5 Installation and Operation Manual SECURITY MEASURES Accessing Setup Menus NOTE: This page describes how to access security sensitive features. You may wish to remove this page from the manual and place it in a secure place. Access the setup menus when the digital recorder is stopped. Press the Menu button. The main menu appears on screen. Use the Select and Up/Down arrow buttons to navigate through the menu system. To exit the setup menu system, press the Menu button. The menu disappears and the digital time-lapse recorder resumes normal operation. The Security Lock Feature NOTE: Security Lock protects the digital recorder against unauthorized use by disabling all front panel controls. # (Cut along this line) To Engage or Release Security Lock Resetting the Digital Time-Lapse Recorder 1. Select the operating mode in which the unit is to be locked. 2. Press and hold both arrow buttons for at least three seconds. The LOCKED indicator is lit. 3. To release the security lock, press and hold both arrow buttons again for at least three seconds. The LOCKED indicator turns off. The digital time-lapse recorder can be reset to the factory default state. Upon reset, all programmable features return to the factory settings. The reset feature is normally used for diagnostic purposes but may be used to start from scratch during system setup. To Reset Factory Defaults Use a paper-clip or the tip of a pen to press the special access switch hidden above the Stop/Eject button. The Special Access Menu appears on the seven-segment display. Press the Up or Down button until the word EnGLISH appears in the seven-segment display. Press the Select button. The digital time-lapse recorder resets and returns to the factory default state. v

6 Integra Digital Time-Lapse Recorder Special Access Operations The user may display the special access seven-segment display by pressing the hidden recessed switch with a paper clip or pen tip. Press this switch a second time to turn off the special access seven-segment display. Use the Up/Down front panel controls to navigate the special access menu. EnGLISH (ENGLISH) The unit reverts to all factory default settings. reboot (REBOOT) Resets system, preserving user settings. PAL/ntSC (PAL/NTSC) Allows selection of NTSC/EIA or PAL/CCIR video standards. The Select button on the front panel toggles selection between NTSC/EIA and PAL/CCIR formats. Exit the special access menu to begin the new display mode. Firmware Update: DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM or CD-ROM To upgrade the unit s application firmware from DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM or CD-ROM, press the Menu and Select buttons while powering up the unit. Release the buttons when the unit emits a short beep. The letters UP and d appear in the 4- digit LED display. Place the update disk from the manufacturer in the tray and close the door by pressing the Eject button. When the update procedure is complete, the unit emits a short beep, the drive door opens and the update disk may be removed from the tray. vi

7 Installation and Operation Manual 1 INSTALLATION GUIDELINES Power Setting Select a location for the time-lapse digital recorder that has stable AC power. CAUTION: The time-lapse digital recorder does not have a power switch. Therefore, set the voltage switch to the correct voltage ( 115 or 230 ) before connecting power. CAUTION: Do not apply power until you have connected all other devices to the unit. Switch the power supply to the correct input voltage setting: 115 or 230 volts. Video In CAUTION: If a portion of a cable is installed outside of a building, the entire cable is vulnerable to lightning. Install protection devices on all vulnerable cables. Connect the video output of a composite video or S-VIDEO source to the digital time-lapse recorder s Video In connector. Video Out Remote Port Connector Alarm/Signal I/O Connector Connect the composite video or S-VIDEO Video Out connector to the appropriate video input connector of a monitor (NTSC/EIA or PAL/CCIR) or the VCR input of another device, such as a multiplexer. This output displays live or recorded video and allows on-screen programming of the time-lapse digital recorder. The Remote Port DB9-P connector requires a null modem cable connector (not provided) for connection to a PC. See Appendix A Remote Port Connector Pin Assignments for specific pin assignments and Appendix B Remote Control ASCII Commands for additional information. The alarm/signal I/O connector includes pins for mechanical or TTL/CMOS alarm and relay inputs and outputs. A mating connector is provided. See Rear Panel Connectors for specific pin assignments and additional information.

