Supervisor: Kelly Neall. Positions available: Early Summer: 1 under or ; Late Summer: 1 under + 1 Tasks: o Early Summer (1 position): Assisting with OIAF selection. The OIAF receives over 2000 entries from around the world. We need an intern to help sit in on the o selection process and help keep the process organized. The internship would include writing screening notes and helping with logistics. o Later Summer (2 positions): Help to write material for and help edit The Festival Program (A guide to the Festival that is distributed around Ottawa), The Festival Reader (in-depth essays about Festival programming) and the Festival App. Skills: You must have strong English writing skills, good computer skills and be a team player. Bonus skills would include knowledge of the Adobe Suite and written French. 1

2 Inside Out Ottawa LGBT Film Festival ( Annual lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender film festival. Festival in November. Inside Out main office is in Toronto, but student will be working independently in Ottawa. Supervisor: Winnie Luk Position available: Late Summer: 1 position (under or ) Tasks: Assist with development and oversee execution of local marketing strategy/community outreach, including: o Refine and grow Inside Out s contact database of LGBT organizations, social groups and businesses in Ottawa o Develop local network of businesses and/or organizations for the distribution of promotional materials (including program guides, posters, postcards) o Coordinate and manage distribution of promotional materials (through use of volunteers) o Coordinate presence at local LGBT and/or arts events leading up to the Festival to raise awareness Assist with planning events and coordinating school visits Assist with logistical details as directed by Inside Out staff and act as liaison between Toronto staff and Ottawa contacts Skills and Experience: o Bilingual applicants will be given priority o Prior experience working with LGBT and/or arts community (Volunteer experience will be taken into account) o Experience with event coordination o Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and working with Google Docs o Ability to work independently at home and have own computer o Excellent verbal and written skills o Driver s license Note: Inside Out is committed to access and equity, which includes a commitment to achieve diversity among its staff, board and other volunteers. Canadian Film Institute (CFI) ( The Institute presents a regular public program of contemporary, historical, and international cinema in the National Capital region, presented in various venues across Canada's capital city of Ottawa. Supervisor: TomMcSorley Positions available: There are positions available in both Early Summer and Late Summer. Details coming. Tasks: Writing program notes on films and film festivals, helping to organize public film screenings at various venues (including Richcraft Hall at Carleton), media and social media outreach work, as well as generating and updating content on the Canadian Film Institute website. Skills: Strong writing skills. 2

3 Digi60 Filmmakers' Festival ( Digi60 is a filmmakers' festival that has been around for over 13 years, widely respected in the Ottawa arts community and gearing up for an exciting season. (Partners w/ Obscura Creative) Supervisor: Emily Ramsay. Positions available: Early Summer: 1 under or ; Late Summer: 1 under or Tasks: Arts administrative position. Grant research, assisting marketing & business development, fundraising and sponsorship, alumni filmmaker contact data base and mailing list, partners engagement and outreach, including student participant and engagement, and working on our newsletter. They would be supervised by the Co- Executive Directors and the Marketing and Business Development Director. Skills: Interested in film festivals, arts administration, social media. Personal characteristics: Outgoing and assertive, also positivity, flexibility. Bonus: French and technically inclined with experience in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc. would be considered a strong asset. One World Film Festival ( Festival promoting documentary film making for human rights causes. Festival runs September 29-October 2, Positions available: There is a position available. Details coming. PRODUCTION RELATED Ottawa Film Office ( Focuses on the continued development, retention, competitiveness and enhancement of the city s film, television and digital media industry. In addition, it facilitates the issuance of various filming permits and other municipal requirements as well as promotes the region as a preferred destination for film, television and digital media production. Supervisor: Bruce Harvey Positions available: Early Summer: 1 under or ; Late Summer: 1 under or Tasks: Read through the website. Possibilities include: Creating a photographic "look book" of Ottawa neighborhoods to attract productions; Helping location scouts secure permits to shoot in Ottawa; Researching international film production companies; Workig on databases, etc. OFO is connected to all the local production companies, so this is a great position for someone interested in working in film production in Ottawa. Skills: Depends on the tasks. Assets: Photographic skills, WordPress coding, French. Independent Film Co-operative of Ottawa (IFCO) ( A centre for artists who express their ideas, values and experiences using the medium of film. IFCO provides, on a co-operative basis, training, facilities, equipment, funding, information resources and means to exhibit work. Supervisor: Patrice James Positions available: Early Summer: 1 under or ; Late Summer: 1 under or Tasks: Social media promotion (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram); Research for activities and programs; Administrative support to Executive Director or Technical Coordinator; Marketing, outreach, promotion; 3

