Installation Unpacking and Inspection All Vicon equipment is inspected and tested before leaving the factory. It is the carrier s responsibility to deliver the equipment in the same condition in which it left the factory. Inspection for Visible Damage Immediately inspect the cartons upon delivery. On all copies of the carrier s freight bill, make a note of any visible damage. Make sure the carrier s agent (the person making the delivery) signs the note on all copies of the bill. If the agent does not have claim forms, contact the carrier s office. Inspection for Concealed Damage As soon as possible after delivery, unpack the unit and inspect it for concealed damage. Do not discard the carton or packing materials. If the unit is damaged, contact the carrier immediately and request forms for filing a damage claim. Make arrangements for a representative of the carrier to inspect the damaged equipment. If the equipment must be returned for repair, follow the Shipping Instructions at the end of this document. Physical Installation The V894CSH series is designed to fit into a corner where two walls and a ceiling meet. It may be fastened to either or both walls or to the walls and the ceiling. The V894WSH series is designed for wall mounting. Refer to Figure 1. Cable access is provided on one side. The camera may be rotated 360º and be tilted slightly to give a higher or lower angle of view. The varifocal lens allows for lens adjustment capability. The wall/ceiling material must provide suitable strength to support the weight of the unit (2.75 lb/1.2 kg). Be sure the area around the selected location is clear of obstacles (such as steel beams, headers, pipes, electrical wiring, etc.) that would interfere with mounting. Video and power cables must be routed to the installation location. Before beginning installation, read the Coaxial Cable Recommendations at the end of this manual and verify that the accessory pack contains the items listed in Table 2. 2 Installation X Rev 206 V894CSH/V894WSH High-Security Cameras

Item Quantity Function Rubber grommet 1 Seals cable access hole against dust, prevents cable abrasion No. 8 Torx bit 1 Use to remove and install tamperproof screws No tamperproof Torx screw 2 Supplied as spares Cable tie mount, adhesive base 3 Secures camera power cables Cable tie 3 Secures camera power cables Table 2: Accessory Pack Contents Required tool: The Torx bit that is supplied is designed for a socket or screwdriver-type holder designed for hexagonal bits. Mounting the Housing The housing consists of two main assemblies, the outer or front cover and the back corner or wall mount assembly. The front of the housing is secured to the back of the housing with Torx tamperproof screws. A special tool is supplied in the accessory pack for removing and replacing these screws. When the installation is complete, retain the Torx bit in case access to the interior of the housing is required later. Two extra Torx screws are provided in the accessory pack Note: The camera mounting bracket assembly can be removed if desired. Loosen the self-locking nut and disconnect the cable at the camera PCB. There are four (4) 0.22-inch (5.6-mm) holes that are provided for mounting the housing assembly to the wall and/or ceiling to assure a secure mounting. A inch (19-mm) hole is provided for cable access. 1. Remove the front cover. Using the housing back as a template, mark the location of the cable access opening in the wall or ceiling and the locations of the mounting screws. 2. Cut the cable opening in the wall. The cable opening diameter should be slightly larger than the outer diameter of the rubber grommet from the accessory pack. This allows the housing to fit flush against the wall when installed. Optionally, a conduit fitting (not supplied) can be used. 3. Drill suitable holes for whatever type of hollow-wall hardware has been selected. The use of No. 10 hardware is recommended. Use hollow-wall anchors or, if the housing is being mounted on a sheet metal surface, use rivet nuts. 4. The cable access hole in the housing accommodates standard cable access fittings as used with electrical junction boxes. If such a fitting is not to be used, install the rubber grommet from the accessory pack. The grommet has been split for preterminated coaxial cable. The grommet protects video and power cables from abrasion and prevents dust from entering the housing through the cable access hole. 5. Pull enough power cable and coaxial cable through the grommet into the housing to allow for convenient handling during termination. 6. Fasten the housing to the wall with four fasteners appropriate for the mounting surface. 4 Installation X Rev 206 V894CSH/V894WSH High-Security Cameras

