December 2011 Next year s pantomime will be... Forum Leisure in conjunction with On Ya Bike Theatre Company presents The Christmas Pantomime ALADDIN Beauty and the Beast
1 10 Welcome On behalf of everybody at On Ya Bike Theatre Company, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you a warm welcome and hope you enjoy our production of Aladdin. Following the success of last year s community pantomime Cinderella we have had to increase the number of performances to meet the demands of the local schools and public. This is our fourth production at the Wythenshawe Forum, cementing the successful partnership with Serco and the Wythenshawe Forum Trust. We are pleased to announce that a two year sponsorship deal has been agreed between On Ya Bike Theatre Company, Parkway Green Housing Trust and Willow Park Housing Trust. This allows On Ya Bike Theatre Company financial stability and freedom of choice. Manchester City Council, along with Manchester Airport s Community Trust Fund, have also given their support to us so we now have four major organisations that recognise our efforts and commitment to the community, who are all more than happy to support our local theatre company delivering to local people. Our first production was performed at a local church hall in December 2000 and was our own adaptation of A Christmas Carol which was a huge success in the community. At the moment we have just over 25 members, including; a production team of writers, directors, lighting & sound engineers, costume assistants, make up artists, publicity and advertising coordinators, as well as the actors & actresses. Our Christmas pantomimes are written and adapted by Paul Brownsell and Councillor Glynn Evans ready to perform each December. Our 2008 Christmas Pantomime 'Dick Whittington' was a huge success at the time ass it officially became the best selling and most financially profitable Pantomime at the Wythenshawe Forum Hall. However this was exceeded in December 2009 by our community Christmas Pantomime 'Cinderella". Once again this proved to be the most attended and ticket sales were the highest recorded. We would now like to welcome you to the viewing of our 2010 pantomime Aladdin, followed in Spring 2011 by A Murder Mystery And Then There Were None', A Summer Extravaganza Variety Show in June July and then our 2011 pantomime will be Beauty and the Beast. All performances will be performed at the Wythenshawe Forum. As we celebrate our 10th Anniversary year in 2010 we will endeavour to encourage and involve local people of all ages to join us in the capacities of Acting, Production (Sound/ Lighting), Stage Management, Costume and Make Up. Our aim is to encourage local people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved, whilst learning, gaining new skills and growing in confidence and self esteem, as well as being part of a successful team that will produce a high standard of performance. If you are interested in joining On Ya Bike Theatre Company please Paul at: paul.brownsell1@sky.com. Once again thank you for all your support and we hope to see you again at our future productions. May we also wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Best Wishes Glynn & Paul FURTHER DETAILS COMING SOON OUR FORTHCOMING EVENTS FOR 2011
9 2 Director s Notes As Pantomime fever sets in early in the Evans house (Oh yes it does!), Paul and I started meeting early in the year to start putting pen to paper on Aladdin, then Gemma was introduced to bring new young ideas. How rewarding it all becomes when it arrives at this stage. I hope you enjoy the performance and that you all have as much fun watching as we have had throughout rehearsals. We have really enjoyed the past few months seeing the script come to life and I would like to thank all the cast for their hard work and enthusiasm. Special thanks also go out to the people who the public don t manage to see working hard backstage; the lighting and sound technicians, dance teachers, stage management team, costume mistresses, make up artist and a very special thanks to Val Calder and the wonderful staff at the Forum for their help and assistance. Best Wishes Glynn Evans A Special Thank You To Our Sponsors & Supporters From ALL OF US here at On Ya Bike Theatre Company, we would like to thank the above sponsors for all their support and belief in what we strive to achieve. A big thank you also to the Wythenshawe Forum Trust, Val Calder and the staff who have made us very welcome provide us with great help and support.

Paul Brownsell Paul is the founder of On Ya Bike Theatre Company and has been responsible for bringing finances through funding over the past nine and a half years. He has performed a variety of roles in productions of Oliver, Ripping Yarns, and A Month of Sundays, but undoubtedly Paul will always be remembered for his portrayal of the Dames in our pantomimes. Due to unforeseen circumstances, once again the dress comes out for the role of Widow Washy. Paul co writes our plays with Glynn and also welcomed the arrival of Gemma to the creative team. Having gained his degree in Writing in July 2009, Paul s time is now balanced between drama and his family; Cameron 8, Georgia 4 and latest arrival Baby Max. Paul s eldest son Jonathan has also starred in various productions. Glynn Evans (Our extremely senior member) Glynn officially opened On Ya Bike Theatre Company in December 2000 and was so impressed by the vision of the group that he decided to join in himself. He has been a tower of strength both on and off the stage, co writing with Paul and encouraging Gemma to join the team. Glynn has also directed several productions and indeed has put his name on this production of Aladdin. Always the uplifting influence during rehearsals, (he even learnt his lines one year) his ability to learn his lines for pantomime is next to none (Oh sorry is none). Although he confesses to love pantomime, as the script is flexible, even to the point of being able to ad lib. Off the stage, he has been tremendous support and influential in the planning of On Ya Bike Theatre Company, not only hitting their targets but striving to exceed all expectations. Glynn is a true ambassador to us all. Our New Publicity Coordinator After the success of our past shows, we decided to create a programme for our current and upcoming shows. After seeing his work, we decided to offer local lad Chris Oatway the opportunity and after he impressed us with his speedy production of two adverts for our Murder Mystery and Summer Extravaganza Variety Show, we decided he was the right man for the job and asked him if he could produce the programme too. Chris has lived in Wythenshawe all his life and has since been quite active in the local community. He is very proud to be involved with On Ya Bike Theatre Company as he also has past experience with publicity and theatre. He hopes you like the programme. Why Not Get Involved? If you feel that you could contribute your time and skills to the production of our shows, then why not act upon it. We are always looking for local people to get involved with On Ya Bike Theatre Company, not just treading the boards, but backstage, publicising our name and reputation and even writing new plays. If you feel that you have a flair for performing and entertaining the public, then contact: paul.brownsell1@sky.com 7 Aladdin Synopsis A thousand years ago, Badbanana the Great trapped the Queen of Good Fortune into the magic lamp. This meant that no good would come to the world, meaning that Badbanana could rule the world and pass down the nasty spell to his ancestors. Now the Nasty Avabanana wants to get the magic lamp so he can keep the Queen of Good Fortune trapped for another 1,000 years. The only person to stop him from doing that and finding the lamp is The Chosen One. However the Chosen One cannot do it alone he needs the help of you. `The Audience. After much deliberation the winner was announced as Victoria Bradburn, Year 7 from Newall Green High School. 4
Cast Gemma Stott Aladdin Nicknamed Peggy after taking her work experience at Pontins, Gemma still has a slight desire to return to be a Blue Coat at some point. She joined us in 2008 during our production of Dick Whittington. She was released from school to gain community theatre experience and has stayed with us since. Gemma has recently took on some of our lead roles, such as; Artful Dodger in Oliver and also the lead role of in last year s pantomime Cinderella. Since joining, she has proved to be such a versatile performer with an excellent singing voice to compliment her good dancing and acting skills. Her pleasant personality is loved by us all and she is very keen in showing a lot of enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. Gemma has also joined Paul and Glynn in co writing and has proved to have a true, valid input. She iscurrently in her second year of studies at Cheadle College studying Drama and Performing Arts. Rochelle Lonergan Mary Fairy Godmother/Queenie the Genie A product from the early days of the original Wythenshawe Youth Theatre, Rochelle has a distinguished singing voice that took her to the lead role in the Sound of Music. After studying Performing Arts at City College Manchester, she achieved a BTEC National Diploma. Her excellent versatility compliments her vast array of acting talents. Rochelle is an excellent role model for newcomers, has a great sense of humour and is always on hand to assist with the learning of lines and character building. We are glad that Rochelle has recently rejoined us as we have missed her natural stage presence. Francis Lee Dangerous Dave Fran was Paul s first port of call when On Ya Bike Theatre Company was formed. A valued member of the group who has enjoyed a variety of roles ranging from Scrooge to Bill Sykes, Fran enjoys comedies and thrives on the visual roles written for his style of comedy, (the ones that pantomime cries out for) such as Mopand and Nosewart. Dangerous Dave is a license for Fran to produce another first class role. With his versatility and excellent methods of character building, he portrays very believable characters who we can all relate to. Fran also has vast experience of both directing and teaching. He is a perfectionist and always pushes himself to the limit, epitomising Method acting and setting his standards high to make his characters believable. His sense of humour generates caution amongst the rest of us as we never know what he has planned. He always encourages those around him throughout both rehearsals and performances. Holly Smith Princess Jasmine Holly is only young, yet she seems to have been around forever. Although this is her first major role, she has starred in many roles over the years always delivering a true and honest performance. She is a shy person and has a good sense of humour that has been the brunt and provider of many pranks. Her latest one was putting jelly in Cinderella s slipper. Holly always strives for perfection and her commitment, dedication and enthusiasm are a credit to her. She is also an excellent role model. 5 Charlotte Harris Wendy Watchit Another young new member to our group, Charlotte s enthusiasm and sense of humour has captured us all. There have been some very magical moments during rehearsals with Charlotte s facial expression whilst creating Wendy Watchit. We all believe Charlotte has found her natural flair being on stage. She has a very bright future in acting if she chooses to follow that option as at the first rehearsal Charlotte immediately brought her character to life to the point at which none of us know what to expect from Wendy Watchit, but we know we are all guaranteed a true dedicated and comical performance from Charlotte. Steve Stock Sultan Steve joined us last year playing the role of Baron Hardup in Cinderella. A member of the I d love a go at that brigade, he is a very popular person who everyone cares for. He is very reliable and very funny in rehearsals (unlike his jokes) and has a phone full of jokes, always good for a laugh. Steve is gaining experience and stage craft with every performance. He truly is a great guy to have around, always willing to learn and have a go. He has really made the role of the Sultan his own, adding his only bits of humour. We re all confident his ideas and stage contributions will be well received. Lianne Lauder Grundy Mrs. Golightly One of our longest serving members, joining when she was just sixteen, straight from the Wythenshawe Youth Theatre where she first met Glynn and Paul, Lianne is an active and enthusiastic member of the cast. She has performed a wide range of roles and performances and has performed numerous community performances including scenarios helping raise awareness within multicultural communities. Her most challenging, yet certainly most rewarding role, is being mum to daughter Lily Ann Rose who is approaching her first birthday. Lianne persuaded Glynn to re introduce one of her favourite characters to the show. Mrs Golightly, who Lianne first portrayed when she was thirteen. She is an ideal role model and her dedication and commitment are admired by all. Her pleasant personality makes her very popular with everyone and although we all have to be on our toes Lianne loves playing practical jokes. WYTHENSHAWE WORLD WOULD LIKE TO WISH ON YA BIKE THEATRE COMPANY ALL THE BEST FOR THEIR 2010 PANTOMIME ALADDIN AND HOPE YOU ENJOY THE SHOW 6
