Convenient and accurate measurements with NO DEAD ZONE The Sidelighter TM module allows the user to perform various optical measurements quickly and easily. If you are experienced in making RF and microwave measurements, you can now make optical measurements. No need to learn a new product. Fiber optic distance to fault The Sidelighter TM module allows the user to measure the distance to fault in an optical cable eliminating the dead zone that renders OTDRs useless in many applications. Faults can be found at any distance along the cable without the use of so-called dead zone eliminators. Fiber optic cable loss The Sidelighter TM module allows the user to determine the loss through an optical cable. Optical connector integrity The Sidelighter TM module allows the user to determine the integrity of optical connector interfaces. Misalignments, air-gaps or incompatible connections are easily determined. Optical component analysis The Sidelighter TM module allows the user to characterize many optical components such as power dividers, couplers, modulators and other passive components. Since the Sidelighter had no dead-zone, connecting an optical component directly to the module allow the user to determine performance parameters such as insertion loss. Measurement examples The Sidelighter TM is a versatile instrument module that allow for various diagnostics and measurements. Examples are provide showing just some of the capabilities of the Sidelighter TM. Finding faults in close proximity The graph to the right shows the location of two events separated by only 15 cm. OTDRs cannot resolve these two events.
