View this in your browser NEWSLETTER ~ JUNE 2018 Returning by popular demand! Jimmy Ogle, renowned for his encyclopedic knowledge of Memphis & Shelby County, will return to speak at Friends' Annual Meeting on June 11. He will present an illustrated talk on Memphis' groundbreaking music history. His previous appearance was among our most popular programs, so come early to snag a good seat.
"Friend"-ly social time begins at 6:00 p.m., and the program at 6:30 p.m. Please invite a friend or family member to attend with you. We love meeting new people and making new friends. Friends' programs are always open to the public. ANNUAL BOOK SALE The 2018 Annual Book sale is history. Friends sincerely appreciates all our members who worked so tirelessly to make the sale a success and all those who came and shopped. Over the five days of the sale, April 18-22, more than 13,300 books were placed back into the community raising $6,496 for Bartlett Library programs and facilities. The estimated 4,500 unsold books were distributed between the Library for pop-up library events; Friends' Little Free Library located on the Burloe bike path; the Binghampton United Methodist mission; and ReStore, Habitat for Humanity's thrift store. BOOK SALES IN THE LIBRARY
Monthly feature sales will be on hiatus during June and July. They will return in August with the semi-annual "Biggest & Best" sale featuring oversized books and especially nice books. Meanwhile, the regular daily book sale is fully stocked with all types of books and magazines for your summer reading enjoyment. COMMUMITY OUTREACH ACTIVITIES Throughout the year, Friends of the Bartlett Library has sought to promote the library and encourage literacy in the community, as well as to share about our organization. We welcome an invitation to speak to groups and interact in community activities. This past year, we have had many such opportunities: September October December Bartlett Festival Bartlett School Librarians Inservice Meeting Bartlett Senior Center Health Fair Barnes and Noble Book Fair
March April May Read Across America - Bartlett Elementary School Bartlett Baptist Church Happy Timers Luncheon Bartlett Chamber of Commerce Business EXPO Leadership Bartlett Bartlett Festival Bartlett Business EXPO Bartlett Baptist Happy Timers Potluck Read Across America SUMMER FUN & LEARNING AT THE LIBRARY For Ages 6 months to Adult
Friends is pleased to sponsor the Read for Your School contest again this year. This program has been an excellent way to encourage children to continue reading and participating in learning activities throughout the summer. In addition, visiting the Bartlett Library becomes a part of their summer-time routine, and the monetary prizes enhance the resources of our Bartlett City Schools libraries for a better Bartlett.
