2 Fiscal Year 2013 The Modern Assyrian Research Archive Foundation (MARA Foundation) was established in June MARA was initiated in 2008 and the work began in Then as a project of the Assyrian Youth Federation of Sweden and since the summer of 2011 as an independent foundation. During this short time period, we have succeeded in establishing one of the largest physical and digital archive focusing on the Assyrian cultural heritage in modern times. We have established a global network and aided scientists and students by contributing source material resulting in academic publications. Material has been gathered from many different countries, libraries, individuals, organizations and churches. We are continuously working to digitize, maintain, cataloging and make available material for researches, students and the public. MARA s ongoing challenge is to find new tools and ways to make the material available online and to market itself on websites and social media. Obtaining material is ongoing. Our efforts to acquire material cotinues, there s a lot out there that we do not have or know about. Our struggle to make ourselves visible and seek funds for our work is of primary concern. It is only with your help and support that we will be able to attain our gouls. Our work is both long term and permanent. Our goal and our ambitions are high ranking. MARA Foundation March 2014 About MARA The MARA Foundation is a non-political and nonreligious independent organization with operations covering the world. Our purpose is to seek funds to finance the work of collecting and making available source material regarding Assyrians in the modern era. Simply stated, as a minority without a state, the MARA Foundation is documenting the legacy of modern Assyrians. The source material consists of books, magazines, newspapers, documents, articles, images, sound and video recordings and manuscripts. The material is collected from sources such as Assyrian individuals and organizations, universities, archives and libraries. The collected material is archived and made available online (unless prohibited by copyright laws) and in physical form at the MARA Foundation archive and library. 3 Acquisition of Material During this operational period, MARA has acquired and added important material to its collections. The documents will provide knowledge and information about different events in history of the Assyrian people.
