INTRODUCTION Introducing the architectural pendant that has something for everyone People are different. They have different tastes, different needs and different ideas about lighting. Over time, their outlook can change, their workspace can evolve. But they still need to feel good about their surroundings and their bottom line. Because of its awkwardness and heavy installation costs, pendant lighting has long had difficulty in meeting individual needs and keeping up with changing layouts... until now. AGILI-T s state-of-the-art lightweight construction has all the elements: style, mobility, adaptability and affordability to create a satisfying and lasting pendant lighting experience. With its innovative design and exceptional flexibility, the AGILI-T concept brings pendants to the next level, establishing once again Lightolier s leadership in the lighting industry. Introducing the first interconnected lighting system designed around individual control As technology and ergonomics combine to create new increasingly flexible working environments, occupants require more control over their space, including their lighting. AGILI-T Network is the first lighting system that fully integrates all the elements of individual control. It is designed to meet the growing, enterprise-wide need for personal lighting control, in situations such as desktop videoconferencing and small team presentations, while offering the style, mobility, adaptability and affordability of regular AGILI-T luminaires. With its patent-pending integrated wiring, AGILI-T Network solves all the complex problems of adapting current luminaires to network ballasts. Lightolier is committed to providing the benefits of network ballast technology in the simplest, most attractive way possible.

Flexible Lighting System AGILI-T Network is the most flexible and sophisticated lighting system available today. The AGILI-T Network engineering team has developed and assembled a full range of new control technologies using the existing infrastructure (wiring and communication) present in any modern commercial building. The result is an affordable set of new lighting functions, which can easily be retrofitted or used in new construction projects. All of the AGILI-T Network elements described are now available in 277 volt and 120 volt systems. These elements have been tested and are currently in use on a building wide scale. Commissioning support has also been negotiated for your projects. You will have a competent technology partner able to quote your customer directly on the commissioning and maintenance support of your AGILI-T Network projetcs We will attempt to explain the technology elements in a simple fashion so that you and your customer can be capable of applying this technology. The following is a list of lighting application solutions that can be solved by an AGILI-T Network system. Single Office or Boardroom Personal dimming control of AGILI-T Network luminaires in the space from a computer or from a wall box contoller. Occupancy sensing is also possible from an internal DALI smart sensor in the luminaire. (In the first quarter 2002 daylight sensing will also be possible from the same sensor and remote sensing will also be possible from ceiling sensors for daylight and occupancy.) The advantage of DALI is that you do not have to circuit the boardroom. You simply address and group the luminaires as required and store in the ballasts the required scene data. When a lighting scene is selected the appropriate luminaires and light levels will be selected. Large area with central control Building management without individual control through control of all luminaires in an area or building for daylight harvesting, energy saving, peak demand reduction, light scheduling, and security lighting. The system has energy monitoring, event scheduling and discrete luminaire control when required.

Large building or area with Individual Control System offers a combination of building management and individual control. Control of all luminaires in an area or building for daylight harvesting, energy saving, peak demand reduction, light scheduling, and security lighting. The system has energy monitoring, event scheduling and discrete luminaire control when required. Individual control of luminaires by individual users in the space all control provided simply over the building Intranet. Large building control with individual control and occupancy sensor - System offers a combination of building management, individual control and added savings from individual occupamcy sensors in each luminaire. Smart occupancy sensors in each luminaire turn lights off or reduce light levels when users are not in their work areas.

1. What is DALI 1.1 DALI History The history of DALI is all about simplicity, standardization and cost effectiveness. The ballast companies had been requested by the building management companies to make ballasts, which worked using their protocols. There are about 75 ballasts required for a complete fluorescent electronic offering. A full set of ballasts would have been required for each protocol (Cebus, EIB, Lonworks, Bacnet etc). Creating ballasts with a Neuron chip from an existing protocol was also very expensive and provided functionality well beyond what was required for lighting. The ballast companies in Europe which are now also the major owners of the leading ballast companies in North America decided to create their own simplified protocol. The discussions actually began in 1991 and agreement to create a new standard began in The design program was completed in DALI system description Each unit in the DALI network has it s own individual address providing direct communication to each DALI lighting components. The wiring consists of a simple two-wire cable without polarity. Furthermore, AGILI-T Network use class 1 wires allowing Network wiring to be done through the same conduit used for standard electrical circuit wiring. The system can be reconfigured (scene control, group setting etc ) by programming without needing to change wiring or hardware. New DALI components can be added anywhere in the DALI system, no wiring configuration rules apply on the DALI line. A DALI Loop has a limit of 64 addresses. Multiple DALI loops can be joined together through computer software to provide control over large number of DALI devices. DALI is not competing against BMS systems but it could be complementing them through specific system interface.

