TENNESSEE TREBLE HONOR CHOIR Parent/Student Handbook of Procedures and Information 2015-2016 Tiffany Barton Tennessee Treble Honor Choir Chair Charlene Cook Tennessee General Music Chair

Dear Student, Congratulations! You have been selected to participate in a very exciting event, the Tennessee Treble Honor Choir. This choir is made up of the very best fifth and sixth grade singers in the state. It is a big honor to be chosen and you should be very proud. A lot of hard work has to go into preparing for this event. Your teacher believes that you are able and willing to put forth the effort needed to participate in the choir. This handbook will give you all of the information you need to know about the choir. Please read it over with your parent(s) or guardian(s).the final page is a contract for both of you to sign and return to your music teacher. Please read it carefully. If you have any questions, your music teacher would be happy to answer those for you. Please make sure to reserve April 13th and 14th, 2016 for TTHC rehearsals and performance in Nashville. I look forward to hearing your beautiful singing in April. Sincerely, Tiffany Barton TN Treble Honor Choir Chair

What Is TTHC (TENNESSEE TREBLE HONOR CHOIR)? Treble Choir is an auditioned choir made up of 130-150 5th and 6th grade students from schools throughout the state of Tennessee. The Treble Choir performs for the Tennessee Music Education Association held in April. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU MAKE TTHC? Your teacher gives you a student/parent participation handbook. It is important that you read through this with your parents and understand the commitment involved. Sign the permission form promptly and return it to your teacher. If you cannot be at the rehearsal and concert, please let your teacher know immediately. Pay any fees that are required. Talk to your teacher and parents about hotel lodging, transportation, food, money... There is a $60.00 participation fee per student. This pays for your performance polo, your music, your folder, your rehearsal CD, and your participation plaque that you will receive at school after the performance. Make sure you look over the information about the concert attire. Music and downloads of accompaniments will be sent to each school for the teacher to distribute to student participants by the end of January. RESPONSIBILITIES You will receive music to practice at home. Your music teacher will talk to you about rehearsing your music. Ask your teacher about rehearsal times and locations. Each school is assigned specific parts for each piece. Make sure you know what part you will be singing so that you do NOT learn the incorrect part. You may be singing a different part than you usually sing at school. The parts are divided between schools so that the TTHC can achieve a good choral balance. All music should be memorized before the rehearsal on April 13th, 2016.

REHEARSALS Students must attend all the rehearsals and the performance. Be prepared, with music memorized. Registration will begin at 12:00 PM (CST) on Wednesday, April 13th, 2016 at: Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center 2800 Opryland Drive Nashville, TN 37214 (615) 889-1000 Your teacher should register for your school Your teacher will receive your performance polo s and conference badges Rehearsal from 1:00-5:00 PM (CST) The Wednesday afternoon rehearsal will begin at 1:00 pm and end at 5:00 PM (CST) There will be two small breaks during the rehearsals. You should bring your music, a pencil, a bottle of water and two healthy snacks to rehearsal (nothing that will leave a mess). No video games, cell phones, books, toys or other electronic devices should be turned on during rehearsals. Please leave these with your teacher or parent during rehearsals. EXPECTATIONS Remember, you are representing your school in front of people from all over Tennessee. You need to be on your best behavior. Also, please remember that we are guests in the rehearsal hall. Keep the restrooms clean and do not leave trash, food, or other messes anywhere in the facility.

PARENTS Part of the magic of a choral concert is in hearing the music for the first time. By attending rehearsals, this special aspect of the concert may be dimmed. However, we understand that some of you are reluctant to leave your child. You are welcome to stay in the rehearsal hall (if space is available) or in the hallway outside the rehearsal hall. However, the following guidelines MUST be followed if you decide to stay. Absolutely no talking on cell phones! All cell phone functions should be silenced (no ringers, no beeping when pressing buttons). No talking during rehearsals. Younger brothers and sisters should not attend rehearsal. Please arrange for alternate childcare during this time. Please do not do anything that might distract your child during rehearsal. No photography during rehearsal. You may take a photo during break, but not while the students are rehearsing. CHAPERONE GUIDELINES Your teacher will decide how many chaperones are needed for this event. Teachers will ask chaperones to sign an agreement or statement that confirms their understanding that children must be supervised AT ALL TIMES during the rehearsals and performance of the TTHC. No student should be allowed to leave the presence and eye sight of an adult chaperone at any time during the event. This especially includes restroom and snack breaks. Please notify your teacher IN ADVANCE if there are unusual circumstances requiring special accommodation (i.e. wheelchair accessibility, blood sugar issues). PLAQUES, CONCERT PROGRAM, T-SHIRTS Each school will be mailed plaques for each student who participates in the TTHC. The cost of these plaques is included in the student participation fee. PepWear is once again providing commemorative t-shirts. Students may want this t-shirt with their name on the back. These t-shirts will be on-sale before and after at the concert for approximately $20.

Students may invite as many family members as needed. Students will be expected to follow the dress code for the concert. No cell phones or other electronic devices should be turned on during the concert. These electronic signals will interfere with the microphones and recording equipment. No flash photography should be taken during a song. You may use your flash between songs or before and after the concert. Due to copyright laws and ASCAP regulations, no video taping or recording is permitted during the event. There will be licensed copies of the event for sale. Please review proper audience behavior with younger children before the event. Remind them to be quiet during songs and to stay seated as not to interfere with other audience member s enjoyment of the event. If an audience member needs to leave the auditorium for any reason, he or she should wait until a song is over before doing so.

CONCERT ATTIRE The TTHC is an introduction to a formal performance setting for most of its participants. It is important that we instill a feeling of pride and unity among our students. Just like the other All-State groups, we will enforce a strict dress code. Each student will receive a polo shirt to wear during the TTHC Concert. All shirts must be tucked in all the way around. Khaki (tan) slacks or long (to the calf or below) skirts should be worn by all students. Shorts, capri length pants, short skirts, scooters, athletic wear and denim is not acceptable. Hair should be neatly combed out of face and eyes. Girls may wear hair colored barrettes, headbands or pony-tail holders (brown, black, light brown). No bright colored or reflective hair accessories are allowed. No jewelry should be worn. Girls with newly pierced ears may wear small piercing studs only. The only acceptable belt color is brown or black. No perfume or cologne should be worn. All music teachers are considered chaperones for this event. Please listen to their instructions even if it is not your regular teacher. The TTHC staff reserves the right to remove a student from the concert if he/she does not comply with this dress code. CD AND DVD OF PERFORMANCE A professional CD and DVD recording of the TTHC concert will be available for order/ purchase at the event. Due to copyright and ASCAP laws, parents may not record the concert themselves. Detailed information about the recording may be found at www.digitalmemoriestn.net (DVD) and cdrecordings@bellsouth.net (CD). Cell phones will interfere with these recordings (even if they are silenced), so please make sure they are turned off during the concert.
