2 YOUR PLATFORM is a Darebin Arts Speakeasy presentation opportunity for artists living with a disability. We are looking for a new performance work to be programmed at Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre during Melbourne Fringe Festival as part of the 2019 Darebin Arts Speakeasy Program. Applications are now open to artists who identify as living with a disability. This second iteration of YOUR PLATFORM is part of larger initiative to increase access and inclusion programs across Darebin Arts. The selected presentation will occur during Melbourne Fringe Festival for a 1-2 week season from the September, The work will be presented in Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre s Studio 1 or Studio 2. As detailed in the Creative Darebin Arts Strategy , the Darebin Arts Speakeasy program, is made up of high quality work by artistic leaders and is an integral part of the cultural ecology of Melbourne and Australia s artistic landscape. The program presents contemporary, critical work reflecting our society and the world that we want to live in, providing engaging artistic experiences, which aim to challenge the mainstream and remove barriers. 3 Applications Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre Artists will be given the opportunity to premiere a new performance work in Studio 1 or Studio 2 for a 1-2 week season during the September as part of the 2019 Melbourne Fringe Festival. City of Darebin will: Please note that fees, staffing, equipment provided, theatre hire hours, etc, will vary on each project and be negotiated depending on the specific needs of each show Theatre space rent free Basic technical equipment (see website for technical specifications of each space) Artist/Company Fee of $5,000 (Darebin retains 50% net Box Office) Technical, Front of House and Box Office Staff (as budget permits) Marketing Collateral and Campaign (Successful applicants must run their own campaign as well) A Publicist There are no minimum sales targets to meet. That means companies retain income from the first ticket sold. It is worth repeating that packages of fees and support are subject to change depending on the requirements and needs of each show. Artist / Arts Company will: The Project will be led by artists that identify as living with a disability. Be available in the lead up and during the period of September to produce a fully realised production. Provide relevant supplier details and invoice City of Darebin for the artist fee. Present a budget for the production. 5 2018 Supported Program The inaugural 2018 YOUR PLATFORM supported two works for presentation during the 2018 Melbourne Fringe Festival. KooKoo the Bird Girl by Sarah Houbolt and SPIN by Anna Seymour. Internationally acclaimed circus and physical theatre performer, Sarah Houbolt celebrated the beauty of difference in her critically acclaimed one woman show, KooKoo the Bird Girl. This season then won the 2019 Green Room Award for Contemporary and Experimental Award for Performance (by an Individual or Ensemble). SPIN was created and performed by Anna Seymour, dance participatory performance specialist Bec Reid, disc jockey DJ Callum Padgham, dancers Amanda Lever, Benjamin Hoopman and Jon Clarke along with deaf hosts Luke King and Robbie Burrows, sent audiences spinning literally in a new participatory dance work.
