3 SONSIK PLACE INFORMATION SONSIK place information for the month series is the way of giving information about places popular for visiting in South Korea. In this series we provide information about a particular place every month. Most of the time we are busy in study and work, but sometime we want to hang out with our friends and family to some beautiful places for refreshment. In the other hand, sometimes our family or friends visit Korea. At that time, many students might have realized that searching information from the internet may not be sufficient or have some difficulties because most of the information about places are in Korean language and are difficult to search in the internet. Also, we may not have good information about important and famous tourist places of the country we are living in. So, SONSIK has made an effort to initiate provide information about a beautiful place in South Korea in a collective and simplified way every month. This series of information is useful for all the foreigners in Korea willing to go out for a visit. This series of SONSIK place information for the month was initiated in November, Until February 2018 we have provided information about 4 different places in South Korea and this will be done every month in days to come. From November to February, we gave information about Gangcheonsan County Park ( 강천산군립공원 ), MUIDO and SOMUIDO BEACH, Vivaldi Park Ski World and Seoul Innovation Park respectively. 4 SONSIK EDUCATIONAL TOUR As a SONSIK regional program, SONSIK 14 th Executive Committee organized the SONSIK Educational Tour in Region 4 (Gyeongsanbukdo/nam-do) in collaboration with Korea Nepal Association (dated Dec.31, 2017 at Gongju ( 공주, Chungcheong province) and Buyeo ( 부여, Chungcheonnam-do). SONSIK Vice President Mr. Milan Gautam and President of Korea Nepal Association Mr. Chang Byeong Ho coordinated this program. SONSIK has been organizing Educational tour since past few years in order to provide first hand information and several ideas about Korea s developments and its cultural as well as historical heritages. Around 40 participants from different universities attended the Educational Tour program. The participants were very excited and participated in the Educational tour with great joy and fun. During the tour, participants were taken to two different places: Gongjustate of Baekje s ancient tombs and Buyeo. Gongju, which had been the capital of the kingdom of Baekje from 475 to 538 and the investigation of Baekje s ancient tombs, began around the 1920s and systematic investigation began from 1970s. Ancient tombs of Baekje changed across hundreds of years, such as pit tombs, jar tombs, stone-mound tombs, stone-lined tombs, stone-chamber tombs, and stone brick chamber tombs. Buyeo was the site of the Baekje kingdom's last capital, Sabi. The capital was moved there from Gongju in AD 538, and six kings ruled as the dynasty flourished until it was destroyed by the combined forces of Shilla and the Tang (of China) in AD 660.

5 KISU WINTER WOKSHOP Like previous years, KISU (Korean International Students Union) organized winter Workshop on 23rd -24th December It was held in Gangneung, Gangwon-do place where winter Olympics was going to be held(9-25 Feb. 2018). 200 international students from 36 different countries participated in the Workshop. SONSIK was represented by 17 Nepalese Students with active participation. Pickup was on 23rd December morning from the Sports Complex station. It was three hour bus ride to the Gangneung-si in Gangwon-do. SONSIK member Arun Gupta was awarded the best volunteer award representing Nepali students in Korea.

6 KISU WORKSHOP.. The event consisted of Opening Ceremony, Lecture by seniors about applying and availability of jobs in Korea as a foreign student. International students were divided into many teams. Some Korean games were played to acquaint with foreign students present in the event. The events were enjoyable and many gifts were distributed. Following dinner, students were assigned rooms. It was a good opportunity to know about people from different country and exchange pleasantries. Next morning the participants had a breakfast with all the team and moved to the sea beach( Sightseeing of winter sea). The participants then took a bus to Ojukcheon, where the pictures embedded in 5000Krw could be seen. The visit was entertaining as well as informative. On the way we could view many Pyeongchang Olympic mascot. As it was raining the remaining visits were cancelled and while returning it snowed heavily and it was nice experience for all the participants to travel in a group with friends from different nationalities. Finally it was good opportunity to learn skiing. It was a sweet memory and will be reminded forever. Overall, it was a successful event in terms of sharing the activities organized by SONSIK and knowing students from different countries and activities organized by them in South Korea.

7 SONSIK INSPIRATIONAL VIDEO SONSIK 14 th EC is making inspirational videos concerning issues related with the students. The videos are made with special focus in the problems faced by students in studies as well as other aspects of living in Korea. We have found that the students in Nepal who wish to pursue higher education in Korea and the new students who have come to Korea for their higher education lack information regarding the education and life in Korea. The main objective of these videos is to help the students empower with knowledge to overcome the challenges and obstacles faced by the students in South Korea and provide ideas for ways to grab several opportunities available Till now we have already launched 3 episodes, concerned with the student problems. 1 st episode was regarding the Pharmacy education in South Korea, the remaining two were focused on Challenges and Opportunities for undergraduate level students and Guidance for them. We plan to upload a new inspirational and informative video every month. Please subscribe to SONSIK you tube channel for remaining updated.

11 PARTICIPANTS SES Along with participation in Educational Seminar, participants also took part in different extra activities like: University tour, cultural program and poetry.

12 SONSIK MEETING WITH WONBULGYO & SAMDONG INTERNATIONAL A meeting between SONSIK President along with H.E. Ambassador of Nepal Mr. Arjun Jung Bahadur Singh and head of Wonbulgyo, Samdong International was held on 11 th February Delegates of Wonkwang university and President of International student association of Wonkwang University were also present in the meeting. The meeting was important and successful in sharing the activities carried out by SONSIK in collaboration of Nepalese Embassy for the betterment of Nepalese students in South Korea. A discussion on possible programs that could be organized and collaboration between SONSIK, Nepalese Embassy and Wonbulgyo was also held. The meeting was vended on Head office of Wonbulgyo.
