Welcome and Overview Dear Parents and Dancers, With summer fast approaching, we hope you are becoming as excited as we are with anticipation of our summer intensives. In preparation for the program, we have prepared this orientation and arrival packet for your review. It is chock full of information regarding arrival, on- site orientation, staff contact information, summer activities & shows, performance details and so forth. While attending the Summer Intensive program in New York, students will also be exposed to New York s unparalleled dance community. Not only will students receive world- class training, but they will also have the opportunity to see performances by New York s resident companies; such as American Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet, and many other major American and international dance companies. You will find a description of all of our after- school activities in this packet, as well as directions on how to buy tickets. We have a limited number of tickets (which always get sold out!!), so please sign up and buy the tickets as soon as possible. Orientation and Arrival Orientation and arrival times are dependent on your housing assignments: If you are staying at the Pace Dormitory or Grove Dormitory you will receive an orientation for the program and the housing facilities on Sunday evening at 6:45PM (for Pace) or 7PM (for Grove) after you check in. Please follow the arrival directions you have received from the housing staff. On Monday you will go straight to class. If you are staying at our St. George Dormitory or are not staying at our housing facilities at all, then you will attend the Orientation on Monday morning in Studio 6 located at the Main Joffrey Campus (address below). Please arrive at 8 AM and proceed to Studio 6. Airport Transfer to Housing For those of you who have signed up for the Joffrey airport transfer service it is important that you enter in all your flight and arrival information online. Your booking is not confirmed until we have received all the information and issued you an airport transfer specific confirmation number (this is not your receipt number you received when you registered online). If you have questions regarding the process or wish to confirm your reservation is made, please contact Karolyn Byers at joffrey.airporttransportation@gmail.com. Schedules and Class Assignment Specific schedules will be handed out at orientation. Class start times are staggered. If you are commuting you can expect that your first class will start between 8:30 and 10:30 in the morning. Please be aware that during the first few weeks of the program in June the number of students attending the program is smaller than during the busy performance weeks. To maintain the correct class size, you can expect that a few classes will be split into two separate groups as we approach July, so your class assignment may change from one week to another. This will be made clear to you when you receive your assignment. After- School Activities and Shows We have arranged for after- school activities to enhance the experience and complement the training of the students in New York. From Alvin Ailey to American Ballet Theater to Broadway shows, the activities are designed to expose the students to dance as it is performed by professionals in venues around the city. All activities are chaperoned by Joffrey Staff, to and from the event and the dormitories. If you are a commuter student you will be informed where to meet the group.

At the end of the packet is a description of each of the activities, their cost, and the dates they are offered. The details of the activities and online registration can be found at http://joffreyballetschool.com/nyc- ballet- intensive- extra- activities.html. Tickets are limited and always sell out so please sign up for them as soon as you can. Please be aware we add a small surcharge, typically five dollars, to the cost of the ticket printed on the stub to cover the cost of providing the chaperones. After you have signed up there is nothing else you need to do. The various student groups are escorted by chaperones to the event where tickets will be distributed. For any questions regarding activities you can email Katie Meeusen, the Activities Coordinator, at katie@joffreyballetschool.com. Year- Round Trainee Program If you are interested in applying for the Year- Round Trainee Program you may do so at any time while attending the summer intensive. Please see Lena Lauer at the main Joffrey Office on the 5 th floor or email her at lauer@joffreyballetschool.com. Ms. Lauer can answer any of your questions regarding this exciting professional training program, as well as arrange for you to be observed for admission while taking class, attend recruitment sessions with year- round staff and faculty, take tours of the facilities and the year- round dormitory (Grove Street), and facilitate your application for financial aid. Performed to Prokofiev's hauntingly soaring score, this romance is a stage fantasy to enrapture children of all ages, as well as a cornucopia of sly wit and inventive choreography to sate the most devoted of ballet fans. Colorful characters abound, including the gloriously grotesque stepsisters portrayed, as is the tradition, by male dancers who introduce a wonderful note of pantomime comedy. Always on a quest for new forms and featuring an extraordinary repertory of work by some of the world s most forward- thinking choreographers, New York- based company Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet celebrates a decade with a BAM debut. Showcasing a remarkable versatility and a virtuosity that s grounded in ballet, but far more expansive in style Cedar Lake s 16 incredible dancers perform the company s commissioned pieces. The evening features performances of Crystal Pite s stark, breathtaking work Grace Engine, Alexander Ekman s stunningly rhythmic Tuplet, and Jo Strømgren s theatrical romp Necessity, Again. The epitome of Romantic ballet, this heart- rending tale of unrequited love, remorse and forgiveness perfectly fuses music, movement and drama. In this universally acclaimed production, ABT's unrivalled roster of international ballet stars brings Giselle's mystery and ethereal beauty vividly to life.