DALI Ballast Technology Terms Addressable luminaires System capability to communicate and control with individual luminaires or even parts of individual luminaires. Ballast Memory Ballast is able to store all data including groups, scenes, light levels, and emergency conditions. Memory also includes seven states of the ballast to monitor ballast operation, lamp operation and energy consumption. The result is simple control devices, which do not require any programming or setup versus competing technologies where every wall box controller must be tediously programmed. Two-way communication Messages can be sent to the ballast and when polled messages can be received from the ballast. This bi-directional information flow enables information feedback on the condition of the DALI devices. Information like luminaire state (on/off), Light level, energy consumption lamp and ballast condition can be read from the Network to provide enhanced building and energy management. DALI Bus A device that sits anywhere on the two DALI wires. This device is the interface to a computer for DALI ballast programming and control Smart Occupancy Sensor An occupancy sensor that sits on the DALI line in an AGILI-T Network luminaire. These sensors are much smarter than normal occupancy sensors and can be programmed over the DALI line. Category One wiring The power and DALI wiring are permitted by code to be in the same conduit. This makes wiring much simpler as you do not need an extra cable for communication as in other systems. Intranet Control AGILI-T Network luminaires can be assigned to individual users in a building. Control is through Internet Explorer to an internal AGILI-T Network lighting web server technology.

2. Networking with AGILI-T Agili-T Network DA is the first luminaire specifically designed for network control. Imagine controlling every aspect of lighting within a group of luminaires, down to a resolution of a single luminaire... You can with Agili-T Network DA, the first luminaire system designed to integrate cost-effective network ballast technology. Single-luminaire Resolution Within a network, the unit of lighting control is the individual Agili-T Network DA luminaire. Because every single luminaire is fully addressable from any designated computer workstation, network lighting technology offers a new level of control in terms of ambience, productivity, visual comfort, etc. Energy-saving Opportunities More points of control, daylight control, time-based dimming, network-wide dimming and other personalized settings are just some of the ways to cut down on operating costs while delivering all the light required by occupants. Easily Re-configurable Controls With today s frequent remodeling of office layouts, Agili-T Network DA facilitates the change over to new lighting control characteristics; special network software can be easily re-programmed to suit new localized needs. Network-wide Feedback Network lighting software also warns of ballast problems and end-of-life re-lamping needs. Energy consumption can be measured in real-time, from one luminaire to a group of luminaires or from the entire building. From that information, statistic cans by put together and analyzed giving tremendous opportunities to save energy by, for example, controlling electrical peek demand. Lightolier is committed to integrating developments in network technology,

AGILI-T Network DALI applications Single Office or Boardroom - Use AGILI-T Network luminaires with wall box scene controllers and an AGILI-T Network DALI power supply. (see section 4.2 for more information) AGILI-T Network Bus: This device powers the Network wires. There is one AGILI-T Network Bus per AGILI-T Network Loop.. This device is also the interface between the Network Loop and the computer to provide control and feedback recording through software (See section 4.3 for specific information) DALI Controllers: These types of DALI devices can be wall switch controllers (by others) for Group control, Scene control, On/OFF and Raise/Lower. DALI controllers can also take the form of a ceiling or luminaire mount sensor for occupancy sensor or daylight control. AGILI-T Network Software: The AGILI-T Network Software provides communication to multiple AGILI-T Network Loops to achieve complete building Lighting System Control. By using software we can also realize individual lighting control using the actual user Ethernet system. Software may also be used to interface with existing Building Management system. (See section 4.9 for more information)

4. AGILI-T Network DA components This section reviews and describes the different components to build an AGILI-T Network DA system. 4.1 AGILI-T Network DA Each AGILI-T Network DA power feed has 6 wires. Four wires for LINE 1 and LINE 2, plus 2 wires for Network control. All wires are CLASS 1 and can be installed in the same conduit (See figure 4.1.A). Figure 4.1.A AGILI-T Network and Power Feed AGILI-T Network DA utilizes Class 1 wires and could be installed in the same conduit See figure 4.1.B for double circuit utilization for each AGILI-T Network DA model. In a row configuration where a mix of luminaires using circuit 1 (line 1, black wire) and circuit 2 ( line 2, red wire ), the power feed of that row should be wired as Figure 4.1.B in AGM configuration (last wiring diagram). The two continuous-wired circuits maintain the integrity of separate controls for luminaires using circuit 1, circuit 2 or both (AGM). The AGM luminaire uses circuit 1 (line 1, black wire) for direct lower lamp compartment and circuit 2 (line 2, red wire) for the indirect upper lamp compartment.

4.8 Sensors - Power ON On a power on mode, the smarteye will be deactivated from any DALI bus signals. After 4 Sec, the sensor will search for addressed ballasts. This will take maximally 2 sec. The smarteye will query following information from the attached addressed ballast(s) All Group Addresses related to the attached ballasts (Group 0-15) Value of Scene 15 After a max of 6 sec the smarteye will be ready to accept and forward DALI commands. The motion sensor will be ready after 15 seconds to detect any motion. (Startup time for the PIR after power-up). After that time a 2 minutes timer will be started. After this timer runs out, the ballast will be switched OFF or scene 15 will be recalled (see also Timeout Motion timer). When powered, the ballast will go to the value set in the ballast itself as power on value. If no motion is recognized within this time, the individual settings will be recalled. - Motion If the ballast is switched off or scene 15 is active and a motion is recognized, the module will recall the last used scene or the last used power level to the ballast. If there is no recognizable value, (no short address assigned) the value stored in the ballast as max level is recalled. If the ballast is switched on already, no change will be made on the light level. The smarteye knows the last scene/light level as he is listening to the bus communication based on addresses and memorizes these values. If motion is recognized, an adaptive timer (Motion timer) is started. This timer is adapting automatically to a time of minutes depending on motion frequency. - No motion (Timeout Motion timer) If the Motion timers runs out, all ballasts are switched off. That means either scene 15 is recalled, if scene 15 is not having a stored value of 255 (mask=not defined)

