DALET: LEGAL NOTICE AND PROMO 1- PROMO 2 IDENTIFICATION: YOU RE LISTENING TO CBC RADIO 3- Program theme music (fast-paced)... Hello, everyone. I m (host). Welcome to ALL THAT JAZZ!, your weekly radio rendezvous. Here are today s stories : - Anchoring a news broadcast must have its ups and downs. Our Headhunter has the story. - We ve got a quiz to test your knowledge about history. - And our arts reporter will enlighten us on the CBC s Searchlight. And here with me, of course, my faithful sidekick, (Group applause) Evening, (host). Yes, yes, for our 600th show, we have a big crowd here in the studio with us. Our group comes from (city/town). Is that right? HEAD OF GROUP (Improvised response. Include name of school and group number). Well, thanks so much for being here. You ll bring even more energy to the studio!!! You re certainly as peppy as ever, (sidekick)! And we re off! Have a great show, everyone! (Group applause) DALET: BUMPER «SEARCHLIGHT» MUSIC : SEARCHLIGHT Have you ever heard of CBC s Searchlight? It s a CBC Music initiative to find new Canadian talent online. This year, the winner gets $46,000 in Grand Prize package, a showcase slot at the CBC Music Festival, and a professional recording session! Our arts reporter (arts reporter) has more details about this amazing program. ARTS REPORTER Each year, CBC Music kicks off a hunt for Canada s best new artist, spanning genres and regions, and creating a massive showcase for talent in this country. In 2015 alone, over three thousand acts tried their luck. This edition s winner is a Halifax hip-hop singer-songwriter named Aquakultre, who submitted their song Sure The way it works is, anyone who s Canadian can

enter by creating a page for themselves on CBC Music and then posting their song or video on the site. The singer or band wins all those great prizes (host) mentioned, and audiences can also win some great prizes simply by voting. Do you think you have what it takes to be Canada s best new artist? It s free, so you have nothing to lose! You can also watch the video for this year s winning song, Sure on the CBC Music site or YouTube. Here s a teaser (host). DVD : TEASER (1:00) TEASER: : «Sure» Wow, such a great track (arts reporter). I ll include it in my next playlist for sure! DALET: FOOD REPORT FOOD REPORT Hi (food reporter), today you have a story for us about a group that works toward social integration by pairing people living with various physical and intellectual challenges. FOOD REPORTER: Yes, as you say, we re talking about people living with mild cognitive impairment, a learning disability, or who are on the autism spectrum, who are paired with food-services professionals at Jarry Deuxième Café Bistro. This community group works to help these people with social and occupational integration. The various restaurant industry trades depend on efficiency, speed, thoroughness, and compliance with a set of standards. This particular social and occupational integration activity goes somewhat against the grain, as it offers mentoring by short- or long-term pairings of workers with these special-needs populations. And special tools and working methods have been developed to address the particular tasks that need to be accomplished. Can you give us some examples? FOOD REPORTER: In food services, employees have to work very fast and are under a lot of pressure, which means workers may be less patient and tolerant with colleagues living with permanent disabilities. Here, the team receives awareness training on the special needs of participants, which helps the learning process and motivates them to go further. For example, pictograms are used in recipe directions. To avoid mistakes, there s a picture of a huge salt shaker on the salt container, so that it isn t confused with the sugar. Also, some recipes are simplified and broken down in minute detail, with pictograms for every step. The goal is to help the participants be as independent as possible, even though they may not know how to read and write.

The mentors have also learned to rethink conventions and standards to adapt to the community and make a positive contribution to the participants occupational integration. What a beautiful message. Now, for those who may be interested, besides operating a catering service, Jarry Deuxième Café Bistro also sells frozen prepared meals at low cost and with a smile! DALET : BUMPER BUMPER For our special report today, we go live to our news team stunt performer. In a few minutes, we ll hear him/her skydive from a helicopter. The trick will be landing in the CBC parking lot. Hi there, (stunt performer), can you hear me? STUNT PERFORMER Hey!! Listen, the wind is blowing at eighty kilometres an hour up here. My safety hook s barely holding! Are the camera crews and reporters ready on the ground? STUNT PERFORMER Yeah, they re all on the roof of Maison de Radio-Canada! We ll be posting the footage tomorrow on the program website! (Group will do the countdown together in studio.) Can I get a studio countdown everyone, please? goooooo! What s going on, (stunt performer), haven t you jumped yet? STUNT PERFORMER Oops, forgot to unfasten my safety hook... OK, here goes! (Lots of noise, screams of horror, and a thud) DALET : MAN JUMPING! MAN JUMPING Oh, no! (stunt performer), are you OK? (SILENCE) Oh my gosh, I think that s the only jump (stunt performer) our news team stunt performer will be doing tonight!! Please don t try this at home, kids!

