11 About the Edge Blending Function in Span Mode If you project one image to two projectors for a 32:9 aspect image and try to simply butt the two images together, a visible gap or line at the center is unavoidable. To hide this gap, two images can be projected sharing a center overlapping area. However, this central area will be brighter because both projectors are displaying the same data in the same location as shown below. fig.before-edge-blend.eps A B You can create a seamless join using the Edge Blending function. A gradation is used on each image in the overlapping area to minimize the gap. To select the position and adjust the width of the overlapping area, select [Width] of [Edge Blending] in the OUTPUT menu. fig.efter-edge-blend.eps A B You can also execute gamma correction to the overlapping area after brightness adjustment. Set gamma correction parameters according to the characteristics or specifications of the projectors you are using. 11
12 Edge Blending Menu You can execute Edge Blending settings in the OUTPUT menu. fig.edge-blend-menu.eps Edge Blending Width This includes parameters to adjusts the blur width of four edges. Top This adjusts the blur width of the top edge. Bottom This adjusts the blur width of the bottom edge. Right This adjusts the blur width of the right edge. Left This adjusts the blur width of the left edge. Offset * This adjusts the brightness of areas that are not overlapping. Black This adjusts the amount of offset to black. Gray This adjusts the amount of offset to gray. White This adjusts the amount of offset to white. Gray Position This selects the brightness of gray for offset adjustment. Gamma This selects type of signal decrement (gamma curve) according to the characteristics/specifications of the projector. Gamma Control Point This adjusts the control point of the gamma curve. Position Width Gain This specifies the position of the gamma curve control point. This specifies the width of the gamma curve to be controlled. This adjusts the gamma at specified point with specified width. * The Offset parameter is used to balance the base brightness of the projectors when simply displaying black (no image). For Offset and Gamma adjustments, refer to Offset and Gamma Adjustment on next page. 12
13 Offset and Gamma Adjustment Adjust Offset and Gamma parameters as below if necessary. 1. Adjust offset As shown on page 11, the overlapping area can have a tendency to show a brighter picture. Adjust the brightness of the nonoverlapping area to obtain uniformed brightness across the screen. Adjust [Black] value in [Offset]. If adjustment of [Black] is not enough, adjust [Gray] value and [White] value. Changing [Gray Position] value (0-1023) determines the point to increase or decrease in [Gray] adjustment. 2. Select a gamma curve According to the characteristics of the connected projector, select a gamma curve in [Gamma]. You can select one from [1.00] to [5.00]. 3. Fine-tune gamma curve It is possible to fine-tune the gamma curve you select in [Gamma]. Select a point (1-8) using [Gamma Control Point] and adjust the parameters as shown below. Position Move the point and select what part of the line you want to adjust. Width Specify width of the area that will be effected around the [Position] point. Gain Specify the distance (up or down) of the selected point and width. fig.gamma-curve.eps Position Width Gain 13
