2 Selecting a Projection Screen Draper manufactures the finest and most complete line of projection screens in the world. We want to help you incorporate these screens into the most effective presentation systems. Planning a projection system involves several steps: choosing the screen size, viewing surface, screen model and control system (if required). Here are some tips to help with these important decisions. For more detailed recommendations, visit us online at: Projection Screen Selection Determine the correct size based upon The dimensions of the audience area. The projection format(s) to be used, or aspect ratio: the screen's height and width configuration, formatted for the desired projection source. Audience Area Make the screen large enough so those in the back row can read it, but not so large as to overwhelm the closest viewer. Height Use the following to calculate screen height for maximum legibility: for 4:3 NTSC moving video, screen height should be at least ¹ ₆ the distance from the screen to the furthest seat; for charts and data, use ¼; for complex graphics, use 1/2. For HDTV projection, screen height should be at least ¹ 3 the distance from the screen to the optimum seat. Width Determined by the height of the screen and the projection format(s) see formats below. Ceiling Height The bottom of the screen should be approximately above a level floor with several rows of seats. In rooms with theatre seating or only one or two rows, the bottom of the screen can be lower. Extra drop may be required in a room with a high ceiling. Projection Format The size you've calculated above may be modified based on projection equipment. Common Projection Formats Draper screens are offered in Audio Visual, NTSC Video, 16:10, HDTV, WideScreen, and CinemaScope formats. Screens with Draper's Tab Tensioning System always include black borders and 12 of black drop at the top. Audio Visual (or AV) format screens are described in terms of height x width, and are furnished without black borders, although borders are optionally available. NTSC video format screens are defined as a 4:3 rectangle, and the size is described in terms of a nominal diagonal. NTSC, 16:10, HDTV and WideScreen format screens are furnished with black borders on all four sides. 3 Textile Backed Screen Surfaces A reflective surface laminated to a woven textile base. The screen surface hangs suitably flat because of the stability of the material and the weight of the bottom dowel. Good for all types of projection. Matt White Diffuses projected light in all directions, so image can be seen from any angle. Has accurate color rendition and superior clarity. Requires control of ambient light in the audience area. Washable, flame and mildew resistant. Glass Beaded Spherical glass beads embedded in surface provide brighter on-axis viewing than Matt White, within a narrower viewing cone. Glass beaded surfaces have some loss of clarity and perform best with table-mounted projectors. Flame and mildew resistant, cannot be cleaned. Seamless in standard sizes through 1 high. High Contrast Grey Grey surface offers excellent resolution while enhancing blacks, even as whites and lighter colors are maintained. Performs well in ambient light. Lower gain of 0.8 allows use with even the brightest projectors. Seamless in sizes up to 8 in height. AT1200 and AT Grey Similar in gain performance to Matt White, with acoustical properties comparable to the finest speaker grille cloth. Washable, flame and mildew resistant. Available in sizes through 72 x 96 or 10 NTSC diagonal. AT1200 is white; AT Grey is grey for high contrast. Acoustically transparent fabrics are not recommended for screens smaller than 80 wide when used with LCD or DLP projectors. Tensioned Screen Surfaces M2500 A high-contrast front viewing surface with excellent resolution and high gain. M2500 tolerates a higher ambient light level than most other front projection screen surfaces. HiDef Grey A grey front projection surface that provides excellent contrast and black reproduction with a low gain to handle today's super-bright projectors. Enhances color contrast, black levels and allows for more ambient light. Cineflex A neutral grey vinyl for rear projection. Cineflex has high resolution and excellent contrast, even in lighted rooms. For use with any type of projection equipment. Lower Gain version of Cineflex is also available. Contrast the ability to accurately reproduce and differentiate light and dark colors. Ambient light rejection properties the ability to perform well under normal to adverse audience lighting conditions. Resolution the clarity of the projected image. Uniformity the screen's performance when viewed from points off the projection axis (horizontally or vertically), and when the brightness of the center of the image is compared to the corners Viewing Angle 50 Viewing Angle Glass Beaded Gain Viewing Angle High Contrast Grey & AT Grey Gain Viewing Angle M1300 Gain M1300 The perfect Matt White diffusing surface. For use with any type of projector in rooms where light can be reasonably controlled. Washable. Gain a relative measure of a screen's reflectivity. Charts (shown above) depict gain values (reflectivity) at various points, measured in degrees from projection axis. These charts help judge uniformity. The flatter the curve in the portion of the viewing cone where viewers sit, the more consistent the image they will perceive. The quality of the image we perceive is primarily a function of gain, contrast, uniformity and resolution. Gain These screen surfaces are tensioned vinyl with no textile backing. Draper offers motorized, crank-operated and permanently tensioned screens with built-in tensioning systems. Advantage The surface is stretched perfectly flat, resulting in better picture quality. Highly recommended for video or data-graphics projection. Draper's EcoVision range of viewing surfaces: Matt White, High Contrast Grey, M1300, and HiDef Grey are GREENGUARD Children and Schools certified fabrics. This is the strictest standard for indoor air quality, designed to protect vulnerable children in the spaces they occupy for several hours every day. 6 Ceiling Recessed Screens Access Concept Access/Series V, Series E, & Series M Now/Screen Later A Draper innovation, the essence of the Access concept is a ceilingrecessed, extruded-aluminum headbox designed to be installed during construction. The screen itself (viewing surface attached to a roller) can either be furnished with the headbox or at any time thereafter, allowing you to make final decisions about your screen surface later. Job site damage during construction can be avoided with the Access. The screen itself installs in minutes, and the only tool you need is a hex key. Quickly and easily change viewing surfaces, sizes, or formats later. Access Easy Installation Easy Access Designed with solutions in mind, the case features include: R Telus House conference room Toronto, Ontario. LEED Silver Certified. Photography Ron de Vries Toronto, Ontario ❶ Hanging brackets slide in channels on top of the case. Allows unlimited adjustment to avoid interference with structures above the ceiling. ❷ A pre-wired junction box inside left end and a pre-drilled cable exit hole on top. Cable leads are approximately 12. ❸ Compact case with a white flange around the perimeter to support ceiling tile or trim out rough ceiling opening. ❹ "Pin connector" electrical connection of screen motor to internal junction box eliminates the need for tools. ❺ Bottom panel of the case forms a slot for fabric passage and is removable without tools for installation or replacement of screen. The screen (motor-in-roller with fabric attached) comes with easy-to-install latching brackets. Latching brackets slide along a track inside the top of the case, so the case can accommodate different sizes of screens. A large case allows for maximum flexibility. UL approved for use in environmental air space. Access Ultimate Access One step further. The Ultimate Access offers all the advantages of the Access, plus an independently motorized ceiling closure. In its closed position, the motorized closure forms a solid bottom panel ❻ giving the ceiling a clean appearance. At the touch of a switch or wireless transmitter, the door of the Ultimate Access opens into the case ❼ before the viewing surface descends into the room. Your audience will be impressed by its precision timing and quiet, fluid movement. Finally, the entire closure extends down as required for screen installation or adjustment ❽. R ❽ Ultimate Access

21 Permanently Tensioned Screens StageScreen The first projection screen designed specifically to be flown. Intended for stages, lecture halls, and other large venues, the StageScreen is a totally new concept in projection screen design. It was engineered specifically to be flown, or it can be conveniently wall mounted. It is the strongest and most rigid screen on the market. The truss system is completely modular. All available sizes of StageScreen are built from combinations of the same 6 standard color-coded frame sections pictured below. The StageScreen utilizes an 8 (20cm) truss that is significantly stronger than other permanently tensioned screens. It is engineered to hold tolerance after repeated usage. Color coded frame sections ensure fast and easy assembly. No hinges, no snaps, and no Handy Cranks are involved. Frame sections are connected with permanently attached threaded links and guide pins. Each frame segment is clearly labeled and color-coded. StageScreen features a revolutionary new viewing surface attachment method. Using the attached DuraLoop bungee cord loops with handy nylon pulltabs, simply hook the surface to the posts on the frame. DuraLoops are longer lasting than traditional snaps, and provide even self-centering tension for the viewing surface. : Viewing surfaces Black-Backed M1300, M2500, HiDef Grey, or Cineflex rear projection surface. 