1 WOODWIND DIVISION NOTE: 1. Woodwind instruments include flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, alto and tenor saxophone and recorder. 2. All selections are OWN CHOICE. Graded selections are to be chosen from the Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada syllabus. The flute, clarinet and saxophone syllabi contain solos for every grade level. The others skip grades preparatory, 3, 5 and 7. Not all syllabi will have a List C selection. 3. In Age categories performers must be of the prescribed age on December 31 of the year preceding the Festival. Junior refers to participants 10 years and under Intermediate refers to participants years Senior refers to participants ages 15 and over 4. In Grade categories Junior refers to selections at Conservatory Preliminary Level to Level 3 Intermediate refers to selections at Conservatory Levels 4-7 Senior to refers Conservatory Level 8 and over (no minimum age restrictions). 5. All solos require accompaniment unless the work is unaccompanied. 6. Performance by memory is not required for scholarships or awards, but is highly encouraged. Exception: All performances in the Shield Competition MUST be from memory. 7. While students will not be penalized for longer compositions, the suggested maximum length of compositions is 5 minutes for Junior Classes and 10 minutes for Intermediate and Senior Classes. The adjudicator reserves the right to stop performances. 8. To be eligible for consideration for the Shield competition a candidate must perform 2 Senior level solo selections.
