Yearbook Critique Assignment Positive Attributes 1. MTS Yearbook, A thing I noticed and I thought looked good was having different shapes for pictures. Some squares, some circles, etc. The mix and match of those different shapes gave the page some variety and distinction. It also made the page stand out amongst all the other photos. I would suggest, however, that not too many shapes be used on one page because the page would become unorganized and too busy. 2. MTS Yearbook, I like the idea of a timeline at the end of the yearbook. And in this specific yearbook I especially liked that it was broken down into different categories, such as clothing music and sports. Although it took up several pages, it was a good thing. In the future when students look back on their yearbook they can be taken back to that time they were in high school and what happened in the world. And it will make them feel even more nostalgic than just being able to look at the photos of themselves and their classmates.

3. MTS Yearbook, I know this idea is carried throughout many yearbooks, but it is a classic. I like that in the pictures of the students, the grade 12 s pictures and backgrounds look different. It makes them stand out, which is good because it is a special year for grade 12 s and that is how their pictures should be presented. I would suggest that the background not be a totally different colour than that of the other students. Maybe a different shade of green and a pattern of white; something to keep it Spartan. 4. MTS Yearbook, What I liked about this lunch-a-palooza page is that it was themed. It stood out from other pages because its theme reflected what event that page was about. It was music, specifically rock; themed which made it more interesting. From the font that was used to the types of pictures on the page it was giving off a good vibe. And made an otherwise maybe boring page into something different and eye catching. 5. MTS Yearbook, Our school is full of many different people, and I like how this page displays a way in which students

show their personality; their hair. It also shows how some of the students dress differently on civvies days. I like that this page is completely different, it s not of a club or a team but just of students being themselves. Negative Attributes 1. MTS Yearbook, Something I didn t like about this yearbook was the title given to the page of victory lap students. The title was Spartans forever, which is fitting because they are Spartans forever. But I think that this title would be more fitting for the graduating students. Every student that enters MTS is a Spartan forever. 2. MTS Yearbook, For the social justice club page, a picture of the club was taken outside. It is of very bad

quality. It looks as if the picture was stretched too far and it began to pixelate. The poor quality of the photo takes away from the interest and good layout of the page. I would suggest either taking a better photo or choosing to use that specific photo on a smaller scale. 3. MTS Yearbook, This page is featuring what it took to make the 2007 play happen. But, it took me reading the page to finally realize what it was about. The page was interesting and caught my eye but it lacked a proper title. I would suggest that the title be something like: The Wiz!...Making it happen! It would have worked with the page to catch a person s eye and tell them immediately what the page was about. 4. CCH Yearbook, What I didn t like about this page was the gray outlined book with the word yearbook in it. I m not sure if it was on purpose or just poor editing. Either way it doesn t make sense and looks unprofessional. And it isn t just on the page once, it s there twice. I chalk it up as an unfortunate mistake on an otherwise ok page.

5. STA Yearbook, For the senior semi page, the title was: Shall we Dance? This is a perfectly good title but what took away from it was that other titles brainstormed for the page were listed below. This was unnecessary and would make people question the title that was chosen. If only the title chosen was included, the page would have looked more confident. I would suggest that next time only the chosen title is included.
