3 IMPORTANT INFORMATION If a television is not positioned in a sufficiently stable location, it can be potentially hazardous due to falling. Many injuries, particularly to children, can be avoided by taking simple precautions such as:! Using cabinets or stands recommended by the manufacturer of the television.! Only using furniture that can safely support the television.! Ensuring the television is not overhanging the edge of the supporting furniture.! Not placing the television on tall furniture (for example, cupboards or bookcases) without anchoring both the furniture and the television to a suitable support.! Not standing the televisions on cloth or other materials placed between the television and supporting furniture.! Educating children about the dangers of climbing on furniture to reach the television or its controls. Warning: To prevent the spread of fire, keep candles or other open flames away from this product at all times. 1

4 Important Safety Precautions Electrical energy can perform many useful functions, but it can also cause personal injuries and property damage if improperly handled. This product has been engineered and manufactured with the highest priority on safety. But IMPROPER USE CAN RESULT IN POTENTIAL ELECTRICAL SHOCK OR FIRE HAZARD. In order to prevent potential danger, please observe the following instructions when installing, operating and cleaning the product. To ensure your safety and prolong the service life of your TV product, please read the following precautions carefully before using the product. 1. Read these instructions---all operating instructions must be read and understood before the product is operated.. Keep these instructions---these safety and operating instructions must be kept in a safe place for future reference.. Heed all warnings---all warnings on the product and in the instructions must be observed closely. 4. Follow all instructions---all operating instructions must be followed. 5.Attachments---Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer. Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer. Use of improper attachments can result in accidents. 6. Power source---this product is intended to be supplied by a listed power supply indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your product dealer or local power company. For added protection for this product during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the cable system. 7.Power cord protection---protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus. NOTE: where the mains plug or an appliance coupler is used as the disconnect device, the disconnect device shall remain readily operable. 8.Overloading---Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or convenience receptacles on other equipment as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock. 9.Entering of objects and liquids---never insert an object into the product through vents or openings. High voltages are present in the product, and inserting an object can cause electric shock and/or short internal parts. For the same reason, do not spill water or liquid on the product. 10. Servicing---Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped. 11.Damage requiring service---if any of the following conditions occurs, unplug the power cord from the AC outlet, and request a qualified service person to perform repairs. a. When the power cord or plug is damaged. b. When a liquid is spilled on the product or when objects have fallen into the product. c. When the product has been exposed to rain or water. d. When the product does not operate properly as described in the operating instructions. Do not touch the controls other than those described in the operating instructions. Improper adjustment of controls not described in the instructions can cause damage, which often requires extensive adjustment work by a qualified technician. e. If the product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged in any way. f. When the product displays an abnormal condition or exhibits a distinct change in performance. Any noticeable abnormality in the product indicates that the product needs servicing. 1. Replacement parts---in case the product needs replacement parts, make sure that the service person uses replacement parts specified by the manufacturer, or those with the same characteristics and performance as the original parts. Use of unauthorized parts can result in fire, electric shock and/or other danger. 1. Safety checks---upon completion of service or repair work, request the service technician to perform safety checks to ensure that the product is in proper operating condition. 14. Wall or ceiling mounting---when mounting the product on a wall or ceiling, be sure to install the product according to the method recommended by the manufacturer. This is a safety feature.

