You ll find the links to our databases on the top right hand side of our Library webpage. Small Business Resource Center is a comprehensive database that covers all aspects of starting and operating a business, including accounting, finance, human resources, management, marketing, tax, and more. It combines authoritative periodical and reference content to support prospective and current entrepreneurs as well as business students. The interface mapped to four key stages plan, fund, start, and manage will fit your research needs at any point in your business's development. LegalForms provides a comprehensive look at various types of legal documents. This database allows you to create accurate, reliable legal documents. The database offers a robust collection of accessible legal information and forms. Many of the forms and documents are available in Word or Adobe format and can be edited and used to suit users' needs. The database offers a variety of forms covering topics such as: bankruptcy, bill of sale, contracts, divorce, employment, incorporate, LLC, landlord/tenant, living wills, name change, power of attorney, real estate, taxes, and last will. KNITTING GROUP When: May 1 st, 8 th, 15 th, 22 nd & 29 th Time: 6:30-8:15pm Registration: Not Required Whether you've been knitting for decades or days, join this welcoming group of knitters in the Library's Warren Room. Bring your latest project and join the group as they knit by the library fireplace every Tuesday evening. This is a drop in group, registration is not necessary. SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT THE MOVIES Simon and Garfunkel The Concert in Central Park When: Saturday, May 5 th Time: 1:00pm Where: Library Screening Room Join us for the historic September 1981 concert that reunited the famed folk duo after an 11- year break. Simon and Garfunkel performed in front of more than 500,000 people at this free benefit concert in Central Park, New York City. Proceeds from the concert recording went toward the redevelopment and maintenance of Central Park, which had deteriorated due to lack of municipal funding. Simon and Garfunkel's performance was praised by music critics and the album was commercially successful; it peaked at number six on the Billboard 200 album charts. MASSENA ARTISTS ASSOCIATION JURIED ART EXHIBIT When: May 15 th June 2 nd Reception & Awards: May 15 th @ 6:30p.m. The library is proud to host the 2018 Massena Artists Association Annual Juried Art Show. The show will open with a public reception and awards ceremony on May 15 th. This highly respected annual show features the work of artists living within a 100 mile radius of Massena. If you d like to submit your work to the show please bring a maximum of two entries to Massena Public Library on the following dates and times: Saturday, April 28 th 10:00am-4:00pm and Friday, May 4 th 10:00am-4:00pm. The cost to enter your work is $15.00 for members and $20.00 for nonmembers.
BEGINNER QUILTING - SMALL QUILT HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES When: Tuesday, May 1 st, 8 th, 15 th, 22 nd, & 29 th Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm When: Wednesday, May 2 nd, 9 th, 16 th, 23 rd, & 30 th Time: 10:00am - noon Would you like to learn how to quilt? Join local seamstress Cathlene Hartson as she teaches the basics of quilt making. This four session workshop will include demonstrations and hands-on work at Massena Public Library s new quilting lab. You will learn the techniques of quilting and work on your own quilt project. Sessions will include: rotary cutting, machine piecing, sashing, corner stones, borders, batting and backing selections, quilting, binding and labeling. These sessions guarantee to jump start your quilting abilities. SATURDAY AFTERNOON AT THE MOVIES The Greatest Showman When: Saturday, May 19th Time: 1:00pm Where: Library Screening Room Join us for an afternoon at the Barnum and Bailey Circus! This 2017 American musical film stars Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya. The film is inspired by the story of P.T. Barnum s creation of the Barnum & Bailey Circus and the lives of its star attractions. The Greatest Showman, released in December 2017, received praise for the film s performances, music, and production values. At the 75 th Golden Globe Awards, the film received nominations for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and Best Actor Musical or Comedy for Hugh Jackman. The film won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and was nominated for Best Original Song at the 90 th Academy Awards for the song "this Is Me. OPEN SEWING LAB When: Wednesdays Time: 1:00pm-4:30pm When: Saturdays Time: 10:00am - 4:00pm Would you like to work on your sewing or quilting project in the Library s sewing lab? We ve established weekly open lab times to allow you to use the Library s sewing machines and equipment. Please register at the circulation desk and sign a waiver before you use the lab. The library's Sewing Lab is equipped with six heavy duty Singer sewing machines, cutting mats, scissors, rotary cutters, irons & ironing boards - but please bring your own machine if you prefer!
BOOK CLUB EVENING When: May 22 nd Time: 6:30pm -8:00pm Our Library Book Club selection for May is Toms River: A Story of Science and Salvation. This 2013 non-fiction book by American author Dan Fagin focuses on the dumping of industrial pollution by chemical companies into Toms River, New Jersey, beginning in 1952 through the 1980s, and the epidemiological investigations of a cancer cluster that subsequently emerged there. The book won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction, the 2014 Helen Bernstein Book Award for Excellence in Journalism, and the 2014 National Academies Communication Award. If you d like to join the book club please contact the library. LEGO CLUB Date: Saturday, May 12 th Time: 10:00 am Children 6 and up are invited to join us for Lego club. The objects you build will be on display at the library. The library will have all the Legos you need so please do not bring your own. SALT DOUGH HANDPRINT Date: Saturday, May 12 th Time: 2:00 pm Saturday the 12th of May at 2:00pm join in crafting a beautiful handprint keepsake. We will be making salt dough to shape and then make a handprint keepsake to take home. All materials will be provided by the library. This activity is free of charge with no registration required. BATTLE OF THE BOOKS The teams all met April 16th for the local Battle of the Books at the Massena Public Library. Eight teams participated and it was obvious how much every team had studied and practiced. While the competition was intense great sportsmanship was shown by all teams. In third place this year were the Terrific Turtles. In second place were the Roasting Readers. First place went to the 4783 Bookstreet Readers. The 4783 Bookstreet Readers will move on to represent the Massena Public Library at the regional battle, where they will compete with the winners from other libraries around the North Country.
