3 1 General 1.1 Important Information New instruments shall be put into operation in the office and installed on site subsequently. Before using the instrument read the user guide carefully. To clean the enclosure use only mild cleansing agents. The instrument shall be used according to the specifications and regional regulations only. To avoid malfunction or damage of the instrument please only use original parts. Only the manufacturer is allowed to undertake reparations and adaptations Installation, electrical connection, initial setup and maintenance shall be performed only by qualified personnel authorised by the manufacturer. Keep the instrument away from direct sunlight. Observe Ex-restrictions and operational conditions! Do not disassemble the data logger in Ex zones! Operate the data logger on site in conjunction with the protective cover! To avoid electrostatic charge do not rub the protective cover! The rechargeable battery pack as well as the enclosure containing the electronic evaluation components shall be separated by unlocking the snap locks only. Never dismantle the parts in any other way. The enclosure is allowed to be opened out of Ex areas by the manufacturer exclusively for maintenance purposes Rechargeable batteries shall only be replaced in Ex areas. Use the accompanying original battery charger out of Ex areas only Connect the enclosure containing the electronic evaluation components in Ex areas only to a dedicated intrinsically safe rechargeable battery pack. Do not use any other power sources. Never use connection CON 4 (USB connection) in Ex areas. Do not replace the SIM module in CON 6 (SIM card slot) within Ex areas. Connect the original antenna (with or without original 5m extension cable) to connection CON 1 only. NivuLog Rev. 02 as of Page 3 / 12

5 2 Initial Setup 2.1 SIM Card Installation Remove antenna and sensor cable. Uncase the instrument. Remove protective cover as depicted. Press any key briefly (approx. 1 sec.) to prepare the data logger for battery removal. LED goes on during key action Remove the battery as depicted. Press both push buttons while removing. Install the SIM card. Push-Push-System! Observe proper locking! The plugging direction can be seen on the enclosure. Connect the USB cable if required in order to configure the SIM parameters using the DeviceConfig PC software. See following chapters for additional information Use a GPRS enabled SIM card! Observe the cycles (ideally 1kB or less)! See Maintenance Kit manual for gasket and connection maintenance and observe the according measures described therein. Regarding gasket maintenance etc. please observe the measures described in Maintenance Kit. 2.2 Configuration Of SIM Parameters Install DeviceConfig if required Administrative rights required for driver installation! The driver must be re-installed for each new device! Each connected device will be detected by the software automatically. NivuLog Rev. 02 as of Page 5 / 12
6 Enter the GPRS register and configure the SIM parameters. SIM tariff... SIM defaults Overrule... override defaults Service Provider... SIM card provider PIN... PIN code (1234 if deactivated) SIM Lock... locks certain GSM networks MCC... Mobile Country Code MNC... Mobile Network Code Press Save and terminate the USB connections. 2.3 Test Device Communication Create a measurement place in Device 2 Web and assign the NivuLog unit accordingly. Observe proper channel settings already at this stage! Start the ALOHA mode in order to transmit the modifications. See Table of contents for information regarding the user interface Subsequently wire sensors as well as unit and restart ALOHA. See Table of contents for more information on wiring examples and device types Check incoming data using the ALOHA data window. GSM strength and power supply! 2.4 Enclosure And Installation Installation, electric connection, initial setup and maintenance shall be performed by qualified personnel authorised by the manufacturer only. Avoid direct sunlight! The device shall be used according to the respective specifications only. Particularly avoid magnetic or electric fields in the vicinity of the unit. Observe proper installation! Observe existing legal or operational regulations! Incorrect use may cause injuries and/or damage the instruments! Do not operate the NivuLog on site without the protective cover The protective cover must not be rubbed with a cloth due to the risk of electrostatic charge! Do not remove protective cover and measurement cable within Ex zones! In Ex zones the requirements and notes covered by EN :2007 (explosion prevention and protection basic concepts and methodology) and CLC/TR 50404:2003 (avoiding electrostatic charge) shall be adhered to! Do not charge the battery within Ex zones! A typical charging procedure is finished within 10 hours. A new rechargeable battery achieves full capacity after approx. 3 full loading cycles. The capacity decreases with age. Charge and discharge the accumulator completely to avoid this effect. 2.6 User Interface The red status LED automatically indicates the status every 30 sec. (or with each key action) by flashing. The green status LED merely flashes briefly on modem activation. Make sure to have an antenna extension available. Start ALOHA using the magnet. Monitor measurement data via Device 2 Web using WAP, laptop, iphone or similar and adjust antenna position if required.