5 Important Safety Precautions (Continued) 15. Stand---Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. Do not place the product on an unstable trolley, stand, tripod or table. Placing the product on an unstable base can cause the product to fall, resulting in serious personal injuries as well as damage to the product. When mounting the product on a wall, be sure to follow the manufacturer s instructions. Use only the mounting hardware recommended by the manufacturer. 16.Careful move---when a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over. Sudden stops, excessive force and uneven floor surfaces can cause the product to fall from the trolley. Never attempt to move the TV unless the AC power cord has been disconnected. 17. Lightning---Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time. For added protection for this television equipment during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna. This will prevent damage to the equipment due to lightning and power-line surges. 18. Do not use this apparatus near water---for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, or laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool, and the like. The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and that no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the apparatus. Do not use immediately after moving from a low temperature to high temperature environment, as this causes condensation, which may result in fire, electric shock, or other hazards. 19. Clean only with dry cloth---unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning. 0. Ventilation---Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer instructions. The vents and other openings in the cabinet are designed for ventilation. Do not cover or block these vents and openings since insufficient ventilation can cause overheating and/or shorten the life of the product. Do not place the product on a bed, sofa, rug or other similar surface, since they can block ventilation openings. This product is not designed for built-in installation; do not place the product in an enclosed place such as a bookcase or rack, unless proper ventilation is provided or the manufacturer s instructions are followed. 1.Heat sources---do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat..panel protection---the display panel used in this product is made of glass. Therefore, it can break when the product is dropped or impacted upon by other objects. Be careful not to be injured by broken glass pieces in case the display panel breaks..pixel defect---the display panel is a very high technology product, giving you finely detailed pictures. Occasionally, a few non-active pixels may appear on the screen as a fixed point of blue, green or red. Please note that this does not affect the performance of your product. WARNING: For continued safety, apparatus with class I construction shall be connected to a mains socket outlet with a protective earthing connection.

6 Important Notice About Temperature Do not use in hot and cold rooms (locations)! When the unit is used in rooms (locations) with low temperature, the picture may leave trails or appear slightly delayed. This is not a malfunction, and the unit will recover when the temperature returns to normal.! Do not leave the unit in a hot or cold location. Also, do not leave the unit in a location exposed to direct sunlight or near a heater, as this may cause the cabinet to deform and the screen to malfunction.! Storage temperature: 0 C to 50 C! Working temperature: 5 C to 40 C About After-Image The extended use of fixed image program material can cause a permanent afterimage on the screen. This background image is viewable on normal programs in the form of a stationary fixed image. This type of irreversible screen deterioration can be limited by observing the following steps: A. Reduce the brightness/contrast setting to a minimum viewing level. B. Do not display the fixed image for extended periods of time. C. Turn the power off when not in actual use. Important Information Regarding Use of Video Games, Computers, Captions or Other Fixed Image Displays.! Do not allow a still picture to be displayed for an extended period, as this can cause a permanent after-image to remain on the screen. Examples of still pictures include logos, video games, computer images, teletext and images displayed in 4: mode. CAUTIONS:! The permanent after-image on the screen resulting from fixed image use is not an operating defect and as such is not covered by the warranty.! This product is not designed to display fixed images for extended periods of time. Cleaning and Maintenance To clean this unit, wipe with a soft, dry cloth. If the surfaces are extremely dirty, use a soft cloth dipped in a soap and water solution or a weak detergent solution.!!! Use eyeglass cleaner to remove stubborn dirt from the screen. Never use alcohol, paint thinner or benzine to clean this unit. Before using a chemically treated cloth, read the instructions that came with the cloth carefully. 4

