1 VIOLIN FOA All-State Information & Audition Materials Auditions for All-State Orchestra are open to 7th & 8th Grade Orchestra Students participating in their school orchestra. These auditions are recorded live in early- to mid- September each year (September 16 th, 2017). Students selected to be part of the All-State Orchestra travel to Tampa in early January for 3 days of rehearsals with an extraordinary clinician (January 11-14, 2017). In the morning of the third day, Saturday there is a performance. The auditions are extremely competitive, and it is suggested you begin preparing for the auditions as soon as possible, i.e. now. Be sure to work on the etudes and required scales with your private teacher, so you are wellprepared. Important dates to reserve on your calendar Monday, August 19 th, 2017 by 4p.m.: FOA audition fee of $30 (if check, payable to GMS) are due to the orchestra teacher! Monday, August 19 th, 2017 two copies of FOA Parental Agreement and two copies of FMEA Student Contract (four total) are due to the orchestra teacher. Forms may be obtained in the orchestra office or downloaded from the following link: Please note that if using the above link, Parental Agreement and Student Contract contain interactive fields and should be filled out on a computer before being printed and signed. In addition, please complete another, third set of Parental Agreement and Student Contract for the All-State Honors Orchestra, as a backup, if do not get selected for the All-State Auditioned Orchestra. The All-State Honors Orchestra fee is covered by school. Saturday, August 27 th, 2017, 9:30am.-4:40p.m.: UCF All-State Preparation Clinic. It is free, but students need to pre-register and Ayako Yonetani to confirm their pre-registration. The link to the website and application form is below. September 24 th, 2017: All-State Orchestra Auditions (audio taping) at Dr. Phillips HS. January 11-14, 2017: if selected, students will participate in the All-State/FMEA clinic & concert in Tampa. 2 FLORIDA ORCHESTRA ASSOCIATION, INC th & 8 th Grade All-State Audition Requirements Scales: ALL INSTRUMENTS will play ONE of the following major scales and arpeggios: C, G, D, A, F, Bb, Eb. All scales and arpeggios are to be MEMORIZED. Scales and arpeggios will be played in even eighth notes using separate bows. Quarter = Violin: Viola: Cello: Bass: All scales and arpeggios must be two octaves. All scales and arpeggios must be two octaves. All scales and arpeggios must be two octaves. G, F, and A scales and arpeggios must be two octaves (no displacement). All other scales and arpeggios must be one octave. Sight-Reading: All students will be asked to sight read an eight measure original composition. The All-State Etude and Excerpt will be reduced on the day of the audition. Observe the listed edition of the audition material. In many cases, different editions have different musical material. Students will be judged based on edition listed! VISIT A clinic on how to prepare for the Florida Music Educators Association 2017 All-State Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Band auditions UCF applied music faculty and guest instrumentalist will offer clinics on FBA and FOA All-State Band and Orchestra audition requirements for 7-8, 9-10, and grades as well as FBA Jazz Band auditions requirements for 9-12 grades Emphasis will be placed on All-State exercise preparation, tone production, technique development, scales, sight-reading strategies, and audition readiness Students should bring instruments, All-State music, and be prepared to play UCF will provide all the percussion instruments. Students are required to bring their sticks, mallets and music SCHEDULE Check-in for the 8:45am clinics begins at 9:00am in the Performing Arts Center (PAC-M) Music Lobby, and will remain open throughout the day.