or the ballasts are switched off on behalf of the Direct Arc Power value 0, the ballasts will be switched off with the ramp memorized into the ballast. - Manual OFF If the ballast are switched off by a short address command, the Manual Off timer is started. This timer runs out if for 10 consecutive minutes no motion is detected. Only then the sensor would switch on the ballast if motion is detected. - Manual ON If the ballasts are switched on, on behalf of a short address command, an Adaptive Motion timer of 2 minutes is started or eventually restarted. - Broadcast and Group commands If the ballasts are switched on with a broadcast or a group related command, the smarteye would not recognize this and the command would not be stored. The individual settings (all commands sent in conjunction with the address) are kept. A broadcast-, group OFF or Scene 15 will not be recognized as manual OFF and would not start the Manual off Timer. The motion sensor will switch on the light without any delay upon recognition of presence. A Broadcast-, Group ON will switch on all switched off ballasts, if no motion is detected, a 15 minute timer will be started. (Similar to power ON situation) Upon running out, the ballast will be switched off. This timer can be triggered. A Broadcast, Group ON, on a situation where the ballasts are already on, will restart the Motion timer. When the motion timer will run out, the lights are switched off; there will be no waiting time of 15 minutes.

Reaction on commands Command Actual situation Motion (ON) No motion (OFF) Broadcast command Group command Short command ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF ON OFF motion motion motion timeout retrigger retrigger retrigger 10min ON timeout 15 min OFF Adaptive Delay time of the Motion timer ON timeout 15 min OFF ON motion 2-20min - If luminaires are switched off >45s - trigger happens (recognized motion) - Delay time set to 2min - Any further trigger within the next 1-minute will rise the Delay time 1min up to the Nominal Delay time (10min). - If luminaire is off for <45s or on dim down to off mode trigger happens (luminaire switched off as very low motion was happening that was not detected from the sensor) the delay time will be set to 20min, if further triggers are happening, the timing will be reduced step by step to the Nominal Delay time (10min). Memorized values in the smarteye OFF timeout 10min - Active SCENES (0-14) When a scene is recalled in conjunction with a short Address, this scene is memorized into the smarteye and will be recalled at the next motion detection. As scenes only scene 0-14 should be used. Those should not be set to the value 0 (OFF), as the smarteye assumes that the light is on when one of these scenes is being recalled. The light levels of the different scenes 0-14 are not memorized. - Scene 15 Scene 15 is the OFF Scene. The power level of scene 15 is memorized. If the value of this scene is 255 (=mask) the light will be switched off on behalf of the direct arc power command 0. - POWER LEVEL All changes done to the power level by DIRECT ARC POWER and short Address are memorized in the sensor.

4.9 AGILI-T Network Software The AGILI-T Network Software provides communication to multiple AGILI-T Network Loops to achieve complete building Lighting System Control. By using software, we can also realize individual lighting control, using the actual user Ethernet system. Software may also be used to interface with existing Building Management Systems. Two types of AGILI-T Network Software may be used to compliment other DALI Controller Devices (Wall Controllers, Occupancy Sensor, etc): AGILI-T Network Single User Software AGILI-T Network Multiple User Software (See Appendix D for information)

1 lamp T5 UP 2 lamp T5 DOWN per 4 section AGM4PGRDS328 Lighting Systems Agili-T AGM Pendant direct/indirect TYPE: SEPARATE OPTICS AGM features separate optics enabling the independent lighting control of upper and lower AGM compartments, whether the luminaire is installed individually or in a row. INDIVIDUAL CONTROL One circuit for AGM upper compartment controls 1 ballast and 1 T5 lamp for indirect lighting ( per 4 of luminaire). One circuit for AGM lower compartment controls 1 ballast and 2 T5 lamps for direct lighting ( per 4 of luminaire). Two ballasts allow independant control of compartments (e.g. uniform ceiling luminance and no direct light). Separate dimming of compartments available with Agili-T Network version. CONTINUOUS-ROW CONTROL All Agili-T luminaires are available with double-circuit wiring (suffixes DS and DN). When AGM is installed in a row with other Agili-T luminaires, the two continuous-wired circuits maintain the integrity of separate controls for the AGM luminaire. Rows combining AGM and AGU useful for applications requiring specially located direct light for task illumination. When the upper-compartment circuit is switched on, upper-compartment lighting for the entire row is activated. When the lower-compartment circuit is switched on, lower-compartment lighting for the entire row is activated. Mixed rows including different models of Agili-T Network enable precise control of each circuit in each luminaire.
