Write the definition Story Summary Elements of Fiction Setting: The setting is the time and place of a story. The setting can include the time frame, such as the past, present or future, and the place such as a state or planet. Sometimes the place is very large such as an ocean or outer space. Sometimes it is small like a room in a house. The setting helps to create the atmosphere in the story.
8 Describe the setting of your book. Plot: The plot is the main storyline of the book. The plot includes five pieces: The introduction, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution. The introduction is where the author sets up and explains the conflict. The climax is the exciting part where the story is leading up to. The resolution is the ending or what happens after the climax takes place. Describe the plot of your book. In the beginning: In the middle:

10 Conflict Conflict is a struggle that the main character experiences. Conflict can be a physical fight or an argument with another character, but it doesn t have to be. The conflict can be any force that is going against the main character including nature, others people s beliefs, or the character s own weaknesses. Describe the conflict in your book. Theme The theme of the story is the message or meaning behind the story. The theme of the book is different from the plot. Plot is what the characters do, but the theme is the lesson or moral behind the plot. Some common examples of themes are: true love, overcoming evil, man vs. nature, death is part of the circle of life, overcoming adversity, sacrifices bring rewards. Describe the theme in your book. Write a new ending!
11 Pretend that you are the author of the book. What other ways could this book have ended? Use your imagination to write a different ending to the book.
