7 1 GENERAL The S739DV and S7739DV systems support the transmission of video from a camera to a monitoring station and a data signal back to the camera - over one or two fibers. The S739DV is a multimode link, while the S7739DV is a single-mode link. A single coaxial cable at each end of the link is used to connect the appropriate equipment to the system. NOTE: The term S739DV will be used generically in this manual to describe all models except where noted. 2 FEATURES 2.1 STANDALONE MODULES All S739DV standalone modules feature a four-position removable screw-terminal connector for the electrical input connection. S739DV modules also have a single BNC and a single fiber connector for each video channel. (S739DV2 modules have two fiber connectors.) All S739DV modules feature diagnostic LEDs to indicate the presence or absence of Power and the various optical and data signals. See section 7 TROUBLESHOOTING for more information. S739DV modules feature a wall-mounting plate which attaches to suitable flat surfaces. Once the plate is securely attached to a flat surface, the S739DV can be mounted to the plate and can be easily detached. An additional, optional bracket is also provided for more secure mounting. See section RACKMOUNT CARDS S739DV rackmount cards feature diagnostic LEDs which indicate the presence or absence electrical input and the various optical and data signals. 8 S739DV rackmount cards feature a single BNC connector as well as a single fiber connection for each video channel. (S739DV2 cards feature two fiber connectors.) The rackmount cards are designed to be mounted in Fiber Options 515R1 or 517R1 card cages. Electrical power input is derived from the card cage. 2.3 ALARM JUMPER Rack cards are supplied with an alarm function that goes active if the optical signal input to the receiver fails. The alarm is always indicated on the front panel of the card by a red Level/Loss(tm) LED. The alarm may also be output to the rack power supply, where a sonalert (audible alarm) and alarm output contact closure may be activated. The alarm is set to ACTIVE at the factory. If the alarm output is not desired, remove jumper W1 from the rack card. Refer to Figure3. NOTE: Removing jumper W1 does not affect the operation of the Level/Loss LED. Loss of optical signal will always be indicated by a red Level/Loss(tm) LED. 3 INSTALLATION 3.1 STANDALONE MODULES Care should be taken in selecting a mounting location with a surface suitable for mounting the module. There should be sufficient space for making the various cable, electrical, and fiber connections. Modules are shipped with a mounting plate attached. An additional bracket is also supplied to prevent the module from being accidentally dislodged from the mounting plate. The mounting plate has holes for six number 6 screws and the security bracket requires 1 similar screw. The type of screw chosen must be suitable for the surface on which the module is to be mounted. Mount the plate to the selected surface and slide the module onto the mounting plate. CAUTION: Fiber Options recommends that you do not mount the equipment directly to sheetrock (gypsum panels) or other similar material. 2 Fiber Options

11 If additional anchoring is desired, before attaching the unit to the mounting plate, remove one of the screws from the rear of the S739DV as indicated in Figure 4. Mount the optional security clip to the module using the screw you removed. Attach the module to the mounting plate and secure the module by screwing the clip to the wall surface. The module can be easily removed for service by removing this single screw. 3.2 RACK-MOUNT CARDS Normally, rack cards are installed in one of Fiber Options 19-inch (483-mm) EIA standard card-cage racks, either the 515R1 or the 517R1. They may also be installed in one of the standalone rackcard enclosures, the 501R. 502R, or 503R. CAUTION: Although the cards are hot-swappable, Fiber Options recommends that the power switch on the rack power supply is turned OFF and that the rack power supply is disconnected from any power source during installation R1 AND 517R1 CARD RACKS 1. Make sure that the card is oriented right-side up, and slide it into the card guides in the rack until the edge connector at the back of the card seats in the corresponding slot in the rack s connector panel. Seating may require thumb pressure on the top and bottom of the card s front panel. CAUTION: Take care not to press on any of the LEDs. 2. Tighten the two thumb screws on the card until the front panel of the card is seated against the front of the rack R, 502R, AND 503R STANDALONE ENCLOSURES CAUTION: The rack card module can ONLY be powered by VDC. AC power must not be used. CAUTION: Fiber Options recommends that the enclosure is not connected to any power source during installation. S739DV and S7739DV Instruction Manual 5