DALET: SPORTS BUMPER SPORTS BUMPER Now, onto something more serious! In sports news, (sports reporter) is here to tell us about the world s most prestigious sports event, the Olympic Games. So, (sports reporter), can you tell us about the next summer Games. SPORTS REPORTER The next Summer Games will be held in Tokyo from July 24th to August 9th, There will be 38 events in all, including five new sports: baseball and softball, skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing, and Paralympic road cycling. Speaking of the Paralympic Games, they will take place from August 5th to September 6th, 2020, with a slate of 22 sports. Now, I ve heard that the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee will be introducing sustainable medals? SPORTS REPORTER Absolutely! All medals for Olympic and Paralympic athletes are going to be made from recycled electronic devices. Reporting live from the Akihabara electronics district in Tokyo, Japan, I m (name). Thank you very much, (sports reporter s name). Did you know that the first time the Summer Olympics were awarded to Tokyo, they were cancelled? Under the growing threat of the Second World War, the International Olympic Committee announced that the 1940 competition would not be held. Tokyo eventually hosted the Summer Games in We d like to wish our athletes the best of luck in their qualifying competitions for Tokyo 2020!Thanks, (sports reporter). Thanks, (sports reporter). When we come back, some guilty pleasures. DALET: BUMPER INTRO GUILTY PLEASURES THEME MUSIC Now for our weekly visit with our guilty pleasures reporter who s going to tell me his top picks for the week. We ll listen to a bit of music and then he ll talk about his good and bad memories. Good evening, (guilty pleasures reporter). GUILTY PLEASURES REPORTER Good evening, (host). This week, I chose three songs that made shivers go up and down my spine. Here s the first one...

DALET: MUSIC CLIP (10 sec.) MUSIC CLIP (SLOW) Oh boy. I have a feeling it was your first broken heart! Do tell! GUILTY PLEASURES REPORTER Response: 10 seconds Here s the second. Hold on to your hats! DALET: MUSIC CLIP (10 sec.) MUSIC CLIP (DANCE) GUILTY PLEASURES REPORTER Response: 10 seconds And the last one. It s pretty awful, I know! DALET: MUSIC CLIP (10 sec.) MUSIC CLIP (POP) GUILTY PLEASURES REPORTER Response: 10 seconds That s my most embarrassing moments! What a hoot! Next week on our Guilty Pleasures segment, we ll talk food! DALET: MUSIC BUMPER MUSIC BUMPER Viewers at home, I m sorry to interrupt our program. I ve just been told that we re in communication with our guest, (Mr. / Mrs.) Strato Sphere, who is currently flying 40 km above Earth. He is going to tell us about a revolutionary trip in a hot air balloon. Good evening, (Mr. / Mrs.) Sphere, can you hear me? SCIENCE REPORTER Yes, yes (Sidekick), I can hear you. I m in the prototype of a space vessel and the view of our blue planet from here is breathtaking. Imagine: a near-space hot air balloon, developed by the company World View, made its first flight in This new type of vessel consists of a gigantic helium balloon attached to a capsule. It can transport six passengers and rise about 32

kilometres, after which it sails the stratosphere for approximately two hours. The system is simple. As the balloon rises, it fills with helium until the desired altitude is reached. Then it gradually vents helium as it starts its descent. At 15 kilometres above ground level, a ParaWing takes over to ensure a smooth landing. Interested? Come join me in the stratosphere. Back to you! Hard to believe it wasn t that long ago they were only sending chimps into space! Next, our headhunter has met a news anchor to tell us about our job hunting section. Hi (headhunter) Well (host), anchoring a news program is quite a challenge, one to which we rise every day. We asked our colleague Andrew to share some of his experiences with us. Hello Andrew, can you give us a brief history of how you came to be a reporter for CBC News? Answer on Dalet: Andrew: How did your education prepare you for becoming a journalist and news anchor? Answer on Dalet: Andrew: Give us a little taste of what a typical day is like for you. Answer on Dalet: Andrew: Doing a live broadcast must have its ups and downs. Do you have any stories to tell us? Answer on Dalet: Andrew: Thank you for sharing your time and insights with us, Andrew. I wish you and CBC News Vancouver continued success. Goodbye! Answer on Dalet: Andrew: Thanks, Andrew, for telling us what it s like to be a journalist.

