EVENINGS on campus Summer in Malta local festi and celebrations, concerts and festivals, balmy evenings on the beach and walks by the waterfront the Maltese have a joyous nature, karattru ferrieħi. Evenings on Campus adds to all this with a selection of events from local talent with a diverse choice of performances which all provide quality entertainment. We strive to bring to you high-calibre events from top performers and emerging artists alike, many of whom already enjoy international repute. Evenings on Campus is never afraid to experiment and move outside the proverbial box, and this serves as a launch pad for our artists to test innovative ideas or approaches. This gives our audiences original events to look forward to, even when the performers have become regulars on the Evenings on Campus line up. To make Evenings on Campus as accessible as possible, we are venturing off Campus, too. Furthermore, we have kept prices to a bare minimum and some events are even free. A donation to the University s Research Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT) would be welcome. Our artists and performers are enthusiastically looking forward to presenting their evenings to you. We hope to entice you away from the barbecues for a couple of evenings.

Theatre Theatre 8 Il-Properzju tal-professur QUADRANGLE, MSIDA CAMPUS, UNIVERSITY OF MALTA, 2100HRS Sunday 3 August Il-Properzju tal-professur merges reality and fiction in a one-of-a-kind theatre exploration into the reasons why people persist to study the ancient classics to this day. Horatio Caesar Roger Vella is playing himself as the tenacious and formidable Professor of Latin and Greek at the University of Malta. What starts as a simple presentation of a book of translated poetry of the Roman poet Propertius becomes a powerful harangue for the importance of classics in culture and education. Professor Vella will be supported by Lara Borg Vella and by Keith Borg, who is also directing this metatheatrical piece penned by Karm Serracino. The production is being presented by the Malta Classics Association.

Sunday 10 August Theatre 5 Legends from the Middle Ages KSU COMMON ROOM, MSIDA CAMPUS, UNIVERSITY OF MALTA, 1800HRS Malcolm and Joseph from More or Less Theatre are storytellers with a difference. Following the success of their educational series of plays and last year s Manoel Theatre pantomime Red Riding Hood and You Know Who... they return with their latest project a story-telling event aimed at young children. As they take turns to read little-known stories from the past, Joseph and Malcolm act them out and, with the help of the occasional volunteer from the audience, bring them vividly to life to capture the imaginations of young and old alike. Sunday 10 August Science of Wine QUADRANGLE, MSIDA CAMPUS, UNIVERSITY OF MALTA, 2000HRS TalkTheatre Science ENTRANCE BY DONATION Thousands of years ago the Romans spread the production of wine and love of drinking around their vast Empire. By 2016, the global wine market could be worth over $300 billion and such wealth has transformed wine making into a science called oenology. The winemaker Roger Aquilina together with Malta Café Scientifique will talk about the science and art behind fermenting wine and how wine is made nowadays by manipulating well known scientific phenomena. Oenology is studied throughout the world with many wine research colleges pushing the boundary on how cience wine is made and tastes. In Malta, a recently restored wine research station was set up in 1947. The station is now run by the M.S.D.E.C in collaboration with the University of Malta. Wine sponsored by Marsovin can be tasted after the event. J

Concert Thursday 14 August 8 TRAP on Campus QUADRANGLE, MSIDA CAMPUS, UNIVERSITY OF MALTA, 2100HRS Jazz combo, TRAP, will be taking the stage on Campus playing funk, jazz and blues tunes with a modern sound. Warren Galea, who studies electric guitar at the Johann Strauss School of Music, has played and studied abroad. Jes Psaila has played the guitar in a diverse number of styles over the years, with jazz and improvisation being his main musical interests. Alan Portelli, who has been playing bass since 2003, has played with various bands of different musical genres, and is now focusing on jazz. Manuel Pulis is currently studying drums and percussion at the Siena Jazz University and is involved in a number of local and international music projects. azz Saturday 6 September Trailer Trash Stand-Up Comedy CAR PARK OPPOSITE AUBERGE DE CATALUNYA, VALLETTA, 2100HRS - ENTRANCE FREE, RATING: 18+ A night of stand-up comedy brought to you by Revolt!
