2 Course/Module description: The course will focus on paradigmatic changes in the understanding and practice of theatre as expressed in philosophical theories from Plato to current Performance theories. Course/Module aims: To encounter and understand theoretical texts on theatre; to understand the connection between these theories and changes in theatre practice in various periods of Western theatre history; to uncover central and recurring questions and themes among theatre theorists from Plato until today. Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: To understand the central theories connected to theatre and their importance to the development of the medium. Attendance requirements(%): 80% Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Texts must be read before each meeting. Class discussions and screened examples from plays and performances.
