B SCHOOL OF DANCE Note: There are a limited number of places in this Diploma which will predominantly be offered to students who do not qualify with a matric exemption or NSC endorsed for degree studies, but who do meet the minimum admission criteria of this course, this includes endorsement for diploma studies. You will be required to be at the School of Dance (Lover s Walk, University of Cape Town, Rondebosch) at 08h30 on Saturday 16 September. 2. Bring your completed Personal Information Sheet (with passport sized photograph), essay, reference letter and two prepared monologues. 3. The audition process will most likely be for the whole day so ensure that you have food and drink with you. 4. Wear comfortable clothing as you will be required to do some kind of movement assessment.
C AUDITION PROCEDURES AND REQUIREMENTS (for Diploma in Theatre and Performance only) In order to be considered for admission to either of the above courses, you will be required to attend an audition & interview. You will also need to submit the Personal Information Sheet [D] and written assignment to the auditioner from the School of Dance at your audition. AUDITION REQUIREMENTS Prepare to perform the following tasks/pieces: Auditions are conducted to assess one s suitability for the training programs on offer as well as one s potential to achieve within the program. The dance audition consists of: 45 minutes of class sessions in three disciplines: contemporary dance technique, improvisation, and either African dance or Classical ballet (including pointe work). a short solo, one minute maximum, preferably choreographed by the candidate. Students may give a short introduction to their piece. Candidates may be invited to stay for an interview Clothing advice: tight fitting but comfortable clothes in which the candidate s physical possibilities are well visible, ballet shoes and socks/ barefeet where applicable, lapa (fabric that wraps around the waist) for the females and loose dancing pants with close fitting tops for males taking the African dance class. WRITTEN REQUIREMENTS to be handed in at the audition ONLY! 1. Submit your Personal Information Sheet D to the auditioner. 2. Typed 2-3 page essay on the following topic and submit it to the auditioner: A vision of my future contribution to the development of South African theatre and dance 3. Submit your Reference Letter to the auditioner. AUDITION OUTCOME After the result of the audition is known, the Programmes Admissions Officer will inform the applicant of the outcome by letter. Please do not phone the Drama Department or the School of Dance to enquire about outcomes, as no outcome can be discussed telephonically.
