ON/Standby Button (1.), ON/Standby status led (2.), Arm Button (3.), internal discharge button (4.), trigger button (5.), rmed led (6.) and output control knop (7.) indicated. Push ON/STANDBY button(figure 3: 1.). Green led flashes when the system is on stand by and is solid green when on. The yellow light is lit when the system is armed, that is ready for stimulation (figure 3: 6.). Main menu Figure 4. Main menu [1]. Select stimulation mode. There are three different stimulation modes single, repetitive and session. Select using touch screen (figure 4). 3/7
Single pulse mode (MEP) Figure 5. Single Pulse mode Power menu [1]. Select and adjust stimulation output (figure 5). Select by touch screen and adjust with After you've acquired motor/phosphene threshold you can use the %MT to select a percentage of the motor threshold and the system calculates the protocol intensity automatically. There is a guide for evaluating motor and phosphene thresholds with the laboratory equipment. Enhanced button enables to use power up to 110% (available only with single pulse mode). After selecting procol intensities you can start stimulating by arming the system (figure 3: 3.) or move the power setup to repetetive or session mode by selecting repetetive / session from the touch screen (figure 5). Proceed to Section Stimulation Repetive Mode Figure 6. Repetive mode setup [1]. There are two options to repetitive mode: standard and burst. Repetetive mode display has an illustration of the used protocol (figure 6). Select and adjust parameters with touch screen and output control knop. When ready press Run Session. 4/7
Repetive mode screen opens (figure 7). Proceed to section Stimulation. Figure 7. Repetive mode session [1]. Session Mode Session mode enables to run various simulation protocols with one trigger. Select by touch screen and adjust with turn knop (figure 3). When ready press Run session. Proceed as in single pulse and repetitive mode. 5/7
Stimulation Figure 8. User Interface. Select parameters to adjust by touch screen (1.), output control knop (2.), arm button (3.), trigger button (4.) and internal discharge (5.) button. Use touch screen to select and output control knob to change values (figure 3). The green button arms the system so that TMS pulse can be triggered by foot switch or yellow trigger button. The red System stop button disarms the capasitor internally. The system can only be armed when one of the stimulation modes is selected. When arming the system the user interface askes if you want to disable the safety switch. Disabling the coil switch enables system to be triggered either by foot pedal or trigger-in (stimulus computer) without one or both of the coil safety switches is being pressed (figure 4). If the coil heats up during session (figure 6 & 8: temperature), start Numatic cooling system until coil is cool enough to continue (figure 4). Figure 9. Air Cooled Coil and Numatic cooling system. 6/7
Stimulus Computer Aalto TMS Laboratory The system can be triggered with simulation computer by sending number 2 to LPT1-port. After the experiment Press system stop button from the user interface (figure 8: 3.). Push ON/STANDBY (figure 3: 1.). Turn system off by turning Mains Power Switch and Plus Mains Power Switch (figure 2). References [1] MAGSTIM RAPID², P/N MOP03-EN-01, OPERATING MANUAL, JUNE 2011 7/7
