Tickets: $5.00 for members $8.00 for guests ********************************************************** ****************** From: Israel News Faxx - Nov. 5, 2012, Vol. 20, No. 196 (2012_11_05) Israel's Neuronix Company Offers New Treatment for Alzheimer's Disease By Reuters & Israel Hayom Israel s Neuronix Company, which has developed a non-invasive medical device to help treat Alzheimer's patients, expects the system to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in late The device, which combines electromagnetic stimulation with computer-based cognitive training, is already approved for use in Europe and several Asian countries, as well as in Israel. In Singapore it is approved for clinical trial use and the application for product registration is still under evaluation. "You stimulate the brain on a biological level as well as on a cognitive

2 level," Neuronix CEO Eyal Baror told Reuters, saying this double approach created longer-lasting benefits. The device, which consists of a chair containing an electronic system and software in the back and a coil placed at the head, has been tested on mild to moderate Alzheimer's patients, who suffer from dementia but are not totally dependent. The system is in trials at Harvard Medical School/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Patients are treated for one hour a day, five days a week over six weeks. "We see improvement lasting for nine to 12 months, and the good thing is that patients can return and undergo treatment again," Baror said. "If out of 10 years the patients have left to live we can keep them at home in a relatively mild state of the disease for three, four, five years, it's a lot." According to Alvaro Pascual-Leone, director of the hospital's Berenson-Allen Center for Non-invasive Brain Stimulation, brain stimulation or transcranial magnetic stimulation involves a very low current applied to a specific part of the brain, and is approved by the FDA for treatment of a variety of ailments and diagnostic applications. "The application in Alzheimer's disease and in combination with cognitive training is novel," Pascual-Leono said in a phone interview from Boston. About 20% of patients experience mild headaches but there are no long-term negative effects, he said. Pascual-Leone, who is principal investigator in the Harvard trial, said that of 12 patients in the study, six received the real treatment and all showed cognitive improvement. Their improvement was significantly more than the average seen in patients taking just medication, he said. The study's results will be submitted for publication in coming weeks, and a follow-up study on 30 patients is in the works. Neuronix received European approval several months ago and has installations in the U.K. and Germany. In Israel, a few dozen patients are being treated with the device. The U.S. trials are expected to run till the end of Neuronix is also running a trial in Israel for pre-alzheimer's patients. The company expects to sell half a dozen systems in the second half of 2012 and three dozen in In Israel, the treatment costs $6,000. "Our target for becoming profitable is in parallel to entering the U.S. market around 2015," Baror said. ***************************************************************** Video Sounds Enabled Q. I no longer get sound with Videos on the internet. I used to get sound and I get

3 sound on CDs, etc. so my sound card is ok. A. This is usually a problem with Adobe Flash Player Settings. Try this: 1. Go online and locate a video such as at 2. Select a video and click to start it, then rightclick on the video itself 3. Click Settings. 4. Click Advanced to go to Settings Manager 5. Click on the 2nd item - Global Storage Setting Panel. 5. Put a check to allow 3rd party...if that box is not checked, you'll get the video but no sound. Both boxes should be checked. 6. Also, move the slider to the right to 1MB to avoid pauses in the streaming of the video. NOTE: It could be a CODEC that's needed. Download the sound utility from kcsoftware.com. Run the video inspector while running a video. It will tell you if it needs a new codec and where to get it. ****************************************************************************** Q. Why is my streaming video jerky and not 'streaming'? A. I'll try to answer your question about the video buffering and congestion. The Real Player receives the video from the Internet via your modem and the video is initially placed into what is called a buffer that is used to temporarily store the video data before you can view it. At a certain point the buffer releases the video so that you can view it. At the same time, more video is received and enters the buffer to help keep a smooth stream of video flowing. Without the buffer, the video would be choppy and there would be times where the video stops completely while it waits for the video data to transfer from the Internet to your PC. Even with the buffer this can happen because we use slow dial-up telephone lines to connect to the Internet. The message about Net congestion was to tell you that the Internet lines were clogged up with lots of activity and this was slowing down the flow of the video data to your PC. This can happen during the busy times of the day when lots of people are on the Internet. The congestion is usually at its worst during the middle of the morning, middle of the afternoon, and during the evening. If you try viewing the video at 3am I can pretty much guarantee that you will get pretty good performance. Most people don't think it's worth it to get on at that time, however. ****************************************************************************** ****************** Videos Downloaded to Your Computer 1. Go to Youtube.com and locate the Video that you wish to copy to your computer. 2. Highlight and copy the URL link for that video's location.

4 2. Open new browser window. Go to 3. Paste the URL into the box and click GO. Be patient, it takes time for the Download button to appear and give you the choice of formats. 4.Click Download and save the Video to whichever folder you choose on your hard drive. Note: I selected MP4 and used QuickTime to play it. You may also download the free FLV player and the AVS converter at the Savetube.com site. 3GP is the video format for your phone, if ever you wish to play it there. FLV is a Flash format, you can play it on your PC with Winamp. (Free) MP4 is a format for your PC and Phone, you can play it with QuickTime. If you're having trouble playing videos on YouTube, we suggest you install the latest version of the Flash player. Please follow these steps to upgrade to the most recent version of Adobe's Flash Player: 1. Before installing Adobe Flash, you will need to first uninstall any older versions you currently have running on your computer. To do so, download Adobe's official uninstaller here. Make sure to select your correct operating system, and then "Uninstall Flash." 2. Now that you've uninstalled the older version of Flash, follow Adobe's instructions for reinstalling the most recent version. The download option is on the right-hand side of the page. 3. Once you've downloaded the file, please exit your browser first, and then install the upgraded version of Flash to you're computer. 4. Finally, open your browser again and go to YouTube. You should now be able so successfully watch videos!

