1 Theatre Enrichment Audition Form NAME Grade Aug Your audition will consist of presentation of a prepared monologue and accompanying design drawings, discussion of the presentation, participation in an improvisation exercise, and a short interview. 2 Theatre Audition Information Each candidate will perform a monologue and present a design from a play of his/her choice, discuss the performance and presentation, participate in an improvisation exercise, and participate in an interview. Theater Students at the Creative Arts Academy will study all aspects of theatre, including playwriting, directing, improvisation, set design and construction, costume design, lighting and sound, make-up, and stage management. We are looking for students with: A passion for performing and making theatre Willingness to accept suggestions and try new things Overall creativity, imagination, and innovation Ability to work in groups and take direction Ability to accept criticism and integrate feedback Ability to focus, and learn from mistakes Interest in all art forms What to bring to your audition Your memorized monologue. Make sure it has been well-rehearsed. Four copies of your monologue for the audition panel. Your completed design(s) for the technical component of your audition. (6-8th grade students choose one; high school students please do both.) Provide a set model for your play. (High School: use 1.5 = 1 scale model) Provide a costume design for your monologue character. Designs may be rendered by hand or digitally. If you chose to perform a sung monologue from a musical or opera, please also bring sheet music for the accompanist (one will be provided upon request). Be prepared to discuss your play of choice (monologue of choice for 6-8th grade). This includes your performance and design choices. Wear clothes that you can move in. Need help finding a Monologue to perform? Here are some suggestions: 6-8th Grade Students: Two selections from Hold Me! by Jules Feiffer (see following page) High School Students: 1. A Christmas Story 2. A Midsummer Night s Dream 3. The Odd Couple 4. Wicked
3 Excerpts from Hold Me! by Jules Feiffer: Make Faces I go out on the street late at night to an empty spot where there are no lights, and no people, and no houses where strangers can look out their windows and catch me. And when I make sure I m absolutely alone. I make faces!! (makes three faces) More Socks I go to the Laundromat to do a wash. Included in the wash are 8 pairs of socks. Out of the wash come 6 pairs of socks plus 1 gray sock and 1 blue sock. I week later I go to the Laundromat to do a wash. Included in the wash are 6 pairs of socks. Out of the wash comes 4 pairs of socks plus 1 black sock and 1 green sock. A week later I go to the Laundromat to do a wash. Included in the wash are 4 pairs of socks. Out of the wash come 2 pairs of socks. The other socks never show up. The next day I go to the Laundromat. As an experiment I put in nothing but my last 2 pairs of socks. Out of the wash comes a body stocking. In the body stocking I find a note. The note says: Quit trifling with the laws of nature and bring the machine more socks. Werewolf One night, driving home to dinner, I was suddenly struck through the windshield by the rays of the full moon. And I grew body hair, pointed ears, cloven hooves, and a tail. And I thought, At last! It s the real me! And with fear secretly mingled with delight I arrived home, where my wife said, Your dinner s cold and stop looking at me in that accusing way! And my son said, All the other daddies are good at fixing things, and you ve got fingers like claws And my little girl said, Why do I have to have the only father on the block who s different? So I ate them all up. Werewolves really shouldn t marry. I Read a Book Listen, world! You know what I did today? I read a book Okay, I started to read a book. Yes, I did! A big book, world! A classic! I picked it out of the bookcase and I started right in reading it! And you know how far I got before my mind began to wander? I got all the way to page 5, before I turned on the TV. And hey, you know what was on the TV? The movie version of this book! How lucky can one person be?
