COMPANY MAINSTAGE THE HANDMAID S TALE OCTOBER 10-14, 2018 Acclaimed choreographer Lila York preserves author Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale s prophetic spirit and human story, creating a powerful and poignant interpretation of this gripping tale. York s dance drama transports audiences, with thrilling effect, to an oppressive, dystopian world. ROMEO & JULIET FEBRUARY 13-17, 20 Shakespeare s timeless tragedy is given a beautiful and thought-provoking telling in this masterpiece of dance and drama. The splendour of sixteenth-century Verona is recreated in this full-length ballet that demands the most of a dancer s personal capacity to create a role. The RWB has a loyal and growing audience of subscribers and single ticket buyers. The audience is approximately 60% female, with post-secondary education and a household income of $100,000+. In addition to our core demographic, the ballet is increasingly attracting the 18-34 demographic through a targeted program called Access Pointe. Each mainstage production attracts approximately 5,000 patrons, providing advertisers with a highly engaged, enthusiastic audience. THE WIZARD OF OZ CANADIAN PREMIERE! MAY 1-5, 20 L. Frank Baum s tale of family, friendship, and courage is vividly brought to life by choreographer Septime Webre in the Canadian premiere of The Wizard of Oz. Join Dorothy, the Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion as they journey down the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City. ANNUAL BEST SELLER! Every December, the Centennial Concert Hall comes alive with the timeless magic of the RWB s Nutcracker. This Winnipeg tradition attracts nearly 12,000 patrons each year who range from small children attending with their parents and grandparents, to adults who have made this production part of their annual holiday festivities. NUTCRACKER DECEMBER -29, 2018 Rediscover the magic of your childhood as the clock strikes midnight and the adventure of a lifetime begins. Before the final curtain falls, Clara will battle the evil Mouse King, fall in love with her dashing Nutcracker prince and find herself on a storybook journey that will take her into the heart of a timeless fairytale. As much a part of the holiday season as pond hockey and mistletoe, Nutcracker is an adventure that needs to be experienced more than once. SPECIAL COMPANY & PROFESSIONAL DIVISION BALLET & THE BAND MARCH 28-30, 20 The phrase in concert comes full circle in an all-new artistic collaboration between Juno-award winning The Bros. Landreth and up-and-coming choreographer Philippe Larouche. This fresh addition to the RWB season also showcases work from Mark Godden and emerging choreographer Jera Wolfe for a diverse evening of performances. These productions are part of our six ballet subscription package. Ballet & the Band will take place at Pantages Playhouse Theatre. Spotlight is at Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre s John Hirsch Mainstage and On the Edge will be held at RWB s very own Founders Studio. These are more intimate venues with fewer performance dates, which is reflected in ad pricing. SPOTLIGHT MAY 23-25, 20 The RWB School Professional Division comes together once a year to share its stories and successes in this captivating production. Performing excerpts from beloved classical story ballets and original works, this brilliant group of young dancers will capture your hearts with their dedication, talent, and spirit. ON THE EDGE JUNE 5-7, 20 On the Edge gives audiences a front-row seat to experience the passion and intensity of RWB School Aspirants during this diverse programme of new creations and timeless classics. On the Edge will sweep you away with provoking narratives and the fearlessness of dancers about to embark on a professional career in dance.