8 2 Integra Digital Time-Lapse Recorder FRONT PANEL CONTROLS AND INDICATORS Front Panel Controls Menu The unit must be stopped to access the menu. The main menu is displayed for on-screen programming on a monitor attached to the composite video or S-VIDEO outputs. The PROGRAM indicator is lit. Select Press while in on-screen programming mode to select the highlighted menu item. Press in any other mode to toggle display between TIME OF DAY and % DISK REMAINING. Up/Down Pressing either of these buttons moves the highlight in the on-screen menu or navigates the special access menu. Movement past the top or bottom item in the menu restarts the highlight at the bottom or top of the item list. Record The unit must be stopped to use this feature. Press to place unit in record mode at the programmed rate. Recording begins at the end of the last recorded data. The REC indicator is lit while unit is in record mode. Play/Pause Press this button to display successive video images from the recorded media. Press this button during play to freeze the display.

9 Installation and Operation Manual 3 Reverse/Forward Single-step These buttons step video images in reverse or forward direction image-by-image. Use either of these buttons in playback mode to pause the image display. Reverse/Forward Search These buttons play video images in forward or reverse direction at approximately two, three, four or five times the recorded speed. Each subsequent press of the Forward Search or Reverse Search button increases the rate. Press the Forward Search button once more while in the 5X rate to fast forward to the end of the recorded media. Press the Reverse Search button once more while in the 5X rate to rewind to the beginning of the recorded media. Alarm Press this button for immediate access to the PLAY ALARM menu. A display of the most recent alarms is available for a monitor attached to the unit s video output. The PROGRAM indicator is lit. The Unreviewed Alarms indicator is extinguished. The unit must be stopped or paused to use the PLAY ALARM menu. Stop/Eject Press this button to stop the unit in record, play, single-step forward/reverse or forward/reverse search mode. Press this button a second time to eject the media from the DVD drive. Ejection is delayed to allow safe transfer of data to and from the media before removal.

10 4 Integra Digital Time-Lapse Recorder Front Panel Indicators Normal Operations PWR LOSS Indicates that the system and the alarm/event list have detected a power loss that has not been reviewed. The Unreviewed Alarms indicator may be on or off. Press any button to turn off the power loss indicator. PROGRAM Indicates that the on-screen programming or the special access menu is active, whether accessed from the front panel or remote command. Exiting on-screen programming, beginning record or playback operations turns off this indicator. LOCKED Indicates that front panel controls are disabled. Enable the front panel controls to turn off this indicator. REAL TIME Indicates that unit is operating at real-time speed. This feature can be active during both record and playback operations. DISK FULL Indicates that the last recorded information on the media has reached the programmed capacity. Insert new media or erase the current media to turn off this indicator. Inactive in CONTINUOUS RECORD mode. Inserting locked or write-protected media causes this indicator to blink. TIME OF DAY/% DISK REMAINING The user selects either the TIME OF DAY display or the % DISK REMAINING display in the DISPLAY OPTIONS FRONT PANEL OPTIONS menu. Press the Select front panel control to momentarily display the alternate message.

11 Installation and Operation Manual 5 RATE Indicates the current programmed rate of image record/playback in images per second. REV FWD REV/(Pause)/FWD (Pause) is lit when the unit is paused or in single-step mode (forward or reverse). The REV symbol is lit when the unit is in reverse search mode. The FWD symbol is lit when the unit is in play mode or forward search mode. Unreviewed Alarms (red indicator lamp above Alarm button) This indicator is lit when there are alarm/events that have not yet been reviewed. Reviewing the alarm list by accessing the PLAY ALARM menu turns off this indicator. REC (red indicator lamp on name plate) This indicator is lit when the unit is in record mode. Seven-Segment Display EJCt dsc (EJECT DISC) The drive ejects the media. EOd (END OF DATA) The unit detects the end of recorded data. When EOd is encountered during playback or forward search operations, play/search is halted and live video is displayed. Err (ERROR) A system error or failure has occurred. This message displays continuously in the event of a system failure. Call Technical Support for assistance. FInd End (FIND END) The unit searches the disk to find the end of the data. InIt dsc (INITIALIZE DISC) The unit initializes the media. LOAd dsc (LOAD DISC) The unit loads the media. no dsc (NO DISC) No media is inserted. This message alternates with TIME OF DAY display when media is ejected. It clears when media is inserted. PREP dsc (PREPARE DISC) The drive performs highlevel formatting to build the data file structure. The progress of the formatting is expressed as a percentage of completion. rd OnLy (READ ONLY) The inserted media is locked. The protect tab prevents writing on the inserted media or the media is full. Remove the disc and move the write-protect tab to allow writing to the media.

