The Library has received many new books this spring, thanks to our Common School Funds. I am working with third, fourth and fifth graders for six weeks. We are reviewing Caldecott and Newbery Medals and will be doing some research about the books or the medals using Sirs Discoverer and Teaching books. 2018 Caldecott 2018 Newbery Theater News Theatre class continues their scene work and are getting them ready to share with their classmates. They will also be presented at a showcase later next month which will give parents the opportunity to see what they've been studying. The choreography for their dance to the Queen/David Bowie song "Under Pressure" is nearly complete. It is fun to see them learn about and enjoy music from a different time. Next week the classes will be finding poetry pieces.

Hello Aldo Music Parents! May is just around the corner, which means it is time for our spring concerts. There will be nine ensembles performing next month, six in the first concert, and three in the second. Note that your child may be performing in both concerts. The first of these concerts takes place Thursday, May 17th, and will start at 7:00 pm. This concert will be taking place at the Aldo Leopold School Gymnasium. At this concert, the Fifth Grade Orchestra, Fifth Grade Band, Mixed Choir (Gretchen s Choir), Beginning Band, and Concert Band (Band 1+2) will be performing. The second concert will be on Thursday, May 24th, and will start at 7:00 pm. This concert will be taking place at the Walter Theatre at St. Norbert College. At this concert, the Concert Choir (Ethan s Choir), Middle School Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble will be performing. Students should dress in all black for both concerts, just as the students dressed in December. Small accents of white or another color are acceptable, if necessary. Please don t feel pressured to go out and buy a new outfit. For the first concert, plan on having students arrive not earlier that 6:30 no later than 6:40. They should report to the music room to pick up their instruments and prepare their music. From there we will have different waiting areas clearly marked where they will report. For the second concert, students need to arrive at St. Norbert College, at the Walter Theatre at 4:00 pm the afternoon before the concert. They can be dropped off at the 3rd Street entrance. There will be no bus taking them. Students will be setting up and rehearsing there. There will be time for students to have dinner before the concert. We are in need of someone to video record the concerts. Please contact me if you are willing to help! Please continue to encourage your child to practice on a regular basis to ensure the best performance they can give during these concerts. These students have been working very hard to prepare for these concerts, and we can t wait to share our music with you. It has been a wonderful year at Aldo, and I thank you for all your support! Please let me know if you need any information regarding the concerts or the music program in general. Thank you! Ethan Zick & Gretchen Berger