24 Draper Lifts for Projectors and Flatscreen Displays Draper offers the most sophisticated, comprehensive and functional line of lifts for projectors and flatscreen displays. Seven different models of motorized projector lifts are designed to help you mount the projector of your choice at or above the ceiling line, in a table top, or in a wall. Revelation You won't see or hear the projector. The Draper Revelation permanently conceals the projector (and its noise) above the ceiling at all times. You won't see or hear the projector. You'll only see a hinged door in the ceiling, finished in white. At the heart of the Revelation's dual first surface mirror system are two optical-grade glass mirrors that are 94% reflective. This mirror system provides for optimum flatness and reflectivity. Environmental Airspace Housing Aluminum housing isolates projector from environmental airspace above ceiling. Includes intake and exhaust fan systems. Glass Shield Made of anti-reflective glass and installed between the Revelation and the mirrored door. Reduces projector noise by an additional 80%, and further guards the projector. Virtually none of the projected light is lost as it passes through the Shield. Ceiling Access Door 2 x 2 hinged door provides above-the-ceiling access for cleaning, maintenance or repairs while preventing ceiling damage. Available in white finish or recessed to accept ceiling tile. Controls Includes 1 wall switch. See website for other control options. U.S. Patent No. 6,379,012. FlatScreen Lift Conceal a flatscreen inside your own cabinetry or furniture, and raise it into view for showtime. Always aiming high, Draper's FlatScreen Lift far surpasses the competition. Its "stored" dimensions are significantly more compact, and yet the maximum extended height is greater than any other model currently available. Draper's FlatScreen Lift is available in three sizes, accommodating virtually any available model of display up to 65 diagonal. Features easy "drop-in" installation into your cabinetry or furniture, and a unique customizable secondary shelf beneath the display. Draper's FlatScreen Lift offers smooth acceleration and braking, which prevents "jarring" of the display during operation. In addition, Power Surge Line Overload Protection is built in, preventing spikes in power from damaging your television. : RS232 and IR remote control optionally available. US Patent No. 7,128,

Phantom uses a precision actuator to quickly and quietly dip the projector out of the ceiling into the "show" position just below the ceiling line at the touch of a switch or wireless transmitter. The projector is easily aligned and fine-tuned during installation to provide a direct light path onto your Draper projection screen. Hide the Phantom in a tabletop when ceiling installation is not possible or desirable. Two models to choose from as determined by size of projector. Environmental Airspace Housing Aluminum housing isolates projector and lift from environmental airspace above the ceiling. Ceiling Access Door 2 x 2 hinged door provides above-the-ceiling access for cleaning, maintenance or repairs while preventing ceiling damage. Available in white finish or recessed to accept ceiling tile. Controls Includes one wall switch. See website for other control options. Orbiter You won't see the projector until it orbits into place. The Orbiter is conveniently sized to fit in small ceiling cavities. Alternatively, it installs vertically in walls to conceal small LCD displays, or hides projectors in boardroom conference tables. You can easily fine-tune the limit settings and tilt adjustments. Two Orbiter models to choose from, as determined by size of projector. Operated by optional IR or RF remote control, standard wall switch, or integrated into your control system, Orbiter will add a touch of sophistication to any room. Add the angled ceiling adapter to install the Orbiter into angled ceilings and walls for projectors, video conferencing cameras, or other equipment. Environmental Airspace Housing Aluminum housing isolates projector and lift from environmental airspace above the ceiling. Angled Ceiling Adapter Allows infinite limit adjustment from 0 to 90. Ceiling Access Door 2 x 2 hinged door provides above-the-ceiling access for cleaning, maintenance or repairs while preventing ceiling damage. Available in white finish or recessed to accept ceiling tile. Controls Includes one wall switch. See website for other control options

26 Micro Projector Lift Designed for today's smaller projectors. The Micro Projector Lift (MPL) is small and convenient, just like the projectors it is designed to accommodate. Weighing only 35 pounds, it can be installed in an existing x ceiling opening without disturbing the ceiling framework. The projector's "show" position can be set at any point with infinite adjustability, up to 48 extension. The Micro Projector Lift utilizes the same exclusive 3-scissor design as Draper's popular Scissor Lift (see page 27), but features a compact sidefolding scissor. The load is lifted by two 1 wide Kevlar straps. Safety belt provides extra protection. Closed height of lifting unit is only tall (not including projector, mounting mechanism or closure), so a minimal amount of overhead ceiling space is required. Environmental Airspace Housing Aluminum housing isolates projector and lift from environmental airspace above the ceiling. Ceiling closure panel White closure panel is optional and can also be adapted to attach ceiling tile to match surrounding ceiling. Ceiling closure panel option shown in photos at right. Ceiling finish kit Ceiling closure panel