7 INPUT MENU CH VOL Identification of Controls Main Unit (front view) 1 INPUT MENU CH VOL Note: Buttons on the TV control panel are touch buttons. First touch of the button will illuminate it. Second touch will fulfill its function. Be sure button presses must be quickly done before the illumination disappears and it is suggested to touch the sensor center, otherwise the operation may not fulfill successfully. 1. Remote sensor Receives signals from the remote control. Do not block.. Power indicator Lights blue when in operating mode. Lights red when in standby mode.. POWER Press this button to turn the unit ON from STANDBY mode. Press it again to turn the set back to STANDBY. 4. INPUT To access Input menu 5. MENU Press this button to access the main menu screen. ^ 6. CH ^/ Press these two buttons to directly change the TV channel; In menu operations, these buttons serve as up/down buttons. 7. VOL+ / Press the VOL+ or VOL button to directly increase or decrease the sound volume level; In menu operations, these buttons serve as right/left buttons. Main Unit (back view) 1. USB port: Connect a USB device to this port. USB SCART 1. Headphone: Connect headphones to this jack.. SCART: Connect a device with SCART connector to this socket. 4. HDMI: Connect an HDMI device to this jack. 5. PC IN VGA/AUDIO: Connect a computer to these jacks. 6. RS-: For service only. 8 Identification of Controls (Continued) Remote control unit POWER : Switches the TV power on or Standby. : ZOOM: Selects the picture aspect ratio.. INPUT: Displays Input menu. 4. COMP: Press to switch to COMPONENT mode. 5. VGA: Press to switch to VGA mode number buttons: Press to enter channel numbers. 7. : Returns to the previous channel. 8. DISPLAY: Displays the current program information. 9. 5/6//4/ENTER: Menu navigation buttons. 5/6(CH+/CH-): Changes channel up and down./press to move up or down in the menu. /4(VOL-/VOL+): Decreases or increases the volume./press to move left or right or to adjust a setting in the menu. ENTER: Press to confirm a selection and/or enter into a sub-menu. 10. MENU: Displays the main menu screen. 11. SLEEP: Sets the sleep timer. 1. FAVORITE: Press to browse among favorite programs you set up. 1. Teletext: Used to call teletext or exit. (Teletext) 14. Index: Displays teletext index page. (Teletext) 15. Hold: To stop or resume sub-page acquisition. (Teletext) 16. Update: Press to update teletext. (Teletext) 17. HDMI: Press to switch to HDMI mode. 18. AUTO/STEREO: Selects Stereo or Mono. In VGA mode, press to automatically adjust PC image settings. 19. TV: Press to switch to TV mode. 0. VIDEO: Press repeatedly to cycle between SCART/SVIDEO inputs. 1. FREEZE: To freeze the current picture.. MUTE: Press to mute the sound. Press again to restore.. EXIT: Exits the menu screen. 4. PICTURE: Selects picture mode. 5. SOUND: Selects sound mode. 6. Size: Press this button several times to display the upper, then the lower part of the screen and then return to the normal size teletext page. (Teletext) 7. Sub-page: Displays teletext sub-page if available. (Teletext) 8. Mix: Press the button to display the Teletext on the screen with transparent background while viewing the TV program simultaneously. (Teletext) 9. Reveal: To reveal or hide the concealed information. (Teletext) 0. Coloured buttons/usb control buttons! Coloured buttons(red/green/yellow/blue): Direct access to the coloured items or corresponding pages. (Teletext)! USB: Press to switch to USB mode : Play/Pause button : Rotate button : Zoom button 6

9 Setting Up Selecting a location You should select a location for the TV: Where direct light does not reflect on the screen. That has indirect and soft lighting. Where the TV has access to an antenna or cable TV connection. Where the TV has access to a power outlet. Note: Watching TV in total darkness or with a reflection on the screen may cause eyestrain. Installing remote control Batteries To install remote control batteries: 1 Open the battery cover. Insert two AAA batteries into the battery compartment. Make sure that the + and symbols on the batteries match the + and symbols in the battery compartment. Replace the cover. Battery precautions: Improper use of batteries can result in a leakage of chemicals and/or explosion. Be sure to follow the instructions below. Place batteries with their terminals corresponding to the (+) and ( ) indications. Different types of batteries have different characteristics. Do not mix batteries of different types. Do not mix old and new batteries. Mixing old and new batteries can shorten the life of new batteries and/or cause old batteries to leak chemicals. Remove batteries as soon as they are non-operable. Chemicals that leak from batteries can cause a rash. If chemical leakage is found, wipe with a cloth. Dispose of batteries in a proper manner. If the remote control is not used for an extended period of time, remove the batteries. The batteries shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like. Aiming the remote control Use the remote control by pointing it towards the remote sensor on the front of your TV. Objects between the remote control and the remote sensor may prevent proper operation m Cautions regarding use of remote control Do not expose the remote control to shock. In addition, do not expose the remote control to liquids, and do not place in an area with high humidity. Do not install or place the remote control under direct sunlight. The heat may cause deformation of the unit. The remote control may not work properly if the remote sensor window of the main unit is under direct sunlight or strong lighting. In such a case, change the angle of the lighting or the TV set, or operate the remote control closer to the remote sensor window. 7