DALET: THEME MUSIC THEME MUSIC Today, for our 600th show, I m joined by three contributors with some fun facts to share from the world of music. Hello to all of you! ALL THREE Hi / Hello / Hey! Let s start with you, (Contributor 1). You re going to talk about a phenomenon that s been trending all over, even here. CONTRIBUTOR 1 That s right, (Sidekick). Back in 2011, a piano was left at the Gare Montparnasse in Paris for a few days. It was due to be packed up after a cultural event there. Well, passersby started playing it. These impromptu sessions were so successful that the rail company decided to install pianos in every train station in Paris and about a hundred others across France. In Montreal, since 2012, pianos have been set up in public spaces every summer, for anyone who wants to sit down and tinkle the ivories! You can go to the City of Montreal website to find out where they all are. What a wonderful initiative courtesy of our friends in France! Your turn, (Contributor 2) CONTRIBUTOR 2 As you may know, I m a big, big fan of science fiction movies. Have you seen Inception, directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Leonardo DiCaprio? Did you know that the main theme in the score composed by Hans Zimmer was strongly influenced by the Édith Piaf classic Non, je ne regrette rien? Zimmer simply slowed down the melody until it was largely unrecognizable. That was a pretty clever move, because it fits perfectly with the script, which plays around with the flow of time. By the way, Inception also starred the excellent French actor Marion Cotillard. Thanks, (Contributor 2). And lastly, it s over to you, (Contributor 3)! CONTRIBUTOR 3 Everybody knows Tintin, right? Even Steven Spielberg: he directed a computer-animated film about the adventures of the boy reporter. Remember the character Bianca Castafiore? Well, she actually existed! Florence Foster Jenkins was an American socialite who became an opera singer in the 19th century. It even inspired a movie, starting Meryl Streep. She was convinced she was a talented soprano but the truth is, she had a terrible voice. She sang Mozart and Strauss arias without ever hitting the right notes. Even so, Foster Jenkins was hugely popular: audiences

went to see her recitals for fun and to laugh at her ridiculous costumes. Some say she inspired Tintin s creator, Hergé. Yikes. She gives me goosebumps, and not in a good way! Let s check with our producer; do we have time for a couple more items? Excellent. (Contributor 1), you ve got a story about Julio Iglesias. CONTRIBUTOR 1 Yes, (Sidekick). Singing was not this romantic crooner s original career choice. In his younger days, he played soccer for a Real Madrid youth club and he had a promising future. Unfortunately, he had to give it all up after a serious car accident in September 1962 which left him paralyzed for a year and a half. After that, he focused on music full time. Wow! And for those who may not know, Julio is the father of Enrique Iglesias! Over to you, (Contributor 2)? CONTRIBUTOR 2 Thanks! (host), did you know that the song Happy Birthday, despite being written 120 years ago by two school teachers, is still under copyright in the U.S. and will be until 2030? Warner Brothers continues to demand royalties any time it s used in a movie or TV show. As a result, there have been attempts to write another, royalty-free, birthday song. Ah, as long as there s another nickel to be gained somewhere! (Contributor 3), you re going to tell us about some music that s a little older than that. CONTRIBUTOR 3 Yes I am, (Sidekick). Do you know when the world s oldest known melody was composed? Around 1400 B.C.! It s a hymn notated on a clay tablet, discovered by archeologists in Syria in the 1950s. It was written to honour a goddess of the Hurrian pantheon. Thanks to all three of you. Those are certainly some fun facts! DALET: ETIQUETTE BUMPER ETIQUETTE BUMPER Good manners and decency seem to be a thing of the past these days. When the feminist movement began, many advertisements that had been quite acceptable began to feel incredibly dated to us. (etiquette expert), you did some research into the good manners imposed on women in those days?

ETIQUETTE EXPERT Yes, (sidekick). I found a clip from a show about good manners originally broadcast in Let s listen to it... DALET: GOOD MANNERS CLIP GOOD MANNERS CLIP That was quite amusing, I must say! ETIQUETTE EXPERT You said it! Nowadays, misuse of the cellphone is a habit we should all be very concerned about. Here are a few things to avoid: -Don t text while someone is talking to you because it s impolite. The person may feel you re not interested in the conversation. -Cellphones at the dinner table, during meetings and at social gatherings are rude. Breaking up with someone Or even worse, firing someone by text is simply not acceptable! You know, it s today s younger generation who will need to show the way for those who come after them! Thanks so much, (etiquette expert). Let s hope our listeners will follow your advice. That was so interesting! DALET: MUSIC THEME MUSIC THEME Thank you very much friends. We had a nice time together. But unfortunately, this is the end of our show! In the studio with us, there were : Each introduce themself Thanks so much. It s definitely been an enriching experience. But before we sign off, I d like to commend the work of our technicians, because there wouldn t be a show without our team in the control room. I d like to thank: our producer (name) our sound effects technician (name) our sound technician (name) and our control room technician (name) This is your co-host, (sidekick). And this is your host (host). Tune in next week, my friends!
