2 FEBRUARY 2-4, 2018 CONTINUED INFORMATION Qualifications New participants must be nominated by their music director, music leader or pastor to participate or audition. Students must exemplify excellent singing and instrumental skills. Students must be active in the music ministry of their church. Chaperones Must be 21 years old or older. One chaperone must be provided for each 1-6 students of same sex. Minimum of one chaperone per church group. Must complete online background screening. Returnees Eligible Baptist AllState Chorus and Orchestra returnees do not need to re-audition or be nominated Returning Orchestra/Chorus College Freshmen and Sophomores are invited Praise Team requires auditions every year Background Screening A yearly background check MUST be completed on EVERY ADULT 18 years or older WHO ATTENDS Baptist AllState Weekend. Please have every adult (including participants) with your group complete the Background Screening online. Registrations will not be complete, nor dates secured, until all adults have been screened and approved by the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Send a separate Video for each person auditioning. Also, a separate video is needed if auditioning for another section. 3. Accepted video files are: mp4, mov, m4v, wmv, avi. 4. Recordings/ s must be labeled with name, address, church, instrument or voice part. Large files may need to be uploaded to 5. A Registration Form must accompany each audition Video, available at Chorus Auditions At beginning of video give your name, your address, your church, and your voice part. Answer the following questions: 1. What group or groups do you sing with? (church, school, community) 2. Can you read music? 3. Can you follow your voice part on the written music? 1. Vocalize using a five note ascending & descending scale, for example: F,G,A,Bb,C,Bb,A,G,F - continue up by half steps (demonstrate how high you can sing). Sing on syllable LA 2. Vocalize using a five note descending scale starting G - F- E - D - C. Continue down by half steps (demonstrate how low you can sing). Sing on syllable LA 3. Sing a solo of your choice using piano accompaniment only. A hymn is acceptable. 4. Sing your part on one of the following from hymnal: Holy, Holy, Holy How Great Thou Art Star Spangled Banner (stanza/verse one sing your part with accompaniment, and stanza/verse two sing your part without accompaniment.) Play two octave chromatic scale up and back. 3. Play a solo selection of your choosing up to 64 measures. (piano accompaniment only if accompaniment is used.) Keyboard instruments: 1. Play the following concert key scales two octaves up and back both hands: C D Eb A 2. Play two octave arpeggio scale up and back: F D Db Bb 3. Play one of the following hymns: Worthy of Worship Shout to the Lord Amazing Grace Here I Am to Worship 4. Play a solo selection of your choosing up to 64 measures. Percussion My audition recording includes (state what you will be playing): drum set, timpani, keyboard percussion, other percussion I also play (state answer): drum set, timpani, keyboard percussion, other percussion My sight-reading ability (0=none, 5=excellent): drum set, timpani, keyboard percussion, other percussion 1. (Melodic) play same scales as wind instruments. 2. (Snare) choose 5 of the following rudiments: Long roll, single stroke roll, 5, 7, or 9 stroke roll, single and double paradiddle 3. (Timpani) while video is running, tune the following pitches with piano F-G, A-D, Bb, G. Demonstrate a roll for 12 counts. 4. (Trap Set) In 4/4 time, play light rock beat for 32 measures (add fills at measures 8, 16 and 24); repeat in 6/8 time. Bass Guitar 1. Play same scales as wind instruments. 2. Play bass line to the hymns Glorious Is Thy Name #204 BH91 and Great Is the Lord #12 BH91. Guitar 1. In 4/4 time creatively strum the following chord progression, changing chords every 4 beats: G C D Em Am F Dm7 Bb Gm A F#m C#m B E. 2. Play same progression (as above) in 6/8 time.