10 Cautions Before Connecting Connections =When connecting an external device to the TV, make sure that the TV and the device are turned off. =Check the plugs on the ends of cables to make sure that they are the correct type before you try plugging them into jacks on the TV. =Make sure that all plugs are securely inserted into the jacks. Loose connections can result in image or color problems. =The illustration of the external device may be different depending on your model. =Refer to the operating manual of the external device as well. Antenna Connection Connect one end of your antenna cable to the RF jack on the back of the TV, then connect the other end of the cable to the antenna wall jack. RS- S-VIDEO VIDEO L AUDI O R AV OUT Y C b/pb C r/pr AUDI O 75-ohm coaxial cable (round cable) Note: =It is recommended that the 75-ohm coaxial cable be used to eliminate interference and noise which may occur due to radio wave conditions. =The antenna cable should not be bundled with the power cord and the like. =If the antenna is not installed properly, contact your dealer for assistance. Power Connection Connect the power cable to the AC IN socket on the back of the TV, then connect the other end to a power outlet. Household power outlet AC cord Note: =This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. =Always unplug the AC cord from power outlet when not using for a long period of time. =This illustration is for reference only. The AC plug may be different on different models. 8

11 Connections(Continued) Connecting Headphones TV Side USB To connect headphones: Insert the plug of the headphone into the TV s Headphone jack. When using headphones, adjust the headphone volume so as to avoid excessive levels, as hearing damage may result. Headphones SCART Connecting a USB device Insert your USB device into the USB port. TV Side To play from the USB device: USB 1. Turn on your TV, then press INPUT button. The Input menu opens. To USB port. Press 5or6to select USB, then press ENTER to confirm. SCART Note: You can also press USB button on the remote control for USB. Never remove the USB device or turn off the TV while using the USB device. Connecting an HDMI device AUDIO VGA HDMI PC IN TV REAR How to connect an HDMI device: Connect the HDMI cable between the HDMI jack on the TV and HDMI output jack on the device. Note: If your device has an HDMI connection, we recommend you use that to get the best quality possible. HDMI cable HDMI device To play from the HDMI device: 1. Turn on your TV, then press INPUT button. The Input menu opens.. Press 5or6to select HDMI, then press ENTER to confirm. Note: You can also press HDMI button for HDMI.. Turn on the HDMI device and set it to the correct mode. Refer to the instructions that came with the HDMI device. If the external device has DVI output only, use a DVI to HDMI adapter cable to connect to the HDMI terminal. Connect the audio cable to the PC IN AUDIO jack on the TV rear. 9