12 1. Look inside the enclosure to determine the location of the socket for the edge connector on the card. Orient the card so that it will seat in the socket, and slide it into the card guides in the enclosure until the edge connector at the back of the card seats in the socket. Seating may require thumb pressure on the top and bottom of the card s front panel. CAUTION: Take care not to press on any of the LEDs. 2. Tighten the two thumb screws on the card until the front panel of the card is seated against the front of the enclosure. 4 SIGNAL CONNECTIONS All fiber-optic links convert electrical signals of some type or types into a light signal at the transmitter and convert the light back to electrical signals for output at the receiver. The electrical signal connections to the S739DV series consist of a single BNC connector on the transmitter and receiver. CAUTION: Make sure all peripheral equipment that is to be connected to the fiber unit is turned OFF during installation. NOTE: Fiber Options recommends using Belden 9259 RG59/U coaxial cable between the video equipment and the fiber units. The video equipment and the fiber unit should be no more than 100 ft (30 m) apart. NOTE: Coaxial cable must be terminated with female BNC connectors to properly couple with the Fiber Options equipment. Connect the video source equipment, such as a camera, to the S739DVT transmitter using terminated coaxial cable. Connect the monitoring equipment to the S739DVR receiver with terminated coaxial cable. 6 Fiber Options

Unlit No Genlock signal being sent or signal is < 2V. 5 OPTICAL CONNECTIONS The standard optical connector on Fiber Options units is the ST type. Connect the pre-terminated fiber to the two fiber units. If using S739DV2 models, be sure to connect the Tx of each link to the Rx of the other link. S739DV and S7739DV Instruction Manual 7

14 8 6 ELECTRICAL CONNECTION 6.1 RACKMOUNT CARDS Make sure the power switch of the power supply is OFF, and plug the supplied power cord into a suitable outlet. Press the power switch to apply power to the modules in the rack. 6.2 STANDALONE MODULES 1. Identify the power connector and remove it from the module. 2. Make sure the power supply is not connected to any power source, and strip approximately 0.25-in (6-mm) of insulation from the ends of the cable. 3. Taking care to observe the correct polarization of the cable (see table 1 for standalone modules, table 2 for 501R standalones), insert one lead into one of the screw sockets and tighten the screw. Repeat for the other conductor. Confirm the security of the connection by a light pull on the cable. 4. Seat the connector in its position in the fiber unit. 5. Plug the power supply into a suitable outlet. CAUTION: The rack card module can ONLY be powered by VDC. AC power must not be used. Power up the peripheral equipment and verify system operation by observing video on the monitor at the receiver end. If the system does not perform as expected, refer to Table 4 for an explanation of how to diagnose system faults using the LEDs built into the Fiber Options units. 7 TROUBLESHOOTING S739DV links all have diagnostic LEDs to assist in troubleshooting and correcting problems. Refer to Table 3. If the S739DV fails to operate and the cause of the failure cannot be determined, it may be necessary to contact Fiber Options. Fiber Options

15 8 CONTACTING FIBER OPTIONS If you cannot determine the cause of your problem and you are in the U.S. or Canada, call the Fiber Options Headquarters in Bohemia, NY. If you are outside the U.S. or Canada, call the closest international office as listed on the back page of this manual. Have the following information available: exact model number and product code of your fiber-optic links, and a listing of the diagnostic indicators and their respective color/condition. 9 SHIPPING AND PACKAGING Before shipping or transporting your Fiber Options unit, pack it securely to prevent damage that could occur in transit. Use care to protect all connectors, LEDs, and corners from possible damage. 10 RETURNS TO FIBER OPTIONS If any equipment must be returned to Fiber Options for repair or replacement, you must obtain authorization from our Return Authorization department before shipping the unit. Call Fiber Options at or and ask to speak to a Return Authorizations representative. You will be given full instructions for returning your product at that time. NOTE: All authorized returns must be clearly marked with the Return Authorization information. Please follow the instructions completely.
