1 7 th GRADE SUMMER READING CENTRAL JUNIOR HIGH We are excited for your transition to 7 th grade next year! To help you prepare for the 7 th grade Language Arts, we have created a summer reading program to jumpstart the school year. Who? ALL incoming Central Junior High 7 th grade students. What? Read at least FOUR books this summer and then keep reading. We ask that EVERY student read Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. Choose ONE book from the current Sequoyah young adult list. Then read two books of your own choosing. There are two articles for you and your parents to read that show the research why it is beneficial for you to read FOUR books over the summer. There is a suggested list of books if you can t find one that you love. PLEASE DON T READ A BOOK THAT YOU HAVE READ BEFORE!! When? You will be required to complete an assignment on the books you read. Information will be given to you when school starts. So just read! Where? Books can be checked out from the Moore Public Library, or you may purchase your own copy from any book store. Purchasing your own copy is suggested but not required. It would be beneficial if you purchased Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. We will be doing a unit on this book at the beginning of the year so it will be helpful to have your own book. We will NOT be reading the entire book in class, but we will be doing lessons from portions of the book so it will be helpful to have a copy of your own book. Why? Reading over the summer will allow you to keep your mind sharp and be more successful in all of your classes as you begin junior high.
