We have supplied over 300 schools and colleges, from primary and secondary schools to further education and universities. In recent years we have also pioneered local authority and national education network projects. Many of our team are ex-bbc broadcasters with a huge passion for teaching and learning. This means that rather than connecting the various sources such as microphones, CD players and telephone balance units to dedicated channels on a mixer, all sources connect to a digital router called a Master Processing Unit (MPU). The advantage of this is that any source can be routed to any one of the eight or sixteen faders on Synergy s digital mixing desk. 11 Typical radio studio equipment Typical studio Mixing Desk Credible radio broadcast mixing desks are very different to music production or midi-controller mixers. Professional broadcast mixers have the ability to control not just the PC s software but also popular external sources such as CD/USB players and telephone balance units, both industry standard equipment. All of our radio station packages include a Professional radio broadcast mixing desk as standard. Microphones and Headphones Both presenters and guests will require microphones if they are to be heard on the radio. Microphones can differ in price and quality with the presenter usually having a higher quality microphone. While speaking, both presenter and guest will always be wearing headphones as the studio speakers switch-off automatically when the microphones are in use. All of our education packages come with at least two microphones and headphones. Telephone Balance Unit Also known as TBU s, this clever hardware enables you to make and receive phone calls while on-air. Broadcast your caller live or simply record them off-air for later broadcast. TBU s enable phone-in s for competitions and interviews with guests who may not be able to make it to the school. All of our Premium packages include a Telephone Balance Unit as standard. Mic Live/ Indicator The Mic Live indicator is an essential part of any radio station. It connects to the professional radio broadcast mixing desk and automatically illuminates when a microphone fader is open, to warn those close by that any noise, could be recorded or broadcast. All of our education packages include a Dual Mic Live/On-Air indicator as standard. All Premium packages include two Dual Mic Live/On-Air Indicators so one can be mounted outside of the studio Touch Screen Microphones and Headphones room. Modern radio studios use touch screen monitors. They are better than the traditional clunky keyboard operation as they reduce noise, are not limited by the number of available buttons and help Monitor Speakers to keep the presenters operation of the equipment central to the playlist they will be following. Unlike off-the-shelf PC s, a radio studios PC requires more than just one sound card to give the presenter the tools they require to host a live radio show. Our studio PC s include two digital dual sound-cards and are able to broadcast a pre-recorded show, at the same time as recording an interview or telephone call for later broadcast. If you plan to play copyright music on your radio station, then you are likely to need a license. The type of license required is determined by how and where you plan to broadcast. Below is a list of popular licenses that are required for a school to play copyright music within their own building through to broadcasting over the airwaves on AM or FM.
