1 Swiss Cultural Events in December 2016 We are pleased to present the following Swiss Cultural Events in the month of December: Trio Window When and where: December 15 th, Nanjing, Nanjing Arts Center December 16 th, Shanghai, Oriental Art Center, Performance Hall Window refers to both the clarinet and the namesake object as a metaphor. A window invites viewers to escape towards distant and poetic horizons. The Trio Window ensemble therefore wishes to share their passion for music with audiences. The Trio Window is formed by Swiss clarinetist Damien Bachmann, pianist Christian Chamorel, and cellist Estelle Revaz. Each has been lauded in their own right. Beginning with Cellist Estelle Revaz, the Austrian-Swiss musician was the laureate of several international foundations such as the Foundation Antonio Salieri of Legnano, Le Fond Français Instrumental or the Leenaards Foundation. Revaz has a passion for Chamber Music, in particular for the recital cello-piano.

2 Pianist Christian Chamorel is remarkable for the diversity of his repertoire and his exacting artistic approach, as is attested by his critically acclaimed recordings of Liszt, Mendelssohn and Schumann. He strives to facilitate the interchange between genres, and with this objective has founded a festival of lied and chamber music at Mont-sur-Lausanne, Switzerland, the Mont Musical. The third member of the trio is clarinetist Damien Bachmann, who won several national and international competitions in Romania, Switzerland, Czech Republic, and Italy. Besides playing as soloist with orchestras such as the Transylvania Philharmonic Orchestra or the Zürcher Kammerorchester, Bachmann is furthermore the artistic director of the «Puplinge Classique Festival» in Geneva since he created it in During their chamber concert tour in China, the ensemble will play classics by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and David Popper. 3 Yang Jing When and where: December 24 th, Shanghai, Shanghai Conservatory December 26 th, Shanghai, Shanghai Bandu music space Supported by: Pro Helvetia Shanghai, Swiss Arts Council The composer and pipa soloist Yang Jing is working on worldwide music stages by giving concerts of traditional music, classical music, contemporary, jazz as well as improvised music in solos, chamber music, ensembles, vocal, concerto, orchestra, film and multimedia performances. Yang Jing who moved to Switzerland in 2003, builds on a vast amalgam of musical history from both Asian and Western traditions to create a musical experience that transcends boundaries by combining her love for musical traditions of east and west with an innovative spirit of exploration. In her latest project Tales of Pipa, Yang Jing is telling music tales from ancient time until present - a live concert accompanied by multimedia. The sound-world created by the pipa is transformed into a musical and historical experience. Each piece is accompanied by floating images and musical sound tracks to lead the listener through the development of pipa music, from the ancient tales to contemporary compositions. 4 Boris Nikitin Where: When: Supported by: Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum December 8 th to 11 th Pro Helvetia Shanghai, Swiss Arts Council Invited by the Shanghai Minsheng Art Museum, professionals from theatre, dance, live performance and related academic criticism and curation, among them is Swiss theatre director Boris Nikitin, will give insights in their practices and studies. In this seminar project with the title Staging Alterity: Dialogues on Different Worlds / Different Theatres, the guest speakers will outline via talks and dialogues their distinctive aesthetics, their understanding of contemporary theatre and performance, including its imbrication with local culture and social life. Boris Nikitin, born in 1979 in Basel, is a theater director and author and develops projects in the independent scene as in the Municipal Theatre, among others at the Kaserne Basel, HAU, Gessnerallee Theater Freiburg, Schauspielhaus Graz, RuhrTriennale, Kammerspiele Munich. Nikitin's works play with the boundaries between performance and theatre, illusion and documentary, offensive dilettantism and theatrical virtuosity. More information:

5 Christophe Polese Project Axis Mundi Where: When: Supported by: Shanghai, MoCA Pavilion December 1 st to 12 th Pro Helvetia Shanghai, Swiss Arts Council Christophe Polese is participating in a residency project hosted by MoCA Shanghai and supported by Pro Helvetia Shanghai. He will present a showcase exhibition with his new work Axis Mundi at the MoCA Pavilion. Polese is an electronic music producer since the dawn of the nineties, nested between the persistent ham- electro dance or and the dark backstage of the post-industrial civilization. At the decks or performing live, we follow his footprints from the techno underworld of Geneva to the clubs throughout the world, for instance, Paris, Barcelona, Berlin, New York, Moscow, Lisbon, Bogota, Tokyo, Delhi. He creates sonic installations like the interactive Zen garden Tactile, the Autoradio Orchestra, The Sonic Garden, and also a set of 256 ringtones for a school. His last work is called Axis Mundi and is inspired by antics astronomical observatories in India. More information:
