DQMx Series 15 Section 5 Inpt Modle Men Each Inpt Modle will ato-detect its corresponding inpt stream. The ASI modle reqires no configration. The 8VSB/QAM modle, however, needs to be configred depending on whether the inpt is in 8VSB format (Digital Off-air) or in QAM format (Digital Cable). The factory defalt vales are selected to minimize the necessary configration steps. However, yo can change the factory defalt vale of any of the men options. In this section we provide an explanation of these options, and instrctions on how to change them. 5.1 ASI Inpt Modle: General DQMx will atomatically detect the type of Inpt Modle that is installed on each of its for inpt slots. If an ASI Inpt Modle is detected, then the nit will search for the presence of an inpt stream on that modle and one of the following two messages will appear on the LCD: ASI INPUT# 1 Stream Present or ASI INPUT# 1 Stream Absent If an inpt stream is present, the Inpt Modle will atomatically scan and lock to the inpt stream. Programs, along with their program nmbers, will be displayed on the LCD. Major/Minor channel nmbers and station call letters are also displayed when present. Twelve (12) is the maximm nmber of inpt programs per stream. Filtering of inpt programs is accomplished by selecting a program and pressing the ENTER btton when the asterisk "*" appears. For example, the following is the seqence to filter program #2 on Inpt Modle #1: See Step 5 in Section 4.2 for details. IN1: Prog# WBTL-SD IN1: Prog# 2 * 6-2 WBTL-SD 5.2 ASI Inpt Modle: TSID Parameter This is a read only parameter indicating the Transport Stream Identification (TSID) of the inpt sorce. The FCC has assigned niqe TSID s to all DTV stations and are sed by receivers having advanced navigation featres. 5.3 ASI Inpt Modle: MJR Offset Parameter In addition to remapping of the original Minor-channel nmbers assigned by the broadcaster (see Section 5.2), yo can also remap the original Major-channel nmbers by assigning an MJR Offset vale as follows: 1. Using the t (L) or (R) bttons scroll to the ASI INPUT#x MENU. See Section 4.1 for details. 2. Using the p (UP) or q (DN) bttons scroll to INx: MJR Offset parameter. 3. Press on the ENTER btton ntil the blinking crsor is displayed. Press the t (L) or (R) and p (UP) or q (DN) bttons to arrive at the desired offset vale (range is integers from -999 to +999). 4. Press the ENTER btton again to apply the change to the nit s memory. Example: If channel nmbers displayed on TV set now are 7-1, 7-2, 7-3, 13-1, 13-2, 13-3 by setting the MJR Offset = 10 (positive 10), then the channel nmbers displayed on the TV will change to 17-1, 17-2, 17-3, 23-1, 23-2, If channel nmbers displayed on TV set now are 7-1, 7-2, 7-3, 13-1, 13-2, 13-3, by setting the MJR Offset = -10 (negative 10), then the channels displayed on the TV will be 7-1, 7-2, 7-3 (not remapped), 3-1, 3-2, 3-3 (remapped). Althogh negative Major Offset vales are allowed, negative Major-channel nmbers are not. If channel nmbers displayed on TV set now are 7-1, 7-2, 7-3, 13-1, 13-2, 13-3, by setting the MJR Offset = 990, then the channel nmbers displayed on the TV will be 997-1, 997-2, (remapped), 13-1, 13-2, and 13-3 (not remapped). Althogh positive Major Offset vales of p to 999 are allowed, Major-channel nmber cannot exceed 999.

16 DQMx Series 5.4 ASI Inpt Modle: PID Offset parameter PID (Packet Identifier) vales are embedded by the broadcasters in the MPEG-2 stream to identify, when present, the Minor-channel nmbers that are associated with any of the Major-channel nmbers. The PID Offset featre allows yo to remap the Minor Channel nmbers and the Program Channel nmbers. Two modes are spported for remapping of PID vales: Atomatic and Manal. The Factory defalt vale is Atomatic. In the Atomatic mode, when a dplicate PID vales is detected, the dplicate PID vale is incremented by one. In the Manal mode, yo can assign an offset vale as follows: 1. Using the t (L) or (R) bttons scroll to the 8VSB or ASI INPUT# MENU. See Section 4.1 for details. 2. Using the p (UP) or q (DN) bttons scroll to INx: PID Offset parameter. 3. Press on the ENTER btton ntil the blinking crsor is displayed. Press the t (L) or (R) and p (UP) or q (DN) bttons to arrive at the desired offset vale (range is integers from to +1023). 4. Press the ENTER btton again to apply the change to the nit s memory. Example: If channel nmbers displayed on TV set now are Major-channel 7-1 and Minor-channels 7-2, and 7-3, by setting the PID Offset = 10 (positive 10), then the channel nmbers displayed on the TV will change to 7-11, 7-12, and If channel nmbers displayed on TV set now are Major-channel 7-1 and Minor-channels 7-2, and 7-3, by setting the PID Offset = -10 (negative 10), then the channels displayed on the TV will remain 7-1, 7-2, and 7-3. Althogh negative PID Offset vales are allowed, negative Minor-channel nmbers are not. When entering a mins offset, a non-zero nmber mst be in the display before the nit allows the - sign to be toggled on. If channel nmbers displayed on TV set now are Major-channel 7-20 and Minor-channels 7-21, and 7-22, by setting the PID Offset = -10 (negative 10), then the channel nmbers displayed on the TV will change to 7-10, 7-11, and Before the PID Offset is applied, the nit will check for dplication across inpts and ato-corrects if necessary. If the Program nmbers received on the inpt are 1, 2 and 3, by setting the PID offset =+10, the program nmbers when viewed on the MUX Otpt Men wold then be "*Prog#11", "*Prog#12", and "*Prog#13". The "*" indicates that the program was remapped. Note that the PID offset affects both the minor channel nmbers and the program nmbers. SOME TV SETS WILL REQUIRE RE-SCANNING IN ORDER TO DISPLAY THE REVISED CHANNEL NUMBER ASSIGNMENTS. NOTE: The CVCT Mode allows the DQMx to set each virtal channel assignment as a one-part three-digit integer channel nmber (major) only for CATV applications (ie: 570 ) compared to the ATSC broadcast two-part format having major and minor channels (ie: 17-3 ). Directions for enabling the CVCT Mode (Cable Virtal Channel Table) are in Sections 8.2 and 8.9. First, there are important steps that mst be performed in this section to ensre that all inpt streams will be maintained consistently after going dark and then retrning or after AC power re-boots. 1. Confirm the CVCT Enable setting is NO (defalt setting). See section Connect all inpt streams and do any stream (program) filtering reqired to limit the otpt to a maximm of 12 programs. 3. Use the Manal Mode PID offset featre on inpts having the same program nmbers as another inpt. WHEN OPERATING THE DQMX IN CVCT MODE: DO NOT USE THE DEFAULT AUTOMATIC SETTING FOR PID OFFSETS BECAUSE AUTOMATIC PID REMAPPING AFTER POWER RE-BOOTS WILL RESULT IN DIFFERENT ASSIGNED PROGRAM NUMBERS. THIS APPEARS TO THE TV AS INCORRECT OR LOST CHANNEL NUMBERS AND MAY ADDITIONALLY REQUIRE TV S TO BE RE-SCANNED IN ORDER TO VIEW THE PROGRAMS. 5.5 ASI Inpt Modle: Program # Parameter This is a read-only parameter indicating for each inpt program its program nmber, the Major/Minor channel nmber, and the station call letters. The maximm nmber of inpt programs per stream is twelve (12). Please see Section 5.1 for procedres on how to filter ot ndesired inpt programs.

DQMx Series VSB/QAM Inpt Modle: General DQMx will atomatically detect the type of Inpt Modle that is installed on each of its for inpt slots. If an 8VSB/QAM Inpt Modle is detected, then the nit will search for the presence of an inpt stream on that modle and one of the following two messages will appear on the LCD. 8VSB INPUT# 1 Stream Present or 8VSB INPUT# 1 Stream Absent Programs, along with their program nmbers will be displayed on the LCD. Major/Minor channel nmbers and, when present, station call letters are also displayed. Twelve (12) is the maximm nmber of inpt programs per stream. Filtering of inpt programs is accomplished by selecting a program and pressing the ENTER btton when the asterisk "*" appears. For example, the following is the seqence to filter program #2 on Inpt Modle #1: IN1: Prog# WBTL-SD See Step 5 in Section 4.2 for details. IN1: Prog# 2 * 6-2 WBTL-SD Since the 8VSB/QAM Inpt Modle is capable of receiving inpt in both 8VSB and QAM format, yo mst configre the modle for yor applicable inpts. REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE INPUT STREAM TO THE 8VSB/QAM MODULE IS IN 8VSB (DIGITAL OFF-AIR) OR IN QAM (DIGITAL CABLE), THE WORD 8VSB IS DISPLAYED ON THE LCD VSB/QAM Inpt Modle: TSID Parameter This is a read only parameter indicating the Transport Stream Identification (TSID) of the inpt sorce. The FCC has assigned niqe TSID s to all DTV stations and are sed by receivers having advanced navigation featres VSB/QAM Inpt Modle: MJR Offset Parameter In addition to remapping of the original Minor-channel nmbers assigned by the broadcaster (see Section 5.10), yo can also remap the original Major-channel nmbers by assigning an MJR Offset vale as follows: 1. Using the t (L) or (R) bttons scroll to the 8VSB INPUT#x MENU.

18 DQMx Series 5.9 8VSB/QAM Inpt Modle: PID Offset parameter PID (Packet Identifier) vales are embedded by the broadcasters in the MPEG-2 stream to identify, when present, the Minor-channel nmbers, that are associated with any of the Major-channel nmbers. The PID Offset featre allows yo to remap these original vales if yo wish. Using the t (L) or (R) bttons scroll to the 8VSB INPUT#x MENU. THIS APPEARS TO THE TV AS INCORRECT OR LOST CHANNEL NUMBERS AND MAY ADDITIONALLY REQUIRE TV S TO BE RE-SCANNED IN ORDER TO VIEW THE PROGRAMS VSB/QAM Inpt Modle: Bad Rate parameter Bad Rate (or modlation rate) is the nmber of distinct symbol (or signaling) changes made to the QAM transmission medim per second. The measrement nit is typically in Mega Bads (MBd) which is synonymos to Mega symbols per seconds (Msps). It follows then, that the Bad Rate is dependent on the selection of the QAM modlation modes referenced in Section 5.5. The nit atomatically assigns the appropriate Bad Rate for each QAM modlation type, for example: The assigned Bad Rate is MBD, when CATV QAM 64B is selected. The assigned Bad Rate is MBD, when CATV QAM 256B is selected.

DQMx Series 19 It is not recommended to change the above assigned vales, however, to change the factory defalt vale, follow these steps: 1. 20 20 DQMx Series Section 6 - QAM Men 6.1 General The QAM MENU allows yo to configre the QAM otpt of the nit. The seven (7) possible configrable parameters shown in Section 4.1 are explained in detail in this section. However, the following two stats messages are applicable when yo are in the "QAM MENU": "Stats: OK" Inpt program streams are present and all otpt parameters are set and operating correctly. "Stats: MUTE" Indicates that there are NO streams present on any inpt modles while the QAM Mode is set to "Normal" or "Inverted". To redce broadband noise in the system, the nit disables the QAM otpt when there are no inpt streams present. QAM MENU Stats: OK or QAM MENU Stats: CommError! 6.2 QAM Men: Gray Mode parameter Gray codes are sed to improve error correction. For example, in QAM modlation, the signal's constellation diagram is arranged so that the bit patterns conveyed by adjacent constellation points differ by only one bit. By combining this with FEC capable of correcting single-bit errors, it is possible for a receiver to correct any transmission errors that case a constellation point to deviate into the area of an adjacent point. This makes the transmission system less ssceptible to noise. Two (2) options, only when Encode Mode is ITU-T Annex A, are available: DAVIC and DVB. The factory defalt is DAVIC. It is not recommended to change the above assigned vale, however, to change the factory defalt vale, follow these steps: 1. Using the t (L) or (R) bttons scroll to the QAM MENU. See Section 4.1 for details. 