL to start the installation. Your screen should look like Figure 3.2. The GUI is now ready to install all the modules. 13 Start with the first module (left side of the rack), and be sure all other modules are disconnected from the PC! Press PROGRAM and wait for the installation to finish. Figure 3.4: Installation of the modules: finish the installation If more than one modules are installed in the rack, connect the next module, and again press PROGRAM. Repeat this step untill all modules are programmed. Press FINISH Press OK 12

14 Now, all the installed modules appear in green (Figure 3.5). Inside the green boxes, the temperature of the modules is shown. Figure 3.5: Installation of the modules: all modules installed Notes: Figure 3.5 gives an overview of the complete system. After the installation, an USB hub may be used to control all modules at once. Be sure you connect the USB hub AFTER the installation! If the modules don t appear as green right after installing them, please wait a moment until all modules are reinitiated. 13

15 3.2 Setup of the modules In this step, we will configure the inputs (LNB/AV settings) and outputs (MUX settings) of the modules. Go to the SETTINGS menu. You get an overview of the installed modules (Figure 3.6). Click the module to setup. VOLTAGE: 13V/18V TONE: 22 khz ON/OFF DiSEqC: A/B/C/D Ext. Voltage: Add 1 V (compensation for long coaxial cables) Configure the used inputs and press on APPLY to save the settings. Press PRESET to reset all fields. 15

17 Go to the DVB-T tab page to configure the multiplexes (Figure 3.8). Figure 3.8: Setup of the modules: DVB-T output settings FREQUENCY: Center frequency of the DVB-T channel. The output can be configured in the VHF and UHF bands (47 MHz MHz). GAIN: Define the output level in the range -40 dbm to -25 dbm (68 dbµv to 83 dbµv). CONSTELLATION: QPSK/16-QAM/64-QAM CODE RATE: 1/2, 2/3, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8 GUARD INTERVAL: 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, 1/32 STATE: ON/OFF BANDWIDTH: 6/7/8 MHz SPECTRAL INVERSION: ON/OFF Press APPLY to save the settings. Press PRESET to reset all fields. Notes: - Only the frequency of the first MUX can be set. The frequency of the other muxes is automatically set. All muxes are adjacent, so the center frequency of MUX 2 is that of MUX MHz (8 MHz is the bandwidth of 1 MUX). - If more more than one module is used, make sure the frequencies of the different modules don t overlap! 16

18 Go to the MPEG tab page. programs. This ensures the channels are adjacent and don t overlap. If wanted, the fields can be changed: TSID: Transport Stream IDentifier LCN: Logical Channel Number CAS Forwarding: Forward the Control Access System tables (CAT, EMM, ECM) to descramble the programs with a set-top box. CAT: Conditional Access Table EMM: Entitlement Management Message ECM: Entitlement Control Message Press APPLY to save the settings. Press PRESET to change the settings back to default. 17

22 3.3 Configuration of the streams In the previous steps, we configured the modules. Now we are ready to configure the streams. This means we will set the appropriate settings for the tuners and choose the programs to stream. Go to the CONFIGURATION menu and choose the module to configure. The names in this list are configured in the previous section (Setup of the modules). Frequency: Select the frequency of the transponder. Symbol rate: Select the symbol rate of the transponder (20000/22000/27500 kbaud). 22

24 Press APPLY to save the settings. When the correct settings are entered, the Tuner Unlocked icon will change from red to green, indicating the tuner is now locked. The programs in this transponder now appear in the list. 25 Select the MUX to be configured. Drag and drop the programs in the desired MUX. Figure 3.16: Configuration of the modules: drag and drop the programs The programs that are streamed will be highlited in green. If you check the CAM field next to a stream, this stream will pass trough the CAM module. If the stream is scrambled, the icon appears. icon appears next to it. If the stream is descrambled, the To stop the streaming of a certain program, click OFF, next to that program. The program will stay in the list, but will not be highlighted in green anymore. To remove a program from the list, press on the clear button next to it:. Notes: - Depending on the bandwith of the chosen streams, you can select up to 8 streams per MUX. Some streams use a lot of bandwidth and reduce this number... - You cannot drag and drop 2 times the same program. - T1, T2, T3, T4 before the name of the streams indicates the number of the chosen tuner. 24

26 The number of programs depend on the bandwidth of the chosen streams. The total bandwidth of the streams is shown in the Output Bitrate bar graph. When the bar is green, other streams can still be added (up to 8). When the bar is orange, we are on the limit of a bitrate overflow: Figure 3.17: Output bitrate on the limit of overflow. SOURCE NAME: Name of the AV-source (name is given in the setup). STREAMING: Click YES to enable the streaming of the AV-source. The output bitrate is shown, but will normally not exceed 28 Mbps. 26

28 Chapter 4 Extra functionalities 4.1 Save configuration The settings and configuration can be saved. This allows for easy reproduction in other headends with the same configuration. It s also very convenient after a module upgrade. Go to the CONFIGURATION menu and select the module. Press the appears, where you can choose the file location. icon. 29 4.2 Restore configuration Saving the configuration saves both the settings and the configuration. The restore on the other hand is not common. Go to the SETTINGS menu and click on the icon. Browse to the location of the saved.xml-file and open it. Figure 4.2: Restore the settings. This only restores the SETTINGS of the module. To restore the configuration, go to the CONFIGURATION menu and repeat the same procedure. 4.3 Reset To reset the configuration, press the icon. A popup appears, asking if you want to clear the configuration. Press Yes to proceed. Figure 4.3: Clear the configuration. 28

30 4.4 Alarm monitor The alarm monitor logs the alarms of the modules in the rack. When a module is in alarm (red LED on the front of the module blinks), go to the ALARM MONITOR menu. Figure 4.4: Alarm monitor. Choose the rack and module and click VIEW. A list with the alarms appears on the screen. Save the alarm logs as a.txt-file. Print the list of alarms. Clear the list of alarms. 29

31 4.5 Upgrade The version of the GUI must be compatible with the version of the modules. Upgrade of the modules is thus accompanied with a GUI upgrade on the PC. The latest release of the GUI can be found on the Johansson website: software.html Log in with your username and password and download the latest Digital Modular Headend software. Use a decompression application (like WinRar) to unzip the folder and install the software. Previous versions may be overwritten. Open the DMH software and log in using the service account. Navigate to the UPGRADE menu. Figure 4.5: Upgrade process. 30

32 Select the rack and the module to upgrade and click on UPGRADE DEVICE. A popup will appear asking if you want to restore the settings after the upgrade. The Upgrade process will start and you will be notified if the upgrade was successful (Figure 4.6). Figure 4.6: Upgrade process completed. Note that the program will automatically select the correct upgrade file for the module. If wanted, you can select a different upgrade file Other menu items About: The ABOUT menu indicates the version of the software. Help: The HELP menu reconnects you to the website for help. Logout: Return to the login page. Exit: Logout and exit the application. 31