12 Connections(Continued) Connecting a component video device RS- S-VIDEO VIDEO L AUDI O R AV OUT Y C b/pb C r/pr AUDI O TV REAR To connect a component video device: Connect the Component Video cable between the Y, Cb/Pb, Cr/Pr input jacks on the TV and Y, Pb, Pr(or Y, Cb, Cr) output jacks on the device. Connect the Audio cable between the AUDIO input jacks on the TV and AUDIO output jacks on the device. To play from the component video device: Component video device 1. Turn on your TV, then press INPUT button. The Input menu opens.. Press 5or6to select COMPONENT, then press ENTER to confirm. Note: You can also press COMP to select directly.. Turn on your external device and set it to the correct Audio cable Component mode. See the device s user guide for more video cable information. Component cables often have red, green, and blue color-coded video connectors and red and white audio connectors. Match the colors when making connections. Connecting a computer AUDIO VGA HDMI PC IN TV REAR To connect a computer: Connect a VGA cable between the VGA jack on the computer and the VGA input jack on the unit. Connect an Audio cable between the AUDIO output on the computer and AUDIO input jack on the unit. D-Sub cable (analog RGB) Audio cable (stereo mini plugs) To monitor port (15-pin D-Sub) To audio output jack To play video from the computer: 1. Turn on your TV, then press INPUT button. The Input menu opens.. Press 5or 6to select VGA, then press ENTER to confirm. Note: You can also press VGA button for VGA.. Turn on your computer, and adjust the display properties as required. Connecting a VCR RS- S-VIDEO VIDEO L AUDI O R AV OUT Y C b/pb C r/pr AUDI O To connect a VCR: Connect the Audio/S-Video cables between the Audio (L/R)/S-Video jacks on the TV and VCR. S-Video cable VCR S-VIDEO Audio cable TV REAR Cables are often colorcoded to connectors. Connect yellow to yellow, red to red, white to white. To play the VCR: 1. Turn on your TV, then press INPUT button. The Input menu opens.. Press 5or6to select SVIDEO, then press ENTER to confirm. Note: You can also press VIDEO button one or twice to select SVIDEO.. Turn on your VCR, insert a videotape and press the Play button. Note: The S-VIDEO jack shares the audio jacks with the COMPONENT IN jacks. 10

13 Connections(Continued) Connecting device with 1-pin Scart TV Side This TV has a 1-pin SCART socket located at the side of the set. The SCART socket has only audio and video inputs. USB SCART To connect device with 1-pin Scart: Connect the SCART Cable between the TV and external device through the 1-pin SCART socket. To connect to external device with AV terminals, you may use 1- pin Scart Converter to connect to SCART socket. SCART cable To select connected device: 1. Turn on your TV, then press INPUT button. The Input menu opens.. Press 5or6to select SCART, then press ENTER to confirm. Note: You can also press VIDEO button one or twice to select SCART. Decoder, etc. Connecting a VCR for video recording TV REAR RS- S-VIDEO VIDEO L AUDI O R AV OUT Y C b/pb C r/pr AUDI O To connect a VCR to record program s video Connect an AV cable to the AUDIO/VIDEO OUT jacks on the back of your TV and to the AUDIO/VIDEO IN jacks on the back of the VCR. VCR for recording To record a program s video: 1. Turn on your TV, then select the program you want to record.. Turn on your VCR, then insert a videotape.. Press RECORD on your VCR to start the recording. Note: Only TV and AV program s video can be recorded. S-VIDEO AV cable 11

14 Turning the TV on or off Basic Operations To turn the TV on or off: 1 Plug the power cord into an AC power outlet, press POWER to turn on the TV. Press button again to turn off the TV and put the TV in standby mode. To cut off the power completely, unplug the power cord from the power outlet. Note: If the TV does not receive a broadcast signal for several minutes, the TV will automatically turn off and go into standby mode. Warning: When the TV is in standby mode, power is still flowing into the TV. For the sake of energy saving and safety issue, please disconnect the power cord to completely cut off the power. Selecting the input source Input TV SCART SVIDEO COMPONENT VGA HDMI USB Enter To select the input source: 1 Press INPUT button. Press 6or 5to select the input source, then press ENTER. You can also select the input source using the following remote control buttons:! HDMI Press to switch to HDMI mode.! COMP Press to switch to COMPONENT mode.! VIDEO Press repeatedly to cycle between the SCART/SVIDEO inputs.! VGA Press to switch to VGA mode.! TV Press to switch to TV mode.! USB Press to switch to USB mode. Selecting a channel Adjusting the volume You can use the following ways to change channels:! Press CH+or CH- to go to the next or previous channel. The skipped channels can not be selected.! Press the number buttons to directly select any channel you want, then wait for the channel to change. Note: Button presses must be within three seconds of each other.! To go to the previous channel viewed, press.! To browse among your favorite channels you setup, press FAVORITE button repeatedly. To adjust the volume:! Press the VOL+ or VOL- to increase or decrease the volume.! Press the MUTE button to temporarily turn off the sound. To restore the sound, press the MUTE button again. Displaying program information To display program information: You can press DISPLAY button to display current program information such as channel number, color/sound system, or video input source, etc. To clear the display, press this button again or wait a few seconds and it disappears automatically. 1