2. Using the p (UP) or q (DN) bttons scroll to QAM: GRAY Mode parameter. 3. Press on the ENTER btton ntil the blinking crsor is displayed. Press the p (UP) or q (DN) bttons to arrive at the desired vale. 4. Press the ENTER btton again to apply the change to the nit s memory. 6.3 QAM Men: Interleave parameter Interleaving is a techniqe sed in conjnction with FEC (Forward Error Correction) to correct for the QAM errors that are indced by brst noise. The nit employs a convoltional interleaver. Most television sets eqipped with a QAM tner se the factory defalt interleaving scheme. However, some QAM set-top boxes may se an interleaving scheme different from or factory defalt vale. To change the factory defalt vale, follow these steps: 1. Using the t (L) or (R) bttons scroll to the QAM MENU. See Section 4.1 for details. 2. Using the p (UP) or q (DN) bttons scroll to QAM: Interleave parameter. 3. To redce broadband noise in the system, the nit disables the QAM otpt when there are no inpt streams present. Stats: Overflow Error! Indicates that total otpt bandwidth exceeds the maximm data rate for the "QAM Mode" and "Modlation" parameters that have been selected. The maximm data rate that can be transported in 256 QAM otpt is approximately 38.8 Mbps. See Section 9 for more details. 8.2 MUX Otpt: "CVCT Enable" parameter The DQMx defalt setting is No. When this mode is enabled (yes selected), major and minor channel nmbers and names can be added or edited nder the MUX Otpt / Program # ( Section 8.9) men. The DQMx creates and maintains the CVCT (cable virtal channel table) and MGT (master gide table) in this mode. BEFORE ENABLING CVCT VERIFY THAT: ALL INPUT STREAMS ARE CONNECTED AND REQUIRED PROGRAM FILTERING TO ENSURE A MAXIMUM OF 12 PROGRAMS HAS BEEN DONE. SEE SECTIONS 4.2.5, 5.1 AND 5.6 FOR PROGRAM FILTERING INSTRUCTIONS. PID OFFSETS HAVE BEEN MANUALLY ASSIGNED TO PREVENT DUPLICATE PROGRAM NUMBERS. THE DEFAULT AUTO PID SETTING SHOULD NOT BE USED WITH THE CVCT FEATURE BECAUSE DATA ERRORS WILL OCCUR FROM DIFFERENT PROGRAM NUMBERS BEING AUTOMATICALLY ASSIGNED AFTER AC POWER CYCLING. ERRORS MAY APPEAR AS DIFFERENT DISPLAYED CHANNEL NUMBERS OR COMPLETELY LOST PROGRAMS REQUIRING USERS TO RE-SCAN THEIR TV S. SEE SECTIONS 5.4 & 5.9 FOR DETAILS. 8.3 MUX Otpt: "Ot TSID" parameter User can set a Transport Stream Identification nmber by pressing the ENTER btton ntil a blinking crsor is displayed. The program #, the Major/Minor channel #, and channel's call letters are displayed when available. See Sections 5.1 and 5.6 for information on filtered programs shold any desired programs not appear on the otpt. Twelve (12) is the maximm nmber of otpt programs. Merged PSI/PSIP tables are atomatically generated when a stream is added to the inpt modles. Tables are also pdated atomatically when a new stream or table revision is detected. An asterisk "*" indicates that the program was remapped as shown in the example below. MUX:Prog #1 6-1 WBTL-HD MUX:*Prog #2 6-2 WBTL-SD (Not Remapped) (Remapped) CVCT Enabled = Yes When CVCT is enabled, major/minor channel # s and the channel s call letters or name can be changed by navigating to the desired program nmber, pressing enter ntil the crsor blinks and making changes with the p, down, left and right arrow keys. Once the desired changes have been made, press enter again to save them. Allowable entries are as follows: Major Channel: 1 thr 999 Minor Channel: 0 thr 999 Note that setting the minor channel to 0 (zero) will make the television receiver display only the major channel nmber. CATV digital channel designations se a three-part integer channel nmber as this (29, 570, etc) in comparison to the ATSC broadcast standard with major and minor channels (2-1, 2-2 etc.). See NOTE in sections 5.4 & 5.9 concerning PID offsets when CVCT is enabled. IMPORTANT SEE NOTES IN SECTIONS 5.4 AND 5.9 CONCERNING THE NEED TO USE THE MANUAL PID OFFSET SETTING WHEN USING THE CVCT MODE TO AVOID POTENTIAL UNIT OPERATIONAL PROBLEMS AFTER POWER CYCLING.

DQMx Series 25 Section 9 Freqently Asked Qestions 1. Qestion: What is the maximm nmber of inpt program streams per inpt modle and per DQMx? Answer: The maximm nmber of inpt program streams per inpt modle is 12, with a maximm of 48 program streams per flly loaded (4 Inpt Modles) DQMx. 2. Qestion: What is the maximm inpt data rate per modle and per DQMx? Answer: The inpt data rate is dependent on program content. The 270Mbps ASI physical interface exceeds the 38.8 Mbps for QAM Qestion: What happens when more than 12 inpt program streams are presented to an inpt modle? Answer: The additional program streams are not recognized by the DQMx and cannot be mltiplexed on to the QAM otpt. 4. Qestion: What is the maximm nmber of mltiplexed program streams and the maximm data rate that can be otpt? Answer: The maximm nmber of mltiplexed program streams capable of being otpt is 12, and the total data rate of these 12 program streams cannot exceed approximately 19.4 Mbps for a QAM 64 modlation, or 38.8 Mbps for a QAM 256 modlation. 5. Qestion: What happens when the maximm nmber of mltiplexed program streams or the maximm otpt data rates are exceeded? Answer: Any programs in excess of 12 that have been selected for otpt will not be mltiplexed. If the aggregate data rate of all the mltiplexed program streams exceeds 38.8 Mbps, tiling will occr on all mltiplexed program streams. It is common for all data rates to flctate or brst in conjnction with the complexity of the program stream s video content. Factors that contribte to bandwidth brsting are: a. High contrast levels b. Motion c. Complexity of visal textres 6. Format Qestion: Are there any data rate standards that can be sed in order to properly plan the mltiplexed otpt? Answer: The table below can be sed as a rogh gideline. Definition Typical Brsting MPEG-2 Standard 3 4 Mbps 6 Mbps MPEG-2 High 12 Mbps 17 Mbps MPEG-4 Standard Mbps 3 Mbps MPEG-4 High 6 Mbps 10 Mbps

26 DQMx Series Freqently Asked Qestions (contined) 7. Qestion: What happens if a programmed, operational DQMx loses power? Answer: The nit has a non-volatile memory that stores all of nit settings so that it can resme normal operation after going throgh its reboot seqence. Crrently, PIDs are not stored in non-volatile memory. This implies that remapping will occr pon power-p. 8. Qestion: What if the ASI inpt sorces do not have any PSIP information to set the major/minor channel nmbers and short names? Answer: These fields will be blank. Programs will only be identified by their MPEG program nmbers. 9. Qestion: What if the program data in ASI streams change? (Example: set-p with stream 1 containing 4 fixed programs then one or more drop, and/or drop and add at different times). Answer: Stream is remapped pon detection of a new PAT or PMT. Changes in the stream content are conveyed with new versions of the PAT/PMT tables. The nit atomatically remaps pon detection of a table version pdate. 10. Qestion: What if the program data changes locations? (program 1 on stream 1 now becomes program 3 on stream 1 and program 1 is black screen). Answer: Stream is remapped pon detection of a new PAT or PMT. Changes in the stream content are conveyed with new versions of the PAT/PMT tables. The nit atomatically remaps pon detection of a table version pdate. 11. Qestion: What if error messages occr? Answer: "MUX Otpt Error": "Stats: CommError!": There is an internal hardware error. "Stats: CfgError": "Stats: NotLocked": Dring the boot-p seqence, if the following message shold appear on the LCD screen and not go away, there is an internal hardware error. This error may appear if the Bad Rate has been manally changed from the standard defalt settings shown in Section 4.1 If the Bad Rate is correct for the QAM Mode and Modlation scheme selected in the nit, then yo need to retrn the nit for repairs. There is an internal hardware error. Yo can reach or or ex

DQMx Series 27 Appendix A: Measring the QAM Otpt Signal Level To ensre that the QAM otpt power level indicated on the LCD screen is indeed accrate, yo can also measre the tre eqivalent signal level for the QAM carrier sing the CW (Carrier Wave) signal. The nit is capable of spplying the CW signal which simplifies the measrement process becase the otpt level does not need to be adjsted for the bandwidth setting limitations of the spectrm analyzer. Once the QAM mode is set at CW (please see Section 6.2 for instrctions), then any meter that can measre CW power level can be sed to compare the otpt level entered via the key-pad and the CW power level which is eqal to the tre QAM power level that will be presented in the NORMAL mode. The diagram below shows the measrement made on a typical nit when the otpt level was selected at 60 dbmv sing the key-pad. The actal measred otpt (in CW mode) is dbmv.