Cable Connections Both power and video connections are made to the printed circuit board (PC board) mounted in the housing. The PC board provides a pendant cable BNC connector for video and a 3-position screw terminal connector for camera power. Refer to Figure 1 and the Coaxial Cable Recommendations at the end of this manual. Coaxial Video Cable 1. Attach the customer male BNC connector on the video cable to the mating female BNC connector on the pendant cable. (Note: Pendant cable is taped to housing for shipping. Remove shipping tape before making connections.) 2. Push excess coaxial cable back through the grommet and arrange the coaxial cable as desired in the housing. Camera Power Connections Note: Vicon systems and components, like most electronic equipment, require a clean, stable power source. Voltage irregularities such as surges, drops, and interruptions can affect the operation of your equipment and, in severe cases, damage certain components. Vicon strongly recommends the use of line conditioners, voltage regulators, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. A UL listed Class 2 direct plug-in transformer with 24 VAC 200 ma output is required for powering the V894CSH and V894WSH cameras. Power Supplies Vicon recommends several power supplies, depending on the needs of the installation. Refer to the table below. For other multichannel power supplies, contact Altronix Corporation at Model Number VC24PS-1 S24PS V PS V2416-8PS Description Single channel, 24 VAC, 10 VA Single channel, 24 VAC, 4 A 8-channel indoor, 24 VAC; 0.4 A/channel 16-channel indoor, 24 VAC; 0.5 A/channel Power is connected through a 3-position screw terminal connector on the PC board. Pin 1 of the connector is identified by a 1 silkscreened on the PC board. Refer to Figure 1 and Table 3 for the input power connections. Caution: Be sure to make pin connections correctly. Wrong pin connections will cause damage to the unit. Cable ties and cable tie bases are provided in the accessory pack. 12 Camera Synchronization If there is more than one unit in a system, the cameras have to be synchronized to ensure there is no roll of video. If the camera will be used in a line lock video application, the camera interface board is already set in line lock mode by default. Camera synchronization is DIP switch selectable, line locked or internal. The use of line-locking synchronization using a V-phase potentiometer (pot) is typically included in video equipment requiring external video synchronization. As an example, equipment like a video switcher unit uses the camera s line lock to reduce video jump on its monitor during camera switching. The adjustment for the line lock V-phase (VR1) is on the back board of the camera. Refer to Figure 2. The V-phase pot allows video to power line phase adjustment up to 180. If more than 180 of adjustment is required, swap the lines attached to the 24 VAC terminal block connector. Be sure that the selector switch is set to position LL shown in Figure 3. Note that the performance of the camera s line lock depends on the quality of the power source. If the camera experiences roll or jitter due to the quality of the power source, then it is best to set the camera to internal crystal mode. This is done by setting the selector switch to INT. as shown in Figure 3. Figure 2 DIP Switch/Potentiometer Location 6 Installation X Rev 206 V894CSH/V894WSH High-Security Cameras

Camera/Lens Adjustments After all cabling is complete, the camera and lens can be adjusted. DIP Switch Settings Refer to Figures 2 and 3 when making DIP switch settings. The ELC/ALC mode switch is used to select Electronic Light Compensation or Automatic Light Compensation. The ALC setting is used for external autoiris and the ELC setting is used for internal autoiris. Pole 1 of the DIP switch is set to ON for ELC and OFF for ALC. For manual iris lenses, Vicon sets the ELC/ALC mode to ELC prior to shipment; on autoiris lenses, it is set to ALC. The camera can operate independently, using its internal crystal controlled sync generator, or it may be synchronized using line locking. To select one or the other of these sync modes, set the DIP switch on the front camera board to either INT or LL. Pole 2 of the DIP switch is set to ON for INT and OFF for LL. Vicon sets the mode setting to LL prior to shipment. The AGC switch is used to activate the internal AGC circuit contained in the camera. When set to ON, the AGC automatically boosts the camera sensitivity if the scene illumination is insufficient. To activate the AGC circuit, Pole 3 of the DIP switch is set to the ON position. Vicon sets the AGC ON prior to shipment. The BLC switch is used to activate the automatic Backlight Compensation circuit in the camera. The BLC select is used to automatically compensate for bright backgrounds. To activate the BLC circuit, Pole 4 of the DIP switch is set to the ON position. Vicon sets the BLC ON prior to shipment. The day/night camera includes a switch to select having the day/night feature turned ON or OFF. If day/night is turned ON, at a low light level the camera changes to monochrome mode and the resolution and sensitivity increase. Refer to Figure 3. Figure 3 DIP Switch Settings X Rev 206 V894CSH/V894WSH High-Security Cameras Installation 7