and ceiling trim ring to finish ceiling opening. MPL installation featuring optional ceiling closure at DePauw University's Green Center for the Performing Arts, Greencastle, IN. Photography by Wayne Williams, Indianapolis, IN. 27 Scissor Lift Series SL & SLX Scissor lift with "store, show and service" positions. Scissor Lift retracts your projector to ceiling level or above, then lowers it to projection and service positions set to your specifications. A patented design with scissors on the left, right and back sides stabilize the projector from any sway both laterally and front to back. The movement of the pan is driven by a gearmotor with a powerful, reliable metal chain drive system. Equipped with a fail-safe inertial safety belt system, and a cable management system that brings a pre-wired power cable right to your projector. Operation is 11 V; switching is 12V. Lifting capacity is 3 lbs. SL Models lower projector up to 10 Seven Scissor Lift SL models offer "service" positions ranging from 4 to 10. 29 TorkStar Utility Line Set TorkStar is an inherently safe, simple lifting system designed to raise and lower a wide range of products commonly used on stages, in gymnasiums and churches and other public venues. It consists of a motor winch and one or more PosiSpools, connected by a drive shaft and mounted to the ceiling structure. TorkStar utilizes aircraft cable lift lines with a lifting capacity of 500 pounds each. Motor winch / PosiSpool spacing and total lifting capacity of the system vary depending upon winch selection. TorkStar eliminates the need for stepladders, scaffolding, or lifts to service or change lamps, filters, or other ceiling suspended items. In the event of an electrical outage or motor failure, the motor winch and each PosiSpool has sufficient braking capacity to arrest the entire system. Use TorkStar to raise and lower: Projection Screens, Lighting, Speakers, Backdrops, Scenery, Draperies, Curtains, Scrims, Signs, Banners, Flags, Chandeliers, etc. TorkStar Components: The required components for your TorkStar system will vary depending on your installation. 30 Rear Projection Screens Each rear projection system needs to fit its environment: audience seating, projector (light output, resolution, image format) and room light level. Draper provides rigid rear projection screen systems to fit any need. IRUS When legibility is the key. The Infinite Resolution Uniformity Screen is specifically designed for maximum legibility with high resolution projectors. Uniform center to corner brightness Superior color reproduction and excellent contrast Unique antiglare finish on ¼ acrylic substrate 1. gain across a 180 viewing cone Vortex Combining the best of optical and diffusion rear screen technology. The Vortex is a marriage of optical and diffusion technologies. A 0.5 mm Fresnel lens directs light from the projector at a right angle through the screen. As the light exits the screen on audience side, a diffusion medium redistributes the light evenly in all directions. Wide viewing cone in both the horizontal and vertical axes Extraordinary center-to-corner brightness ratio Great in videowalls and rooms with tiered seating patterns. Difficult to scratch or damage. DiamondScreen Offering the brightest and most uniform image. The DiamondScreen delivers incredible optical performance with its patented Fresnel/lenticular lens system. Its amazing uniformity and brightness allows you to turn the brightness down on your projector to save energy and lamp life. The world's most sophisticated, efficient rear projection screen A panoramic 180 horizontal viewing cone, and the largest vertical viewing cone of any product of its type High Contrast Grey optical tint, for superior color contrast Anti-reflective properties for superior performance even under conditions of high ambient light Superior corner-to-center brightness ratio, with no hot spots 3.5 gain on axis Telus House conference room Toronto, Ontario. LEED Silver Certified. Photography Ron de Vries Toronto, Ontario Cinescreen Draper's Cinescreen line of diffusion screens uses the finest plate glass and clear acrylic as substrates. Choose the ideal combination of substrate, coating, and tint to meet your needs. Substrates Cineglass Provides maximum sound isolation, scratch resistance, service life and rigidity. Must be installed by a glazier due to weight. Glass recommended for use with multiple projectors. Cineplex Lightweight and durable. Easy to install. Optical coating determines the brightness and contrast levels of the image, while providing inherent abrasion resistance. Optical tint influences image contrast and color value. Optical Coatings Cine 10 Gain of 1.0. Cine 13 Gain of 1.3. Cine 15 Gain of 1.5. Optical Tints HC High Contrast dark grey tint (e.g. Cine 13HC). NG Neutral grey tint. Standard formulation (e.g. Cine 13NG). W White optical tint (e.g. Cine 13W). : ArmorKote The toughest rear screen protective coating available to help resist solvents, grease, oil, ammonia, and normal impacts from fingernails, pointers, pencils, and pens. NonGlare Anti-reflective coating. Slightly diminishes resol ution. Installation Factory-installed Cineframe. See below.
