5 Symphony Orchestra The Duquesne Symphony Orchestra is central to the curriculum at the Mary Pappert. An integral feature of basic musicianship training that all instrumentalists in every degree program receive, the orchestral program helps students develop the understanding, technique and discipline required of professional orchestral musicians. Orchestra members rehearse three times each week and attend classes in orchestral excerpts and orchestra repertoire for brass, percussion, woodwind and string sections. The Symphony Orchestra performs in Pittsburgh s Carnegie Music Hall, renowned for its architectural beauty, and in Pittsburgh s premiere orchestral venue, Heinz Hall. In a typical school year, the Symphony Orchestra performs four to six concerts of major works from the standard orchestral repertoire, as well as a diverse range of music from Baroque to Contemporary. Soloists with the orchestra frequently include principal players from the world-renowned Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