Lens Adjustment The lens can be manually adjusted for focus and angle of view. On the lens, focus (near to infinity) is the front ring and the telephoto/wide adjustment is the end ring. On autoiris lenses, iris adjustment may be required if the picture appears dark or grainy or has poor color. There is a potentiometer (VR1) on the camera front board to adjust the autoiris. Refer to Figure 2. Camera/Lens Positioning The camera position can be adjusted in three axes, vertically (tilt), vertical height of the camera/lens assembly and rotation about the lens axis (roll). Swivel the assembly for tilt position. The vertical height of the camera/lens assembly can be adjusted by loosening the lock nut, changing the vertical position of the camera mounting bracket within the slot in the mounting bracket and retightening the nut. The picture may be squared up by rotating the camera about its own axis up to 360 (roll adjustment). Note: After all adjustments are made, be sure to tighten all bracket screws. Final Installation Steps The last installation steps include repositioning the camera and fastening the outer cover in place. 1. If the camera was removed, rotated or tilted during the cable connection, reinstall the camera and adjust until it is directed at about the center of the black mask on the inside of the housing window. Be certain the lens doesn t touch the window when reinstalling the cover. It is best if the picture from the camera can be viewed on a monitor for this procedure in order to achieve the best positioning of the camera. Make sure camera is oriented correctly; top of camera is labeled. 2. Secure the outer cover with the three (3) (V894CSH) or four (4) (V894WSH) tamperproof screws provided. A screw locking compound such as Loctite is recommended. Save the special tool and the two spare tamperproof screws. Maintenance The V894CSH and V894WSH require no maintenance except the occasional cleaning of the housing and window. Use a soft cloth and plain soap and water. Do not use abrasive cleansers that can scratch the window surface or the finish on the housing. Fuse Replacement There is a resettable fuse located on the back of the PCB in the housing. 8 Maintenance X Rev 206 V894CSH/V894WSH High-Security Cameras

Coaxial Cable Recommendations Caution: Careful selection of proper cable is essential to obtain the best performance from this equipment. Vicon assumes no responsibility for poor performance when cables other than those recommended, or equivalent, are installed. In all cases, coaxial cable impedance should be 75 ohms. Materials Use only a pure copper center conductor. Do not use a copper-plated steel or aluminum center conductor, as they will result in poor quality video. Solid-core bare copper conductor is the best type, where flexing and bending will be minimal. If severe bending and flexing is required for installation, use a stranded center conductor. Never exceed the manufacturer s minimum bend radius specification. Use cellular (foam) polyethylene dielectric except where heavy moisture exists. For moisture conditions, use solid polyethylene dielectric cable with a heavy exterior insulation. The shield must be copper braid providing 95% or better coverage. Cable Types The cable types listed below are the most common 75-ohm types used. They vary in size (diameter), dielectric type and net DC resistance. The larger cable results in a lower DC resistance and better video quality, with increased difficulty in handling and installation. Let the required picture quality and cable distance provide a guide in choosing the best cable type. For cables other than the approved Vicon types below, contact the manufacturers listed below.
