The Ba Gua, an arrangement of eight trigrams and a center, serves as a map to match various components of your life with the corresponding areas in your physical world. This can be placed over the shape of a lot, the floor plan of a house or an individual room. 4

5 The main entry point is always located at the bottom of the ba gau. So you would overlay the ba gau over a room or floor plan and see that the door would either be in the knowledge and wisdom section, career section, or travel and helpful people section. The back left hand side of a room is always the wealth and prosperity area when standing in the doorway looking into a room. This also means that the back right area of a room is the area associated with love and relationships. Use the diagram below to evaluate the rooms in your home. What do you have in your wealth areas? What objects do you have placed in your love and relationship areas of your bedroom? Now's not the time to run around purchasing items or rearranging what you have. Just stop and think about what these objects mean. Do they bring you joy, happiness? Could you take a few minutes to simply clean out each space, getting rid of items you don't need or use? 6 Feng Shui Quick-Start Step #3 Increase the energy that surrounds your home. A home that is clean and well cared for on the outside creates a lasting impression. The trees, shrubs, and flowers should be thriving and well trimmed. The path leading up to your home must be easily accessible. Take a few hours out of a weekend afternoon to clear away bicycles, trash, garbage bins, dead plants, newspapers, water bottles, and anything broken. The addition of potted flowers or plants can add a nice touch to the exterior. If that may not be an option, you could add a wreath to your front door. Feng Shui Quick-Start Step #4 Increase your income opportunities and possibilities. The entrance to your home is considered the mouth of chi, the main path by which energy enters and leaves your home. For this reason, it profoundly affects the wealth and opportunities that come into your home for you and any other residents. The amount of healthy, living energy you can bring in through the front door makes a huge difference in the overall Feng Shui of your space. And there's an easy change you can make -- it will take about 5 minutes in most homes or apartments -- that will immediately increase your opportunities and permit more positive chi into your home. What is it? Make sure you can open your front door at least 90 degrees without anything blocking it from opening. That means no coats hanging behind the door, bulky purses on the doorknob, or shoes stored behind the door. Clearing this space so your door can open fully means you are able to receive all the positive benefits, opportunities and possibilities that come into your life. 6

7 Feng Shui Quick-Start Step #5 Transform your house or apartment into a place you love to come home to. Stand at the front door looking into your home, and evaluate how it looks and feels: What are the first things you see? What does the energy feel like? Does your home welcome and embrace you when you enter? Does your space feel energetically alive or does it feel like a cold winter day? The first step is to create a clear, open and beautiful entrance for energy to move through and to circulate in your home. If possible, place some live plants or flowers in view of your front door. High-quality silk flowers can also be used. This addition of life chi makes the space feel nourishing, alive and comfortable. You can also add photos, artwork, or other items that bring joy into your life. Don't show bills, piles of papers, or other items that may subconsciously add to your stress when you first walk in the door. Feng Shui Quick-Start Step #6 Feng Shui the most important room in your home. The master bedroom should be a place that encourages rejuvenation, serenity, and intimacy. A beautiful bedroom can renew your spirit and create harmony at the start and finish of each day. The bedroom provides a place to rest, revitalize, and reflect as well as communicate and encourage romance with a companion. It should be a nourishing sanctuary. 7

8 Take a few minutes and remove computers, work projects, and bills from the bedroom. If you live in a small space and need to store your computer in your bedroom, put up a screen of some sort or store the computer in an enclosed armoir so you can't see it at night. Treadmills, exercise bikes and other electronic equipment in the master bedroom can also be detrimental to your health, fertility, relationship and quality of sleep. For good Feng Shui, avoid placing electronics or exercise equipment in the bedroom. For sound sleep, keep only a minimum number of books near your bedside. To encourage intimacy, remove family photos or photos of children from the bedroom and display loving pictures of you and your companion. Add symbols of positive relationships with two people rather than artwork or photos that show only one person. The area under your bed should be empty and allow air to circulate. If you do have to store items under your bed, keep it limited to bed linens. No weapons or sharp metal objects should be stored under the bed, as this can cause health related issues. Once you have created a healthy bedroom, you can add plants, flowers and light to harmonize the environment. If you d like, place a live plant or fresh cut flowers in the back left for money and in the back right of the room for love. Feng Shui Quick-Start Step #7 The master bedroom is the most important room in your home. It falls into place that your bed is the area most connected to your personal energy. Therefore, it's important to spend some time creating a sense of stability in and around your bed for you and your partner (or, if you're single, a potential partner!) First, make sure your headboard is firmly attached to the bed frame. Choose a bed that has a headboard firmly attached to the bed frame. 8