12 6 Integra Digital Time-Lapse Recorder REAR PANEL CONNECTORS Remote Port Standard DB9-P connector. The default settings are seven data bits, odd parity, and 1 stop/start bit, with all parameters selectable through the on-screen programming menu. Expected input is ASCII character commands. Default signal rate is 9600 bps with selectable rates at 1200, 2400, 4800 and 9600 bps. Alarm/Signal I/O Connector Ten-pin block with provided mating connector. Discrete signals and default settings are as follows: Alarm Trigger Input (Pin 1) Five-volt logic input or contact closure to ground triggers alarm recording response as set in program parameters. Default setting is active low and is selectable as active high or active low in on-screen programming. Alarm Output (Pin 2) Five-volt logic output in response to alarm recording activity as set in program parameters. Default setting is active high and is selectable as active high or active low in on-screen programming. +5VDC Output (Pin 4) Positive five-volt DC output at 1.25 Amps. Reserved for factory use.

13 Installation and Operation Manual 7 Multiplexer Synchronization Output (Pin 5) This fivevolt logic digital rectangular waveform optimizes the image rate of an attached multiplexer when the recording mode changes. Default setting is active low and is selectable as active high or active low in on-screen programming. Record Start Input (Pin 6) Five-volt logic input or contact closure to ground; can be cross-connected to the disk full output of a second unit. Default setting is active low and is selectable as active high or active low in onscreen programming. Disk Full Output (Pin 7) Five-volt logic output at the media capacity threshold. Default setting is active low and is selectable as active high or active low in on-screen programming. This output is inactive in CONTINUOUS RECORD mode. Default threshold setting is 99.9% and may be selected through on-screen programming from 95% to a minimum of 75% in 5% increments. Video Loss Output (Pin 8) Five-volt logic output in response to a system detection of a video loss condition. Default setting is active high and is selectable as active high or active low in on-screen programming. Diagnostic Output (Pin 9) Five-volt logic output in response to a system detection of an internal general failure condition or error. The default setting is active high and is selectable as active high or active low in on-screen programming. Ground (Pin 10) Ground return conductor for input or output signals. Composite Video Out This standard BNC video output connector will support either the NTSC/EIA or PAL/CCIR video standards. The default setting for this connector is NTSC/EIA. Both composite video and S-VIDEO video outputs are active at the same time. Output impedance is 75 ohms. S-VIDEO Out This standard four-pin S-VIDEO output connector will support either the NTSC/EIA or the PAL/CCIR video standards. The default setting for this connector is NTSC/EIA. Both composite video and S-VIDEO video outputs are active at the same time. Output impedance is at 75 ohms.

14 8 Integra Digital Time-Lapse Recorder Composite Video In This standard BNC video input connector will support either the NTSC/EIA or the PAL/CCIR video standards (selectable at the front panel seven-segment LED). The default setting is NTSC/EIA. Only one or the other (composite video or S-VIDEO) signal input connectors is active at any time. Video signal input must be selected (COMPOSITE or S-VIDEO) in the SIGNAL/RELAY OPTIONS menu in on-screen programming. The default video input setting is COMPOSITE. Input impedance is at 75 ohms. S-VIDEO In This standard four-pin S-VIDEO input connector will support either the NTSC/EIA or the PAL/CCIR video standards (selectable at the front panel seven-segment LED). The default setting is NTSC/EIA. Only one or the other (composite video or S-VIDEO) signal input connectors is active at any time. Video signal input must be selected (COMPOSITE or S-VIDEO) in the SIGNAL/RELAY OPTIONS menu in on-screen programming. Input impedance is at 75 ohms.

15 Installation and Operation Manual 9 PROGRAMMING Main Menu Play Alarm Menu The unit must be stopped to access the menus. Press Select while in on-screen programming mode to select or change the highlighted menu item. Pressing either Up or Down moves the highlight in the on-screen menu. Press the Menu button at any time to return to the MAIN MENU. The PLAY ALARM page displays up to eight of the last alarms received by the unit in date and time order of occurrence. The user may review these records in the forward or reverse direction by using the NEXT or PREVIOUS selections. If there have been no log entries, the area under the column headings will be blank.