The above main menus are illustrated under TV mode. Menu items that are not selectable are grayed out. If without special indication, this manual is described under TV mode. The illustrations and on-screen displays in this manual are for explanation purposes (some are enlarged, others cropped) and may vary slightly from the actual ones. Using the OSD (on-screen display) menu To operate the OSD menu:! Press MENU to call up the OSD main menu. The screen will now display VIDEO menu.! Press 6or 5one or more times to select menu, press ENTER to access the menu. VIDEO,, SETTING, AUDIO menu can be selected.! From the menu, press 5or 6to select item, press or4to adjust the selected item. If a sub-menu exists, press ENTER or 4to open it, then use 564to operate. To confirm the selection, press ENTER.! To return to previous menu, press MENU.! To close the menu, press EXIT. 1

Note: Be sure to select the TV input source before operation. To auto scan for channels: 1 Press MENU. The on-screen menu opens. 4 Press 6or 5to display menu, then press ENTER. Press 6or 5to highlight Country, then press 4, use 6or 5to select your local area and then press ENTER. If no choice meets, please select Others. Press 6or 5to highlight Auto Scan, then press ENTER. The TV begins scanning for available channels in your area and stores them into memory. This may take several minutes, please wait. During the process, you may press EXIT to stop the auto scan, but you will need to run the auto scan again to set up stations on your TV. 5 To exit, press EXIT button MHz Exit Manual Channel Scan Manual Scan Color System Sound System Country Auto Scan Manual Scan Channel Edit Current Channel Adjust 65.75MHz Exit AUTO BG Others Enter Return If desired programs can not be searched by Auto Scan, you can make use of Manual Scan to search programs manually. To manual scan for channels: 1 Use channel select buttons to select a current position number. Press 6or 5to highlight Manual Scan, then press ENTER. 4 Pressto scan towards lower frequency, press4to scan towards higher frequency. News, weather and sports information, stock exchange prices and programme previews are among the many services available. Size button Press this button several times to display the upper, then the lower part of the screen and then return to the normal size teletext page.! Notes about using USB You can connect a USB device to your TV to view compatible JPEG pictures or play compatible MP audio. Notes: Never remove the USB device or turn off the TV while using the USB device. It is recommended that you do not power on the TV with USB device connected, or the TV might respond to POWER button slowly. It is recommended that you back up your USB device data. Some special USB device (such as portable hard disk)is not supported by this TV model. Therefore do not connect portable hard disk to this TV.. The JPEG picture viewer only supports JPEG format images(with jpg file extensions) and not all JPEG files are compatible with the TV.. The MP audio player only supports MP format files(with mp file extensions) and not all MP files are compatible with the TV. Please use English to name your files. Otherwise the file names can not be shown correctly. Adjust the brightness in the video setting.! Check the antenna/cable connections.! Adjust the color saturation in the video setting.! Check the antenna connections.! Try another channel; it could be station trouble.! Adjust the antenna.! the TV away from noise sources such as cars, neon signs, or hair dryers.! Using a highly directional outdoor antenna may solve the problem.! The sound may be muted. Press MUTE again to cancel.! Communication problems may occur if infrared communication equipment (e.g., infrared cordless headphones) is used near the TV. the infrared communication equipment away from the TV until the noise is eliminated. Possible Solutions! These channels may be set Skip On. You may set it to Off or select them with 0-9 number buttons.! If a setting option appears in gray, this indicates that the settings option is unavailable in current input mode.! When the TV is in use, there is a natural rise in temperature, causing the cabinet to expand or contract and may be accompanied by a slight creaking noise. This is not a malfunction.!
