1 Descendants of Barton Waite and Sarah Elizabeth Mendenhall 1. Barton 1 Waite, born /75 in Elizabethtown, Essex, NY; died 1800 in Potsdam, St. Lawrence, NY, son of Samuel Waite and Ann Gardner. He married 2 in 1784 in Shoreham, Addiosn, VT Sarah Elizabeth Mendenhall, born 1765 in Rhode Island; died 23 Feb 1836 in Huron Co., OH. Census 3 Shoreham, Addison, VT (1800). Barton bought bought Lot #76 in 1792 consisting of 100 acres. This he sold in 1800 to his father Samuel for $500. See Liber 2 pg 35 and Liber 2 pg 460. Barton was residing at Shoreham, VT in JC Wait says he went to Elizabethtown, Essex, NY but census records fail to show him there. The 1816 Tax List for Lorain Co., OH lists a Barton Wait as a resident there. (EOT) 1810 and 1820 census' are needed for confirmation. Children of Barton Waite and Sarah Elizabeth Mendenhall were as follows: 2 i Sarah 2 Waite, born /90. Notes: IGI claims a daughter born to Barton at Shoreham Addison VT. + 3 ii Anne 2 Waite. + 4 iii Benjamin 2 Waite. + 5 iv Barton J. 2 Waite. + 6 v Jared C 2 Waite. 7 vi Freeman 2 Waite, born He married on 15 Dec 1833 in Ohio Sarah Hedge. 8 vii Anna 2 Waite, born Generation 2 3. Anne 2 Waite (Barton 1 ), born /90. She married on 20 Jan 1812 in Shoreham, Addison, VT, David Boyden. EWT identifies the daughter b as the Anna who m. David Boyden at Shorham Addison VT. Per an unidentified source, Jared "also had two daughters one of whom was no doubt Anna Wait who m. David Boyden." Children of Anne Waite and David Boyden were as follows: 9 i Isaac Chauncy 3 Boyden, born 11 Apr 1813 in Richmond, Richmond, NY. 10 ii Philanda 3 Boyden, born 1814 in Richmond, Richmond, NY. 11 iii William W. 3 Boyden, born 1816 in Elizabethtown, Hardin, Ky. 12 iv Orville Prescott 3 Boyden, born 1819 in Elizabethtown, Hardin, Ky. 13 v Ranson David 3 Boyden, born 1824 in Washington, Davis, In. 14 vi Mary Jane 3 Boyden, born 1826 in Washington, Davis, In. 15 vii Philo Quincy 3 Boyden, born 4 Jan 1829 in Washington, Davis, In. 16 viii Francis Marion 3 Boyden, born 12 Dec 1833 in Washington, Davis, In. 17 ix Myron Jasper 3 Boyden, born 13 Mar 1836 in Washington, Davis, IN. 1 USC1800 Shoreham, Addison, Vermont, BARK - Records of Sarah Barksdale, barksy@bellatlantic.net. 3 USC1800 Shoreham, Addison, Vermont, 23. 2 Descendants of Barton Waite page 2 4. Benjamin 2 Waite (Barton 1 ), born He married on 1 Sep 1831 in Loraine Co., OH Thirza Powers. My information has Benjamin Wait son of Barton (abt 1765) as having removed to Canada before One of his sons, Jencks, appears on Lorain Co. tax list in (WRI) Children of Benjamin Waite and Thirza Powers were as follows: 18 i Jencks 3 Waite. Other events: Tax 8 Lorain Co., OH (1816). 5. Barton J. 2 Waite (Barton 1 ), born 9, 10, possibly in Ohio; died 1862/70 in Calamus, Dodge, WI. He married in 1820 in Ohio Susanna [Clark], born 12 possibly in Vermont; died 13 before1870 in soon after returning to Ohio. Census 14 Carlisle, Lorain, VT (1830). Census 15 Londonderry, Windham, VT (1830). According to someone posting on FamilySearch.com, Gardner was apparently also known as George or Gardiner. A George Waite of the correct age is listed in the 1850 census in Watertown. I believe that this is my Gardner. Either the name was changed latter or misspelled in the census. Several people who are related to Gardener's sibling Nelson have contacted me and confirmed that the list of siblings below corresponds to information that they also have. They had never seen the full list although they have known that the family was about 18 children in toto. (BARK) There was a Barton Wait in 1820 census for Carlisle Twp./Elyria Twp...who was b with a male in the family b who I think was Truman Waite b. 26 jan Barton's wife was susanna b. 18= The 1830 census and deed records list them on west Ridge Road, 3/4 of a mile north of Butternut Road on the east side census says male b , 1801, 1825 and self two females , Truman was given a job on the W. Ridge farm in 1825 when Philo Murray owned section 11 farm. The guardianship papers are in Book A pg. 277 when Truman was age 14. Benjamin Waite married Thursi Goodell or Powers 1 Sep 1831 in Loraine County. Ben might be a son of Barton or Tom Sr. When Truman grew up I guess he bought the Section 11 farm from Murray as he sold it in 1832 to Ben and wife Thersa... (rest of page is missing...i believe this is the same Barton the correspondent was talking about...but who was Truman?) Children of Barton J. Waite and Susanna [Clark] were as follows: 19 i Edward 3 Waite, born 16 2 Feb ii John 3 Waite, born Sep iii Nelson Christopher 3 Waite. 22 iv Lydia 3 Waite, born Apr v Melissa 3 Waite vi Barton Carter 3 Waite. 7 Ibid., 23, " /1800.". 8 WRI - Records of Bonnie Writing, bonbobw@cox-internet.com. 9 RIE - Records of Greg Riesen, riesen@maqs.net. 10 WRI - Records of Bonnie Writing, bonbobw@cox-internet.com. 11 USC1800 Shoreham, Addison, Vermont, 23.