4 Skills: Appreciation for analogue filmmaking; MS Word and Excel; Basic Photoshop or InDesign; Great communication skills; Access to a laptop and mobile phone (Android or iphone) SAW Video Media Art Centre ( A not-for-profit, artist-run media art centre that fosters the development of artists through access to equipment, training, mentorship, and programming. Our mission is to support a diverse community of media artists empowered by technology, programming and the exchange of ideas. Supervisor: Renuka Bauri Positions available: Early Summer: 1 under or Tasks: o Writing of article on local filmmaker for Spotlight page on our website o Assist with archive database and renumbering of archive tapes. o Assist with programming events o Assist with digitizing of Mirror Mirror broadcast series for Ottawa Art Gallery collaboration General o Assistance with preparation for SAW Video's move into to the new facility Skills: o Organization o Clear and concise writing/editing skills o Able to self-manage tasks when necessary o An understanding of event management would be helpful but not necessary GAPC Entertainment ( Television production company. Creates everything from television specials, series, and documentaries, to docu-dramas, children s programs, performing arts, and biopics. Note: Unlike the other positions, this position requires 12 weeks of full-time work. The credit earned is the same. Supervisor: Hoda Elatawi Positions available: 1 position over Early and Late Summer. Tasks: Training in all aspects of production, from development to filming, editing, postproduction, etc. Development= help the company prepare to pitch a project to broadcasters, may include research, interviewing doc subjects, etc. If a project is greenlit, student will get hands-on opportunity with the production process. Skills: Strong research, organizational, and communication skills (written and oral). Parktown Studios ( Equipment rental and production company. A well equipped rental department that regularly caters to industry professionals. Produces commercials, PSAs, music videos, feature films, etc. Supervisor: Alex Esguerra. Positions available: Early Summer and Late Summer: Room for several unders and s. Tasks: Students can expect to take on an integral part of our rental department, assisting in the co-ordination of film equipment rentals, learning on the way. Other duties include general office duties, reception, maintenance, answering the phone, etc. Assistance onset as the opportunities arise. 4

5 Skills: We will be happy to consider students who are interested in, or have backgrounds in: Film, Videography, Photography; Production Management/Coordination; Animation, Motion Graphics, Graphic Design; Accounting/Bookkeeping; Sales, Marketing, Communications. Candidates with some experience are preferred, but not mandatory. We re looking for motivated people. Obscura Creative Obscura Creative is a full service video production company. From commercial spots and live events, to feature films and reality TV - we want to bring our clients vision to life with excellent quality imagery that suits their budget. Supervisor: Emily Ramsay (Partners with Digi60 Filmmakers' Festival) Positions available: Early Summer: 1 under or ; Late Summer: 1 under or (Would also be open to one student working all summer) Tasks: As we grow our clientele, the student would participate in client outreach, budgetary and funding research/proposals, data management, on set help, script breakdowns, and more. Skills: Interested in broadcast television, commercial and corporate projects, film. Personal characteristics: outgoing and assertive, also positivity, flexibility. Bonus: French and technically inclined with experience in Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc. would be considered a strong asset. Miscellaneous Ottawa Production Companies Bruce Harvey of Ottawa Film Office has put out a call for local producers who might need help with on set work (or other tasks), but we haven t heard back yet.
