Founded in Vienna in 1999 with the concept of pairs coming together, the two Korean Hong sisters and Jens Elvekjaer (who is married to Soo-Kyung Hong) have gained a reputation for their fresh and contemporary approach to the core repertoire and won almost all of the major competitions for piano trio. Their Mendelssohn CD was chosen by Britain s Classic FM as its Chamber Disc of Soo-Jin plays a violin built by Andrea Guarneri from the 17th century and Soo- Kyung plays a Grancino cello. Jens is Denmark s first Steinway artist. Their program features piano trios by Haydn, Ravel, and Brahms....Open your ears and take in this perfect unity. In turns celebratory and solemn, this program commemorates the 100th anniversary of this landmark day in history. Tapestry presents works of composers affected by the war, including Ralph Vaughan Williams who abandoned his composing career to enlist as a private in the Royal Army Medical Corp, Sergei Rachmaninoff who was forced to flee Russia in 1917, Claude Debussy whose Noël des infants qui n on plus de maison lashes out at a world at war, and Maurice Ravel who hoped to serve as a pilot but drove an ambulance and ultimately found a way to express his reaction to the war in his Le Tombeau de Couperin. The program also touches on iconic works including songs by Stephen Foster (American Civil War) and Simon and Garfunkel (Vietnam). Ravel s Le Tombeau de Couperin is paired with Baroque composer Francois Couperin s Leçons de Ténèbres, which harkens back to ancient wars and the siege of Jerusalem. Tapestry offers this program in the hope that we learn from our collective history, our Lessons of Darkness, and work together to avoid war at all cost. 4 ACCORDO Sunday, March 10, PM Church of the Holy Spirit 2405 Walden Way, St. Cloud Accordo is a string ensemble composed of current and former principal string players of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and Minnesota Orchestra. The group has been named Best Chamber Ensemble by the Minneapolis Star Tribune and the dream team of chamber music by Minnesota Monthly. Accordo has been performing since 2008 to consistently well-sold and enthusiastic audiences. We save you the commute and bring them to you in St. Cloud. Alon Goldstein, pianist, is admired for his musical intelligence and dynamic personality. Mr. Goldstein s artistic vision and innovative programming have made him a favorite with audiences and critics alike throughout the United States, Europe, South America and Israel. Cellist, Inbal Segev brings interpretations that are both unreservedly natural and insightful to the vast range of music she performs. She has performed as soloist with top orchestras around the world and her recording of the complete Cello Suites of J.S. Bach received critical acclaim and a spot on The New York Times Classical Playlist. Clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein, Twin Cities-based until recently, is considered one of today s most exceptional performers of the instrument. Admired and sought after for both its fresh interpretations of the classical music canon and its championing of works by 20th and 21st century composers, the ensemble has been hailed for its edge-of-the- seat performances, by the Boston Globe, which called it simply the best. Recently celebrating its 25th anniversary, the Borromeo continues to be a pioneer in its use of technology, and has the trailblazing distinction of being the first string quartet to utilize laptop computers on the concert stage. You save up to 25% by subscribing. Tickets are entirely interchangeable among the five subscription package concerts of the season. So, if you miss one concert, you can bring a friend to another to experience the beauty of chamber music. Single tickets are available for purchase at the door one hour in advance of the concert. For all concerts, except the November 3 Tapestry concert at the Paramount Theatre, seating is general admission and doors open approximately 30 minutes prior to each concert. Children under the age of seven are not admitted to concerts on the series, but are warmly welcomed at our Family Concerts! We are committed to ensuring that our programs are accessible to everyone.