16 10 Integra Digital Time-Lapse Recorder Status Menu Pressing either Up or Down moves the highlight in the onscreen menu. The user can increment the SET INDEX date and time by pressing the Select button. Pressing the Select control when GO TO INDEX is highlighted resets the alarm list and prepares the unit to play the recorded media from a selected point. The SET INDEX selection is highlighted in the ENTRY column at the center of the new list of records. Pressing the Select control when the SET INDEX selection is highlighted in the list of records terminates on-screen programming. The unit displays a paused image of the video record stamped with the SET INDEX date and time. Pressing Select for a highlighted entry in the list of records ends on-screen programming and cues the paused video image for that entry. To return to the PLAY ALARM menu, press the Alarm front panel button. The user may select the STATUS menu to review the unit s identification and how many alarms, power loss or video loss incidents have been received by the unit during the current period. The percentage of the media filled with images can be compared against the percentage of the media available for recording. This screen also shows the time and date at which recording began and ended. Press the Menu button to return to the MAIN MENU.

17 Installation and Operation Manual 11 Record Options Menu The user may select the RECORD OPTIONS menu to program the unit s behavior in record mode. Pressing either Up or Down moves the highlight in the on-screen menu. Press Select to select or change the highlighted menu item. For INPUT SOURCE, select ROBOT, SENSORMATIC, AMERI- CAN DYNAMICS or COMPUTAR (European models of Computar only) for best recording duration with these multiplexers. Select OTHER MULTIPLEXER for all other brands. If CONTINUOUS RECORD is ON and the disk is full, it will begin recording over the earliest data on the media. If the resolution of the recorded image is too low, set VIDEO FILTER to MIN or OFF to improve the resolution. If random noise appears in the recorded image, set VIDEO FILTER to MIN or MAX to improve the picture quality. Selecting RESTORE on any menu page will revert all settings on that page to their previous values without changes being made. The VIDEO AGC feature controls active video output levels. Select ON to correct the active video output from the input level. Select OFF to produce the active video output at the input level.

18 12 Integra Digital Time-Lapse Recorder Schedule Options Menu Alarm Options Menu The user may select the SCHEDULE OPTIONS menu to set the time each day that the unit will start and stop recording and the speed at which normal recording will take place. Pressing either Up or Down moves the highlight in the on-screen menu. The user can increment the time or change the highlighted menu item by pressing the Select button. Times are selected and displayed in 24-hour clock format. If DLY (Daily) is ON, the day MODE selections are OFF. If any day MODE selection is ON, the DLY MODE selection is OFF. The user may select the ALARM OPTIONS menu to control alarm signals, the rate at which alarm initiated recording takes place and the quality of the images recorded in alarm mode.

19 Installation and Operation Manual 13 Signal/Relay Options Menu Display Options Menu The user may select the SIGNAL/RELAY OPTIONS menu to select composite or S-VIDEO signal input, control alert or diagnostic signals and relay signals used to cascade recording units or other devices. The user may select the DISPLAY OPTIONS menu to control the appearance of text on a monitor connected to the video output. The LOCATION selection places the selected text information in one of six areas of the display monitor. PLAYBACK SYMBOLS must be ON to allow REV, PAUSE and FWD symbols to appear overlaying the video during playback. The user may select the FRONT PANEL OPTIONS menu to control the front panel LED display. The TIME OF DAY selection displays the current time as set in SET DATE/TIME/ID. The % DISK REMAINING selection displays the current percentage of the media containing recorded information.

20 14 Integra Digital Time-Lapse Recorder Set Date/Time/ID Communication Options Menu The user may select the SET DATE/TIME/ID menu to set the format in which the date appears, set the date and time at the bottom of the display screen and on the front panel or set a three digit identification number for the unit. Pressing either Up or Down moves the highlight in the on-screen menu. The user can increment DATE/TIME or UNIT ID by pressing the Select button. The default value for DATE/TIME is the current system time. The default value for FORMAT DATE is the current language date format. The user may select the COMMUNICATION OPTIONS menu to set the characteristics of the expected signal at the remote connector.

21 Installation and Operation Manual 15 Maintenance Options Menu If the user selects ERASE MEDIA, a confirmation menu stating, ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO ERASE THE MEDIA? ALL DATA WILL BE LOST! displays. The user must select YES to erase the media. The default value is NO. If the user selects RESTORE FACTORY DEFAULTS, a confirmation menu stating, ARE YOU SURE? ALL SETTINGS WILL BE REPLACED BY FACTORY DEFAULTS! displays. If YES is selected, the language selection menu is displayed as the initial setup screen. The default value is NO. If the user selects PREPARE MEDIA, a confirmation menu stating, ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO PREPARE THE MEDIA? ALL DATA WILL BE DESTROYED! displays. The user must select YES to prepare the media. The default value is NO. A PrEP dsc message appears in the seven-segment display on the front panel. The unit prepares new media for use in an Integra unit. All previous recordings on the media are destroyed.

