1 April 2017 Newsletter Hello Cresswind, Happy spring! FROM THE LIFESTYLE DESK We had an extremely busy March, but we had so much fun! We started out with Frogmore Stew. Thank you to Barney & Dale Duncan, Steve & Marge Williams, Chuck LaCortiglia and Dennis Kraus for making this event such a huge success! We had Ron Gartner come and sing for us, which was great fun! It was the first time we d used the amphitheater and really enjoyed sitting out on the lawn and enjoying each other s company. Kathy Larson arranged a tour to Dorchester County Archive & History Center to St. George and they had an amazing time! Anna Maria Canonica arranged a night out for the residents to go see a Murder Mystery show! The group that went were able to participate in the show and really had a great time! Linda Rogers from our Travel Club got a few of the Cresswind residents to travel down to Savannah for the St. Patrick s Day parade! They had a wonderful time with Kelly Tours and look forward to the next excursion to Amelia Island. Thank you to everyone who participates in all the fun activities and events that we have here at Cresswind. It s greatly appreciated and I really enjoy watching everyone have a great time thank you! Let s have some fun in April! 2 Helping Hands All Month Long Do you have books you d like to give away or share? We will distribute your book donations to local organizations that accept them. Please feel free to drop off your books in the big box located in the Clubhouse Arts & Crafts Room. Also, stop by and drop off your food donations for Knightsville Elementary. The children greatly appreciate the food that Cresswind has continually donated. Thank you to everyone for your generosity. Healthy Cooking Demo / Paleo Style Tuesday, April 4th 3:00pm Marshall Hill from Omaggio Catering will offer a delicious demo to help you eat for a more healthy you. This month is Paleo style dishes, sure to please everyone s taste. Please RSVP to Sheila at sheila.hendrickson@associa.us or sign up at the Clubhouse. Fajita Bar With Marshall Hill/Omagio Catering Friday, April 7th 6:00pm Marshall Hill from Omagio Catering will host a Fajita Bar featuring an array of meats, vegetable and cheeses to please everyone. Only $15 per person! BYOB! Please sign-up at the Clubhouse or RSVP Sheila at sheila.hendrickson@associa.us by Thursday, April 6th. Seder/Passover Monday, April 10th 6:30pm Mark & Ileen Swerdloff will host the Seder for the beginning of Passover. A full course meal with brisket, potatoes, green beans and dessert, accompanied with wine, will be served. We invite all faiths to join us that evening to listen to the traditional Haggadah spoken by Mark and his son Jonathan. The Art of French Bread Making Seminar Thursday, April 13th 4:00pm Please join Dennis Kraus in the kitchen, once again, to learn the five steps of making fine French bread. This is a hands on project for everyone. Please sign up for this demonstration.
3 Timrod Library Lecture Tuesday, April 18th 2:00pm Please join Cathy Inglehart for an afternoon of history. Learn how a group of young women from Summerville formed a reading circle and donated the books from their own reading circle to form a membership library charted April 23, Within seven years their library had a permanent home. Cresswind Ladies High Tea/British Style Friday, April 21st 2:00PM Calling all Cresswind Ladies for High Tea! Gloves & hats are not required, neither is a dress, just bring your favorite tea cup and we ll do the rest! Finger sandwiches, scones with jam & clotted cream, petit fours, tea biscuits and of course, tea. Cost is only $10/person. Please sign up in the Clubhouse or Sheila! See you there! South Carolina Aquarium Tuesday, April 25th 2:00pm Beth Demas from the Aquarium will be here to give us a presentation of alligators, snakes and possibly turtles. Come on over and learn about the habitat in South Carolina and a little more about the wonderful South Carolina Aquarium. Happy Hour With Low Country Health Brokers Friday, April 28th 6:00pm Gavin and Amanda Barney will be on hand to discuss your health insurance needs and to answer any questions you may have about your present coverage. They will be serving heavy hors d oeuvres and wine for the evening. Movie Night Featuring Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood Sunday, April 30th 7:00pm Set in 1937 Louisiana, four young girls are in the woods and initiate themselves into the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. After years of mother/ daughter tension, Siddalee receives a scrapbook detailing the wild adventures of the Ya-Yas, her mother s girlhood friends. This is a great story about love and courage and how to overcome it.
4 Cresswind Tennis Club Saturdays 6:30pm Dale & Barney Duncan have formed a Tennis Club here at Cresswind! Tennis players, both past and present, interested in playing "fun" tennis, please join them and hit some balls on those beautiful tennis courts here at Cresswind! Join Steve Williams and other interested Cresswind friends and neighbors in the Clubhouse arts and crafts room to learn and practice charcoal drawing and various painting techniques. Game Night Mondays 7:00pm Have a favorite game you like to play with your Cresswind friends and neighbors? Bring it over to the Clubhouse on Monday evenings and laugh and play the night away! Mexican Train seems to be the favorite so far, so stop on over and enjoy the camaraderie! Pickle Ball Club Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00pm Please join your Cresswind friends and neighbors at the Pickle Ball Courts to learn how to improve your skills. Never played before? They ll be happy to teach you how to play this fast paced paddle ball game. American Mahjong Wednesdays 2:00pm Come over to the Clubhouse and join your Cresswind and Ponds friends and neighbors for the American version of Mahjong, originally an ancient game of Chinese tiles!
5 Craft Night/Poker Night Wednesdays 7:00pm Fun for all on Wednesday evenings! Have a craft project you d like to share or work on with your neighbors, bring it over to the Art Room! Like Poker? Join the Cresswind men and get in on a hand or two! The Clubhouse has it going on! Bocce Ball Club Thursdays 10:30am Please join your Cresswind friends and neighbors on Thursday mornings at 10:30am for a game of Bocce, the Italian version of outdoor bowling. It s a great morning activity of fun and laughter! Kentucky Derby Party in the Clubhouse Saturday, May 6th! Please join your Cresswind friends and neighbors to watch the Kentucky Derby in the Clubhouse on the big screen! Food and fun will be provided! Please sign up in the Clubhouse or Sheila. Cost is only $10/person! Amelia Island, Florida, May 16th $129/person Visit the seaport community of Amelia Island and learn about its amazing and tumultuous past. A guided tour of the island provides view of the notable locations. This excursion needs at least 20 people to make this happen. Please stop at the Clubhouse for more information! RiverDogs vs Augusta Friday, May 19 5:30pm $15/person It s baseball season! Join your Cresswind friends and neighbors for a night out at The Joe! Kelly Tours will pick us up at the Clubhouse at 5:30 for the 7:00pm game! $15 includes game ticket and transportation!. We need 50 people for this excursion so please sign up in the Clubhouse ASAP! Thank you! Hawaiian Luau by the Pool Saturday, June 10th Save the date for this fun filled day of smoked pig, sides, signature drinks and more! More information will be coming soon!