9 The headboard represents stability and support in your life. It creates a firm backing and protection to your head as you sleep. Solid wood headboards are the best since they are heavy and bring in the energy of trees. If you have a metal or wrought-iron headboard or one with open slats, you can weave silk ribbon, garlands, or faux vines, or some other attractive trim around the slats to soften and warm the energy. Consider placing matching nightstands with matching table lamps on each side of your bed. This will enhance your relationship and increase the support you feel in your relationship or it can encourage an invitation for a new companion if you re not currently seeing anyone. Feng Shui Quick-Start Step #8 Place your bed in the command position. The final step in using Feng Shui in your bedroom relates to your bed position. This might require taking an afternoon to move around some bedroom furniture to find a good fit, but the positive effects you experience as a result of this important step will make it well worthwhile. Referring to the diagrams below, move your bed to the command position of your room. This is a power position that provides a clear view of the door, prevents surprises, and gives you greater psychological control of your environment. The command position is located in the opposite corner of the entrance. There are 3 options for the command position as shown in the drawing. Avoid placing your bed in direct line with the door of the bedroom as this can cause health problems and prevent a good night's sleep. 9

10 Feng Shui Quick-Start Step #9 Increase your income dramatically with this simple step that takes just minutes! In Feng Shui terms, the stove is extremely important in the influence on our public life, our career, recognition, and wealth. Keep your stove clean and well appointed. Make sure all the burners work. Make sure you use your stove frequently, cooking at home whenever you can. This has several practical and Feng Shui benefits: You'll save money on expensive restaurant meals or take out, you'll eat healthier as a result of preparing your own, fresh-cooked food, and you'll energize this important area of your home for greater success in your career, fame, and a solid reputation. Make use of each burner on your stove as often as possible, rotating their use if you only cook one or two dishes at a time. The burners of your stove represent money. Add mirrors behind and also to the side of the stove to symbolically double your wealth. Feng Shui Quick Start Step #10 Encourage positive energy and wealth in your home. Add centerpieces incorporating fresh flowers, plants or bowls of fresh fruit to create positive dining room table energy. You can also use these items on your kitchen counter tops to soften the corners. Bowls of fresh fruit represent opulence, wealth and health. Always make sure to replace fresh flowers at the first signs of wilting or dying. 10

11 Feng Shui Quick Start Step #11 Use live plants around your home or apartment to conduct living chi through the space. You can use plants in corners that don't seem to get a lot of activity and become a gathering place for household clutter, in long hallways to slow the flow of rushing chi, and anywhere you feel would benefit from more life energy. Plants in the bathroom can help turn the space into a sanctuary and minimize any negative chi in this room. A plant above the toilet bowl can particularly help bring good fortune. You can also grow plants in flower boxes, or grow fresh herbs, in a small windowsill garden. In Feng Shui, lush, round leafed plants are best. Avoid desert plants, cactus, etc. Some good Feng Shui plants include peace lily, jade plant, money tree, and bamboo. If you don't have a green thumb and plants don't seem to survive for you, beautiful, realistic-looking silk plants can serve the same purpose. Feng Shui Quick Start Step #12 Feng Shui your career -- in your home office or at your workplace. Align your desk in the command position, as shown above, and hang an inspiring picture across from it. Avoid views of mountains, as these can lead to a sense of feeling blocked. Beautiful seascapes or lush greenery, or even photos of people in your profession that you admire, can inspire and energize you. If your desk must face a wall, hang a mirror in front of you to feel as though you can move forward. You ll be able to see what is happening behind you, so you don't feel under attack at work. 11

12 Keep the area under your feet clean so you have plenty of room to stretch out comfortably. Avoid placing heavy objects, such as bookshelves filled with books, in areas above your head. This can lead to a feeling of workplace stress or added weight on your shoulders, a sense of feeling weighed down. Your desk and desk chair should be the best you can afford or obtain. A desk chair should have solid armrests, and a solid back, and be made of comfortable, luxurious material, whether that is leather or something else that appeals to you. Desks should be solid wood or metal, not glass. Have you ever looked in the office of a CEO? The top people in a company usually have the nicest office furniture, with large, elegant leather chairs that exude a sense of command and luxury. If you have a choice, you should always sit in a chair that describes the position you want to be in -- not necessarily where you are now in your company or business.