5 If the instructions above don't resolve the issue, please also try the following: 1. Temporarily disable popup blocking software installed on your computer to test. 2. Allow YouTube.com as a trusted site in your Firewall software. 3. Ensure other applications like Quicktime, itunes, Real Player, or Windows Media Player aren't set as the default streaming application, as this might affect the video player. 4. You can also visit the Community Help Forums and discuss your issue with other users there. ***************************************************************** Cable box or satellite box, DVR or digital media receiver, it's important to set the output resolution so it looks best with your TV. But what looks best with your TV? The answer is probably easier to find than you'd imagine. All HDTV broadcasts are either 1080i or 720p. Most stations, such as CBS, NBC, and others, are 1080i. Fox, ABC, ESPN, and their various siblings are 720p. Your cable/satellite box can be set to output a specific resolution. Before we discuss what that resolution should be, there are some important things to check: Related stories

Most cable/satellite providers require you to pay a little extra for the HD channels. If you're not (and they haven't told you they include it for free), you're probably not getting HD on that shiny HDTV. Check out "When HD isn't HD" for more info on that. Are you connected with HDMI or component? HDMI (single, boxy connector) and component (one each red, green, and blue) cables are the only ways to transmit HD from a cable/satellite box to your TV. If you're using the single yellow cable (plus two more for audio), you are not getting HD. Check out "How to set up an HDTV" for more info. Are you watching the HD channels? Most cable/satellite providers have separate HD channels. For example, Channel 2 might be CBS in standard definition, but Channel 1002 might be CBS in high definition. It's important to check with your provider to find out where the HD channels are. OK, on to the setup. There are three main options, but sadly with most boxes there are only two: Ideal: Native This is the best-case scenario. If you have this option, you'll be able to get the native resolution of the channel sent to your TV. Pros: The scaler/ deinterlacer in your TV is far better than what's in your cable/satellite box, so this option will get you the best picture quality. Cons: Not all cable/satellite boxes offer native resolution as an option. Also, there could be a delay in changing between 720p and 1080i channels as your TV adjusts to the new resolution. For most people: 1080i If Native isn't an option, 1080i is likely your next best choice. Most TVs are 1080p, and 1080i and 1080p are the same resolution. Pros: All 1080i channels will be output to your TV exactly as is. Cons: All 720p channels will be interlaced and upconverted by your cable box, a device built by

7 the lowest bidder. For some people: 720p If you have a 720p TV, it's possible that setting your cable/satellite box to 720p might be a better option. The deciding factor is how well your box deinterlaces and downconverts 1080i content. My recommendation is to check out both resolutions with both 1080i and 720p channels and see which resolution looks better to you. Pros: All 720p channels will be output to your TV exactly as is. Cons: All 1080i channels will be deinterlaced and downconverted by your cable box. For a few: 1080p/24 Some providers offer pay-per-view movies in 1080p/24. The benefit to this is marginal, unless you have a TV that refreshes at a multiple of 24 and duplicates each film frame without motion interpolation or a 3:2 sequence (check out "What is refresh rate?" and "1080i and 1080p are the same resolution" for more details). There is no information lost in transmitting a 1080p/24 movie over 1080i presuming your TV deinterlaces it correctly, and most do. Pros: If your provider offers it, and if your cable/satellite box can output it, and if your TV can do anything with it, you'll get a smooth, judderless image. Cons: If any of the "ifs" in the Pros section doesn't apply, there's no benefit. Bottom line Just because you have an HDTV doesn't mean you're watching HD on it. Make sure you have the right connections, you're watching the right channels, and your cable/satellite box is outputting the correct HD resolution. For just about everyone, that will be 1080i. A lucky few will have Native as an option. If you have a 720p TV, it's worth spending a few minutes checking your options and seeing which resolution looks best. Look for weird jagged edges, an overly soft image, or combing (which looks like someone dragged a comb across the moving parts of the image. Previously only available for Chrome, it's a nice way to queue up long Web articles for offline reading. It also formats the content for easier reading, sans ads, menus, and other distractions. Here's how to use Send to Kindle forfirefox. After you've installed Send to Kindle for Firefox, the Kindle button will appear in the upper right-hand corner of the Firefox toolbar. Left-click on it to bring up the options box. The "Send to Kindle" option sends the content immediately to your Kindle. The first time you use it, you'll be prompted to log in to your Amazon account and choose delivery options, including which Kindle device(s) you want to send it to. You can also choose "Preview & Send" if you'd like to look at the layout first. If you want to only send selected text, choose "Send Selected Text."

In the past, you could send documents to your Kindle by ing it to a personalized Kindle e- mail address or by connecting your Kindle to your PC via a USB cable. The Send to Kindle program makes sending your documents even easier by allowing you to right-click on them from Windows Explorer. With Send to Kindle, you can also send documents from any Windows program by choosing to print it, then selecting Send to Kindle as the printer. Here's how to use Send to Kindle for Windows: Installation Step 1: Download and install the Send to Kindle program on your PC. Step 2: When asked to register Send to Kindle, enter your Amazon account address and password, then click the "Register" button.
