Note: The casebook presents the material you need to learn primarily through cases. In contrast, UNDERSTANDING CONTRACTS is a treatise that presents the material in a more descriptive way. In practice, lawyers use treatises to get an overview of the law before they begin their research on a specific topic. Similarly, I suggest that you read about the topic in UNDERSTANDING CONTRACTS before you read the assigned pages in the casebook. Getting a general overview will help you understand the assigned cases: it will help you focus on the key issues, identify the rules, and follow the court s analysis. In the past students who have purchased other supplements have discovered necessary subsections missing and extraneous code sections included. Given the complexity of the material, it is probably worth the extra cost to purchase the recommended supplement! If you purchase a supplement other than the one referenced above, be certain that your book contains the 2001 Revision of Article 1 of the U.C.C., as that is the version in effect in Ohio and the one we will be studying. The 2001 Revision of Article 1 is easily identifiable because it contains a Part 3 and has code sections numbered in the 1-300s (for example, sections 1-301, 1-305, etc.). If a student uses a supplement that is missing one or more of these legal sources, he or she will be responsible for obtaining access to the material. If a student uses a supplement containing superseded law, that student is responsible for obtaining the current law. Books published within the last three years should be sufficiently current.