A null modem cable connection is required for remote operations. 25 Installation and Operation Manual 19 APPENDIX D IN CASE OF TROUBLE When a problem arises, review the section of the manual that covers the activity during which the problem occurs. If necessary, consult the troubleshooting table on the following pages. If the problem cannot be resolved, you may have to contact your dealer or the factory. When you call for support, the representative will ask you to provide specific information about the installation. To save time, spend a few minutes getting organized before you pick up the telephone. Before calling your dealer or Factory Technical Support, write down the following information: The serial number of your Integra Digital Time-Lapse Recorder. The make and model of each piece of hardware connected to the Integra. Approximate date of purchase and of installation. The symptoms of the problem, as you have observed them. NOTE: Please do NOT return any product to the factory without first obtaining a Return Authorization (RA) number. Failure to do so can result in a significant delay in processing your repair. To obtain an authorization number, contact Factory Technical Support.

26 20 Integra Digital Time-Lapse Recorder PROBLEM No front panel indicators are lit, fan is not running. No monitor display. No monitor display and a multiplexer is in the system connected to the unit. Video loss message on monitor. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE POSSIBLE CAUSE START-UP PROBLEMS Loose or faulty power cord. Voltage switch not set correctly. Monitor is not connected to the composite video or the S-VIDEO output. Connections between the multiplexer and the unit are not correct. Connections between the monitor and the multiplexer are not correct. Multiplexer is not in the Tape/Play mode. Video source is not connected properly, or is too weak. Video loss message is originating from connected multiplexer. Unit is set for incorrect video signal type. SUGGESTED ACTION Replace with power cord known to operate correctly. Unit may be damaged if the voltage has not been set correctly. Contact dealer. Verify that the monitor output cable is of the proper type and connected to the composite video or S-VIDEO output. Check all connections between the VCR/SVHS input of the multiplexer and the composite video or S-VIDEO output. Check all connections between the monitor out of the multiplexer and the video in of the monitor. Correct the multiplexer mode if necessary. Verify signal of video source is 1 volt peak-to-peak. Check cable integrity. Disconnect unit from multiplexer VCR in and verify that video loss message still displays. Check video input signal selection in SIGNAL/RELA Y OPTIONS matches actual input (composite video or S-VIDEO).

POSSIBLE CAUSE RECORDING PROBLEMS INPUT SOURCE in RECORD OPTIONS is set incorrectly, i.e., OTHER VIDEO when input is a multiplexer. Cameras are in constant motion, or high traffic volume in area, or video signal is noisy. IMAGE PROBLEMS Camera or & white. monitor is black Multiplexer in system is not set to correct field rate or sync connection is faulty. Camera is not mounted properly or random interlace or faulty. I mage quality is poor. Camera is random interlace, low resolution, camera or lens out of adjustment or faulty. SUGGESTED ACTION Match input settings with attached device(s) in on- screen programming. IMAGE RATE in RECORD OPTIONS to a slower setting, i.e. 7.5 IPS vs. 30 IPS. Check quality of video signal source for excess noise. Verify type of video source; match RECORD QUALITY/CAPACITY setting in RECORD OPTIONS with desired number and quality of images. Verify field rate settings in multiplexer manufacturer's guide; check 5-volt logic multiplexer synchronization output at Pin 5 of Alarm/Signal I/O C onnector. Verify type and operation of video source; check mount position. Isolate camera associated with problem image; verify type and troubleshoot adjustment and proper operation.

Camera iris or monitor not adjusted correctly; some cameras not terminated or terminated incorrectly. OPERATIONS PROBLEMS The front panel has been disabled. No disk is full. Disk Time is loaded or the disk is write-protected. set incorrectly. Remote control cable is faulty or incorrectly connected. COMMUNICATIONS OPTIONS settings are incorrect. SUGGESTED ACTION Change setting in RECORD OPTIONS to NORMAL or B EST IMAGES. Refer to instructions under RECORD OPTIONS for recommended setting. Isolate monitor and cameras from unit, follow manufacturer's guide to adjust. Verify correct termination at 75 ohms. Contact the security administrator or the dealer.
